I'm quite interested in the association between diabetes and HCV. However, all the research seems to be with type 2 diabetes, either 'caused' by HCV treatment or in association with HCV chronic infection.
I wonder how many people there are who have HCV and were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes as adults... I was diagnosed with type 1 in my early 20s.

I have recently started to feed my (16 year-old) cat a high protein diet (Orijen), devoid of all carbs, hoping to stay away from diabetes that way. Now the vet tells me that's a bad idea because a high protein level in food (anything over 40%) leads to the production of urea and actually harms the cat's kidneys. I am very confused. My cat is healthy, but which is the right food composition to keep it that way?

Gallstones are not unusual with liver disease, as your doc says. Not the hottest topic in hep c research, but the association between hcv and gallstones has been around a while. Certainly not everyone with hep c gets gallstones, and though cause and effect has not yet been proven, most hepas nowadays do think there is a link:

My understanding is that an HBV/diabetes mellitus connection or association was not found whereas an association with HCV and diabetes was found. It's HCV that seems to be the factor according to this article - if I am reading it right.
