Common Questions and Answers about Chest congestion cough sore throat

chest

I had what I thought was a cold for a few days stuffy nose sore throat but now my chest is all congested and its kinda hard to breathe sometimes especially after doing something. I've been coughing for three days straight been taking an expectorant but haven't had too much luck yet... I think i'm running a fever not super high though... and I just feel super tired all the time...Any idea of what I can do to feel better?
For about a year now I have had a cough and chest congestion, my doctor has switched my asthma medications several times thinking that might be the reason for my cough and congestion, she's tried many different types of allery medications, I have been to the pulmonologist, had a chest x-ray and nothing was found, but the cough and congestion I still have.
It just seems so weird to me to have sudden heavy congestion in my throat and chest with no stuffy nose or other symptoms. As for the achy body, I think that's probably just from the violent coughing (so bad it makes me gag). I'm taking Mucinex now and tylenol for pain, and I'm feeling a little better. But how can avoid this in the future, and could this be a sign of something more serious?
Symptoms: Sore throat 2 weeks Runny Nose 6 days Cough 5 days I started a 3 day / twice a day course of Amoxicyllin and decongestant 4 days ago. My symptoms have improved, but I still have a cough & sore throat & minor congestion. I have been exposed to Tuberculosis this month and it has me concerned. Is TB typically a dry or wet cough? Does it involve runny nose / congestion? Does it affect the throat? Do I need to just give this more time?
I had Anterior Cervical discectomy and fusion C-3/4. 2 weeks ago. Throat was sore and it was hard to talk and swallow solids. 3 days after I got , what I thought was a simple cold with nasal congestion and low grade fever lasting couple of days. The nasal discharge has been copious and clear. My concern is the severe congested cough that has developed and lasting over a week/ my nasal discharge has lessoned and is still clear or white.
So the last two days I've had a sore throat and it feels like I could cough something up, but when I cough nothing comes out. I'm just wondering if there is anything I can take that is safe for baby that can help with whatever it is that I have? Idk if its strep...it kind of hurts to swallow but its not too bad. I'm really hoping it's just a chest cold. But any suggestions on things that are safe to take?
The congestion and sneezing have left, however, a sore throat and coughing persists. When I cough, I cough up clear and opaque phlegm. I tried taking Claratin and that seems to help a little. But I'm starting to think that this is beyond allergies and might be a bacterial infection?
I had protected sex 1 month ago and about a week and a half later I ended up with a minor cold (minor sore throat, chest and nasal congestion and productive cough and no temperature). The cold lasted about a week and a day. Around 3 days after the cold symptoms diminished I got a sore throat again, only very minor and in one general spot near my right tonsil and slight tenderness under my right ear. As stated the soreness is minor but has lasted nearly 3 weeks now.
10 days ago I began to feel sick. 8 days ago I had sore throat, congestion, minor headache, body aches and cough. I spent 4 days in bed with most of same symptoms. The constants were sore throat and congestion. No fever. Chills once for a short period. During this time I was expelling a little phlegm both through throat and nose, mostly in am when awakening and in the shower. I went to work after 4th day. Felt fair during day, nights were usually bad.
I have no fever, but have some nasal congestion as well as some tightness in my chest. I have been using throat lozenges and taking Mucinex DM along with some ibuprofen to cut down on some of the throat pain. This is really starting to concern me - maybe it is just post-nasal drip, as my tonsils in the back of my throat are very red. I had an HIV/HEP test 3 weeks ago for work and that was negative - so I am wondering what this could be?
I had a bad 3 day cold with no fever suprisingly, slight sore throat, bad congestion, ache. i am 7 weeks pregnant. I developed this barking seal sounding cough feels like i need to cough something up but sounds dry when i cough. My throat is tight and now starting to irritate and tingle. Everytime i cough i gag...but from being pregnant my gag reflexes are sensative. It doesnt seem likes its from my chest, i am still congested. i have never had this before.
i have had a cough for quite some time, i feel like im strangling on the phlem in my throat..
My symptoms initially began as a cold with chest congestion, extreme throat pain, fatigue, and a fever for the first two days. Almost all of those symptoms went away within one week and now I'm left with the sore throat. I also have post nasal drip so I'm wondering if this is causing the pain. The pain seems to get worse in the evening or in cold temperatures. It hurts to talk also. No one that has been around me has gotten a sore throat so it makes me feel like it is not strep throat.
The third day, some nasal congestion, cough, sore throat, sometimes phlem. Fourth day, nasal congestion, body aches (possibly from the coughing), occasional sneezing, more phlem (light to dark yellow) -- and hard to cough up, fever of 100.4. Fifth day, I am still congested, feel like the phlem is just building in my chest and can't get it out. NO fever, however I am on cold medicine--I have tried several over-the-counters.
It could be allergies I too have a dry cough for many weeks, scratchy throat, sore itchy eyes.Fatigue, all tests are normal ..I think its environmental as I do know each day in CA they are aerial spraying , you can ask for a heavy metal test to see if it could be something like that ..

i have a deep cough, wheezing in my chest, sore throat, and i can barely speak. congestion, runny nose. can you help me out, the dr i went to basically said allergies but since going i have gotten worse and the meds dont seem to help.
Started with classic bronchitis symptome... sore throat, nasal congestion - yellow mucus, hoarse voice, frequent dry cough-note:about the same time I cleaned my mothers basement and porch which was FULL of dust and very damp and nasty. I spent about an hour down there. Saw my GP the day I got back and he said there was a virus going around. Two days later I woke up in the middle of the night with a deep whining-wheezing-gurgling sound in my chest.
I'll try to keep it as simple as possible. About 4 weeks ago I began to have a dry, unproductive cough that resulted in a dry/sore throat, as well as a hoarse voice. About 3 days into it, the cough became VERY productive. After about 2 full weeks, the coughing become MUCH LESS FREQUENT, but still there. In fact, I STILL have a cough (not NEAR as bad as before....but I still do have to cough). NOW (week #4) when I cough, it is OFTEN dry, but SOMETIMES productive.

I have been suffering from a feeling of pghlem in my chest and throat for 2 months now, I went to A&E because it felt like i had something stuck in my throat,i was giving penicillin for a rasp in my chest after being sounded,i then got another course from the doctor as i didnt feel any better and still had the sensation of mucus in my throat, i just cant shift it no matter how hard i try,i just keep gettin a sore throat from all the trying, i was asked if i could swallow properly which i hav
About 3 days after that I started getting a tightness in my chest and congestion, but not really a sore throat. The day after I had sex with my TS friend I french kissed a woman friend. My woman friend is now complaining of a sore throat 4 days after I kissed her. Is it possible I got throat gonorrhea from my TS friend and gave it to my woman friend by kissing her? Based on everything I've read, I think I'm over reacting and this is probably a virus that will run it's course.
Yep right there with ya...lots if decaf lemon tea with honey...a spoonful of honey on its own helps soothe your throat..doesn't last long but feels nice at the time. Children's liquid Tylenol helps soothe the throat too. I take 15ml and then one extra strength tablet. I was told that other than saline sinus rinse I wasn't allowed to take anything for congestion. But everyone seems to hear different things depending on your doctor. If coughing gets really bad puffers can be taken.
There's no soreness in my throat, no dryness - except that one spot in the back of my throat - and no obstruction, nor is there any chest congestion. My wellness clinic PA thinks it's allergies, but antihistamines have had no effect. No amount of coughing satisfies the tickling feeling, it's constant. But here's the weird part: it only manifests when I lie down (anything lower than 50-55 degrees). It's moderately alleviated by sore throat drops, but only for a short time.
For the last two weeks I have been having this really bad cough. It hurts in my chest when I cough and feels almost like I am trying to cough up a lung. And now my nose is starting to be runny and there is a lot of mucus that is now draining into my throat making it feel worse, and really sore. Is there any way to get rid of it?
The persistent cough, along with the possible presence of lingering congestion, could be causing your upper airways and throat to be inflamed and sore. Also, there could be a possibility of a hiatal hernia. Frequent or hard coughing is a risk factor. I hope that you will consider seeing a physician. Good luck.
My nose is runny while my sinuses are congested. My chest doesn't seem very congested, though - I have a dry cough from a dry throat which I"m trying to keep well moisturized while I drink orange juice and water. I've been taking off completely from work - no outdoor excursions except a brief one - and I'm avoiding other people, bundling up warmly, taking 2 hot showers a day (drying my hair or not getting it wet, so I stay warm), and trying to sleep as much as possible.
