I quit smoking using Chantix as well. I am only 1 month non-smoking. I only took Chantix for 9 days as on the 9th day I found out i was pregnant. So I was non smoking and pregnant, to only two weeks later miscarry. I am not too sure if its from the hormones, or from the symptoms of not smoking, but i was extremely irritable, it was almost to the point that everything i that came out of my mouth was snappy. I developed insomnia right from the get go from Chantix.
ve been smoke free for over a year without it. I know a lot of peole get side effects from chantix but not much for me. I took it steadily for about 9 month and stopped about 5-6 weeks ago. I started having cravings again and broke down and paid for a re fill. That first pill worked fast and really helped with any cravings. I will take it as needed for however long and try to always have some on hand.
Have you tried Chantix? If you have ins go to your doctor and ask him for chantix. It's a rx designed to block the nicotine receptors. You smoke while taking the med the first week and then you stop smoking, but continue the medicine. After the first week you will notice the cravings are mental but not so much physical. You can google "chantix" and you can learn more about it. I am 30 and have smoking since 12, it's the hardest habit to break.
Congrats to both. I too am smoke free, about 12 weeks now. Its been a really rough road, I wasnt one of the lucky ones. Hubby was. Off the board I've heard a lot of complaints about people not being able to take the side effects of taking the drug. Nothing about withdrawl from the drug.
that was me 4 months and 1 week ago! I was hooked and no one could reason with me and I didn't want to quit, or so I thought. I was absolutely to weak to do it and then I heard about Chantix. (read my post titled "everyone") My quit happened because I doubted that there was anything on the market that could help me and here was something that said they were 44% successful. I thought for sure that I was in that 56% that couldn't and so I took them.
Most people take it for about a month and then don't need it anymore. There is no chantix fix. It doesn't give you anything it just cuts cravings .
I googled chantix and sore breasts and found these comments, so I should add my thoughts since someone else might want to know too! This is my second time on Chantix. The first time was fine. This time, though, my breasts have been swollen and tender for almost a month! I'm definitely not pregnant, so this is the only 'different' thing I've been doing (taking the Chantix). I am relieved to find out I'm not the only one.
I will tell myself if i clean the kitchen then i can have a smoke, or if i got to get up and make dinner then i can reward myself with a smoke. my DR, is putting me on chantix does it work or am i waisting my money?
I used Chantix twice several years ago. The first time I quit for 3 months. The second time I felt really sick. I still don't know if it was thyroid or the Chantix.
I am disappointed that a doctor would not be very supportive. Especially with a nicotine addiction - it was almost like giving me permission to smoke!

I'm one year clean next month - was on sub. for 6 weeks to detox. I felt fine on Chantix - though I've since heard reports of folks with the problems you mentioned. Fortunately I haven't relapsed on drugs - unfortunately, well, the smoking....
I would not think that Chantix would affect your thyroid, but everyone is different. Are you still taking Chantix? I am assuming not. ALso, I feel compelled to mention that I too had the symptoms you had, except for the trouble breathing, and my vitamin D level was extremely deficient. You may want to get that checked. I am on Effexor and started Chantix 5 days ago. For the first 2 days I was throwing up but kept taking it hoping it was just a stomach bug. Days 3 and 4 I cried all day and on day 5, I feel I'm crawling out of my skin and I haven't slept in 3 nights due to crazy dreams that wake me up and I can't get back to sleep. I have not been able to find any link or interactions between the 2 meds though.
I started having problems in Oct 2008 after taking Chantix for about a month. I quit taking the meds because I had a really bad reaction to it. I was angry, very emotional and thought of suicide. I have never been this way before and didn't like so I stopped the med. About a month later I had an episode where I was having slurred speech (alot) and I would drive to work and then sit there and think "how did I get here". I couldnt remember driving. This lasted or about a month.
Kathy, the thought of Chantix being the reason actually crossed my mind the first time, but I kind of ruled that out because I smoked far longer on it than I was supposed to (six weeks before quitting :-( ugh) and had no problems at all. This just started after I finally stopped kidding myself and threw them down. Thanks for the input and I will definately repost and let you know the result.
