Cipro for gonorrhea dosage

Common Questions and Answers about Cipro for gonorrhea dosage

cipro

Avatar m tn Thats why initially I thought it was possibly a UTI, but with the discharge I was leaning more towards an STD. Maybe I didn't take the Cipro long enough. I took the dosage (2 a day) for 10 days (2 packs). I am currently in Ghana and the have yet to find a clinic that does same day STD test. I waited 5 hours to even meet the doctor for my consultation. I just don't want to risk whatever I have getting worse.
Avatar m tn either you have cipro-resistant gonorrhea (cipro should never be used against gonorrhea, it is highly unreliable); or some sort of non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU). You need to return again to your doctor. Or see an STD specialist, if your doctor isn't one. This will be sorted out eventually, but you're going to need additional testing and probably different antibiotics. Please return with a follow-up ocmment about how it all turns out.
Avatar n tn I recently had an ill advised encounter with a girl in Rio de Janeiro during Carnaval. Unfortunately, my condom broke and ever since I've had a near constant tingling at the end of my penis, although I've had no discharge. I assume that I have one of either chlamydia or gonorrhea, but because I can't speak Portuguese nor can I find a Brazilian doctor in my area who speaks English I haven't been able to confirm.
Avatar m tn Am from Africa I have pus coming out of my penis and burning sensation and I was given cipro and doxycap I took it for 2weeks now but I had sex with ma partner at d middle of the dosage now I have finished taking the medicine still got pus coming out of my penis what should I do ...should I go and buy same medicine and continue taking it?
Avatar m tn Thanks Vance. The Dr. called me today and recommended me to a urologist and switched me to cipro saying it really sounds more like a bad UTI and Cipro is stronger than doxycycline. He feels that the chances of me still having an STD are practically zero. I don't think it's herpes because it really isn't uncomfortable to urinate. I do have red inside my meatus/urethra and it is irritated for sure.
Avatar n tn It is unlikely any STD is the cause of the spot on your tonsil, but because of the slim chance of gonorrhea and borderline treatment, you could be tested for it. To be maximally safe, also have an HIV test in a few weeks -- but don't lose a lot of sleep about it in the meantime; almost certainly it will be negative.
Avatar f tn Doxycycline is indicated to treat gonorrhea so a reasonable choice by your doctor to prescribe for you. Were you tested for it or did he just prescribe it? Cipro is also prescribed for gonorrhea. You can ask your doctor why he/she chose one over the other, but both are indicated to treat it.
Avatar n tn Hello, My question is actually for after receiving treatment. About 10-14 days after sex i was experiencing a very subtle completely clear discharge from my penis i called my friend who is a doctor. i told him that i was having a clear discharge that was very subtle and would only occur a couple times a day very lightly. I have read that Chlamydia/Gonorrhea cause more of a thick whitish or yellow discharge and painful urination so i was a bit confused...
Avatar f tn My doc prescribed me 1 g of zithromycin and 500mg of cipro for gonorrhea and chlamydia. I have some strange antibiotic allergies. He explained that cipro is not as effective and we would retest. But how un effective is it and is it safe to be taken together? I just got them today and am nervous because the pharmacist said I should be careful if I have any heart problems...which I don't.
Avatar n tn Hook said that my completing a course of cipro 40-48 hours before my exposure could cause gonorrhea and NGU symptoms to not appear. 3 days after my exposures, I noticed that inside the opening to my urethra (pee hole) was definitely more red than normal. Since then I have experienced mild burning when I first start to urinate (not excruciating burning, and sometimes there is no burning) and the redness areas/spots inside the opening to my urethra are still there.
Avatar n tn So I got diagnosed with gonorrhea and have been taking Cipro for 3 days now. However, the side effects of gonorrhea (pain while urinating, and yellow puss disharge) have only gotten worse. There is more discharge, and the pain has become excrusciating to the point that tears are shed. I want to get rid of this soon, or atleast the pain and drainage. I am afraid that I may have a Cipro-resistant strain seeing that nothing has improved and has only worsen ten-fold.
548956 tn?1215474067 I went to see the doctor right away and he diagnosed gonorrhea. He prescribed me 2 doses of Cipro XR 1000mg to be taken twice a day. That was 4 days ago and I'm still feeling the same symptoms. Yesterday, I went to see my family doctor and he prescribed me 2 more doses of Cipro 750mg along with 7 doses of Doxycycline 100mg to be taken twice a day. So far I'm still having the symptoms.
Avatar m tn I had a discharge on my penis and was prescribed cipro for five days. After taking this for 2 days the discharge stopped and after finishing the course even the pain disappeared. My fear is that the infection might reoccure since im told cipro is not the best treatment for sti.
Avatar n tn He also said that my timeline of A) having the oral exposures 2 days after finishing cipro and B) being tested for gonorrhea 13 days after the finishing of the cipro would definitely yield accurate test results. He mentioned that it was most likely NGU; however, he did a dipstick urine test and he said it was "clean." He wrote me a prescription for doxycycline just in case and told me to take it if the burning continues. Could NGU cause burning without discharge?
Avatar n tn I understand that ceftriaxone is protocol for oral gonorrhea but is it possible that 2g azithromycin or 400mg suprax could also work? Also, would that with cipro or doxy work for treating urethral gonorrhea? Why is there a difference? Also, I have heard that left untreated, oral gonorrhea may go away on its own. Is that true. Thank you for your responses.
Avatar m tn 2-5 days is usual for gonorrhea, 7-10 days for chlamydia. The alternative is some sort of physical or chemical irritation. However, the symptoms came on too late for that; such a cause usually would be apparent immediately, perhaps as long as 6 hours but no more. However, if your regular girlfriend exposed you to something irritating -- spermicide, vaginal deodorant, etc -- perhaps that's the explanation. 2) Yes.
Avatar f tn I went to get checked and the doctor prescribed 1g of azithromycin. That dosage should be enough for chlamydia, but after research, it seems like i might have gonorrhea since it was only oral. Chlamydia seems rare to be transmitted through oral. I also saw on this site that another user was prescribed cipro 500mg and 1g azithromycin. Dr. Hhhhhh said that should be sufficient. I had extra cipro I my house, so i took 500mg along with the azithromycin.
Avatar m tn Just for your information, there are increasing numbers of gonorrhea strains resistent to cipro. And Azithromycin is more effective for treating Chlamydia. You need testing and treatment with the best antibiotic. I think you are having treatment failure with cipro. Please discuss this again with your doctor.
Avatar n tn Went to Planned Parenthood and tested positive for Gonorrhea. I received the dual treatment of ceftriaxone and azithromycin. The symptoms cleared up and I though it was gone but a week water treatment I started to get discharge and burning again. I went to my PCP and he prescribed Cipro but after 2 doses I got tendon pain so stopped taking it. So I’m now thinking the original treatment didn’t kill it completely because it seems I had a really bad case.
Avatar m tn Whether or not that is done, without awaiting your test results, I would recommend you be treated for gonorrhea -- which also routinely includes coverage for chlamydia/NGU as well. In most of the world, the usual treatment would be an injection of ceftriaxone plus oral treatment either with azithromycin (single dose) or doxycyline (7 days). You could also print out this thread as a framework for discussion with your doctor or clinic.
Avatar m tn Out of curiosity, if it was oral gonorrhea, how long would it take after treatment for feel better? I took 1 500 mg tablet of Cipro from my doctor on Wednesday, and I have gotten worse since then...
Avatar n tn s are resistant to Cipro. I have also read that you should treat for both gonorrhea and chlamydia at the same time thus the overkill with the doses. I guess my question is since I did see one small discharge 2 days ago but have seen nothing since, does this mean it is likely cured if I even had it? I will get tested ASAP but was hoping that the discharge gone and no other symptoms present meant I had cleared it up quickly if I had it. Thanks again for your response..
Avatar m tn In the US, I was treated witn Metronidazole 500 mg 2 x day for 7 days (I did not have any tests done), which supposedly is the drug for trichomoniasis, and that this drug did not do anytning to improve the condition; the symptoms are still present. The only difference in symptoms I am observing is sometimes clear discharge, more ofthen though, yellow, thick discharge, which is most observable in the morning, before the urination. Also, there is no odor of any kind.
