Avatar f tn I am 18 years old, there is no female pattern baldness in my family, my scalp hurt after the brain surgery and it gradually has become worse where I have to keep poring cold water over my head. I have medium size bumps that have formed on my head.
Avatar n tn Culture of the discharge and culture of the of skin scrapings from the scalp may help ascertain the diagnosis. Hair loss is due to scalp conditions like tinea capitis, discoid lupus and seborrheic dermatitis. You may need oral antifungals or antibiotics for this. Treating the underlying scalp condition will help revert the hair loss.
Avatar f tn I was have a lot of hair fall, the stylist was commenting on it always(every 4 weeks I was there for two more years). My hair hurt to move it, then itching an lymph notes started swelling and bumps on my head(and the lymph notes on top of my head). Last year I thought it might be the hair color. The dermatologist did not think so, suggested stop using so many hair products. Did not color for several months, lots of gray hair starting to come back in...even little short ones...
Avatar m tn Stress, weight loss are two of the common causes of unexplained weight loss. The causes of itching and hair loss could be any inflammatory disease, psoriasis, alopecia areata etc.An allergy to the lotions or creams used on the scalp can also cause these symptoms. Other causes of hair loss like hypothyroidism, anemia and medical diseases also need to be ruled out. Seek the opinion of a dermatologist. An external examination is essential for diagnosis. Take care and regards!
Avatar n tn I just got told by my hair dresser that I have patches of hair loss. I have 4 in all. My scalp is itchy and I noticed lately I am tired more than normal. Avatar m tn Dear, I have had scalp problems for a couple of years now which in my opinion caused hair loss. I have acne & bumps all over my scalp with different sizes, they dissappear and appear again. My family members tells me that my scalp somehow looks red. I have difficulties to exercise because when I sweat my head itches a lot. I have been to several dermatologists who prescribed roacutane of 10mg which I took for one year, but didn't really help instead I got some liver problems.
Avatar m tn use Renova at night and sulfa lotion in day for face bumps and no more bumps on scalp...or very few. I use a cortisone shampoo which has stopped the itching. Be glad your hair grows back. The only way to really find out what is going on is to see a dermatologist. Good luck.
Avatar n tn The symptoms of Ringworm or Tinea Capitis include a dry itchy scalp, scaling, crusting, inflamed nodules, hair loss and tender enlarged lymph nodes on the neck. My sincere advice is to get it evaluated from a dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist.
Avatar f tn What causes a red, itchy pimple-like rash on scalp with subsequent hair loss? I have been treated with Ketokonazole shampoo, steroid liquid applied to scalp, chemical- and fragrance-free shampoo and conditioner (Free & Clear), stopped coloring my hair, etc. and so far nothing has taken this away. I am now losing my hair! Can anyone help me?
Avatar f tn My hair has been falling out for 4 years and I also have scalp pain. It feels like someone has been pulling my hair Out on the occipital area. The pain comes and goes. I have had a biopsy by a dermatologist, which was inconclusive. I had an MRI, that was normal. Does anyone know who I should see or what to do? All labs normal!
Avatar f tn My husband has nodules on his scalp as well. Currently he has three. One is large and has become red, painful, and hair has stopped growin on this part of his scalp. The second is smaller, with the same symptoms, and the third is quite smaller and hasn't become red or caused hair loss yet. He's 26 years old. We don't currently have health insurance, but should be getting it in the next three months. I'm just worried that we need to have these things looked at sooner than that.

Avatar f tn My dermatologist prescribed steroids and the rash went down, but the itchy scalp and flaking and hair loss are still going on - three weeks later. I want to know if this is hormonal and stress-related (my job is requiring me to work 12-hour days and is a stressful PR position AND I work a job on the weekends because my PR job doesnt pay what I owe in student loans) - this on top of having to deal with becoming pregnant (unplanned) and then losing that pregnancy.

Avatar n tn Thank you for taking your time off to answer my long question! The information you gave me was very useful, and I have also checked the link you sent. I think you are right about my condition being seborrhoeic dermatitis, instead of it is ‘STRESS’ like my doctor has been telling me for the past two years.
Avatar m tn Folliculitis is a likely differential as you have mentioned that the hair follicles appeared to be involved. Folliculitis may present with red bumps involving the hair follicles. The bumps may have yellowish or whitish centers. They can be itchy and an overlying fungal infection need to be ruled out here. Keratosis pilaris is due to build up and blockage of keratin plugs within the hair follicles. The hair follicles may appear to have whitish elevated plugs near the base of the hair shaft.
Avatar f tn I started getting hard bumps on my scalp several years ago. The feel like really hard scabs and are painful to the touch. They are about the circumfrence of the tip of my index finger. I have picked the scab off before and it leaves a shallow hole in my scalp, but doesn't really bleed. There is some sort of clear liquid that does not smell. When the skin grows back I have a small bald spot for a bit until my hair grows back.
Avatar f tn I check photos and symptoms of syphilis regarding hair lost, most of the hair loss are on the main head on top of the scalp not the side burn area. And I also check the photos as well, and I can't seemed to find a match on the bump like thingy on my genital area. I went to the clinic and did a full std test, all came back negative. My question is could the clinic have missed something? Should I go back and get test again.
Avatar n tn male I have been getting my hair cuts close to the scalp for several years. Until now, I never had these red bumps on the back of my scalp where i get close haircuts. I go to a professional barber who uses clean equipment. These red bumps are not itchy and dont have any pus. The bumps look like acne with no pus. I wash my hair daily. I havent used any new products. Are these red bumps due to scalp folliculitis? What is it? Is there any treatment? I like to keep my hair short(military).
