Blood sugar test units

Common Questions and Answers about Blood sugar test units

Avatar m tn Take your insulin, then eat your dinner, then test your blood sugar 2 hours after starting to eat dinner. Your blood sugar should ideally not be higher than 40 units above your predinner number (ie. 140). Don't eat anything further (unless you go low early) and then test again at 3 and 5 hours. If you are low by 5 hours you will need to take a lower dose of insulin the next evening - reduce by say 2 units.
Avatar n tn I then eat 45 g of carbs and inject 3 units of insulin before the meal. Test 2 hours after starting to eat and my blood sugar is 140 (my target is < 120 after eating). This tells me that the insulin was not enough. Next time I eat 45 g of carbs I will try 4 units of insulin). I actually finally worked out that I need 1 unit of insulin for about 10 g of carbs. It also helps to restrict carbs.
Avatar f tn Anyways, been feeling off lately, so went to take a blood test. Doc said i have viral infection in my liver and also high cholesterol. Please see below for my concerns- I'm not sure what all my results mean, and was hoping could get a second opinion: -my white cell count is lower at 3.9 (normal is 4-11), and so is my lymphocytes is at 1.07 (normal is 1.5-4)- is this something to be worried about? -total protein is higher than normal at 8.4 (normal is 6.0-8.
Avatar n tn The thing about the 1h test is your system is bombarded with an abnormally large amount of sugar in a short time and the blood test will measure your response to it - this is quite different from measuring your levels throughout the day which may be more "normal" because your sugar intake could have been at a relatively low level. In essence, testing your levels throughout the day is not necessarily a good indicator of whether you have GD or not.
Avatar m tn am blood sugar , inject time ,brkfast time, pm blood sugar[prior to dinner] , inject time and dinner time. One thing thats new : I used to be able to tell or feel when my blood sugar was low , and I would take Glocuse ! . . .Now I can no longer tell . . If I feel different sweaty, dizzy , shaky or just not comfortable . . I will test my blood sugar and act appropriately. Doc will schedule me for a Diabetes class to revisit the basics of Diabetes care.
Avatar f tn The effects of too much or too little will mean a smaller or larger baby. It is hard but writing my meals out along with checking my blood sugar helps much. I have cut out yogurt because it spikes my glucose levels too high.
Avatar m tn My mother, aged 79 years, a hyperintensive and a diabetic for several years, recently underwent a CABG surgery for a Triple Vessel Disease on July 13, 2010 and was discharged from hospital on July 21, 2010. She is recovering, yet her blood sugar levels continue to be high and is being administered Novomix 30 ( 20 units before before breakfast and 10 units before lunch). Prior to surgery, she was taking Amaryl 1mg tablets once a day.
Avatar n tn I found that I would become high after dinner so I would take more Humalog, however, this would make me crave sugar and sweets, it would drop my blood sugar levels, and it seemed like I was eating more just to make sure that I was safe...then I would spike from the sugar and have to start all over again with more insulin. I found that it made it very difficult to maintain my weight despite exercising regularly which was a huge source of frustration for me.
Avatar f tn Novorapid is a bolus, or fast acting insulin it is dosed to correct high blood sugar levels (correction dosing) and to cover meals (dosed based on amount of carbs and protein eaten in any single meal). They can be taken at the same time, though not in the same syringe. For example, your partner takes his usual daily dose of tresiba at 7 am. However, his blood sugar is 150 and he wants it to be 80.
Avatar f tn The best mesure of how your blood sugar is doing is a test called a Hemoglobin A1C. This test gives your average blood sugar over the last three months. Your doctor should run the test every three months. I'll bet based on what your takeing that it's a lot better than you think. There is a home kit for this test but I don't recomend it because it's very complicated. THe goal is to have an A1C under 7. Talk to your doctor about it. Best of luck.
961466 tn?1247550382 This is called a correction shot and the correct dose (correction factor) needs to be figured out in order to know how many units will drop her blood sugar by how far. It is not a surprise that she is experiencing both highs and lows frequently if she is managing her diabetes this way. You might want to find out WHY she doesn't want to monitor her health. Is she thinking that if she ignores it, it will go away?
Avatar f tn Hello I am new to novolin My Dr has me on 15 units twice a day after being on lantus for 1 year and it just did not work at all for me under 29 units was not enough and over 20 units bottomed my sugar out My question is and this also did this when i was on lantus is it normal after injecting yourself with insulin that my blood sugar spikes up I am talking it can be 150 and after the injection it will jump up to 300 with in 3 hours is this normal or is it just me I know I am not making sense
Avatar f tn s sugar is not consistent, he or she needs to see their health care provider for a thorough check up. There is a blood test (HgbA1C) which will show his/her blood sugar levels for the past 3 months and will indicate to the doctor how well controlled your friend's diabetes is.
Avatar m tn I will get my all X-rays,P.Lung test, other blood test tomorrow.I am now very much lethargic and can not do my routine work with ease.I used only little Law salt only. What care should be taken to make my side effect comfortable.I drink lots of water. Please advise. Regards.
Avatar n tn It makes a BIG difference when you test your blood sugar [glucose]. Not knowing your country of residence, the following are testing times with US measurement units. The UK and other countries, like Canada, require conversion from mg/dl to mmol/l. ● Fasting - first thing in morning before eating or drinking anything except water.
Avatar n tn I do hope your daily insulin triation is by doctors instructions, otherwise you may develop hypoglycemia. The maximum dose of Levimir flex pen is 60 units! Go see your Endo as medication and an education on lifestyle changes are in order.
Avatar n tn my fathers blood sugar is 224 how many units of levemir flexpen do i give him his Dr put him on a sliding scale. i dont know what the dosage is ???? i give him humalog the scale is 200 to 250/ 5 units and so on. Is there a guideline of units for levemir ?
Avatar n tn Until you get used to it, test the blood sugar before injecting/eating and every hour for the next three hours. You will then be able to see exactly what is going on. The obejective needs to be to get the blood sugar into the target raange before meals and to inject only enough insulin to get it back down there after 2 hours. Because of his medical history and normal weight, your husband may need to be treated more like a Type 1.
Avatar f tn s the thing with diabetic pregnancy. The insulin resistance keeps increasing (so blood sugar keeps getting harder to control) as the pregnancy progresses. You will need to increase your meal time insulin, if you are going high. Sprite is pure sugar; you need to avoid all soft drinks and sugars. Controlling how much carb you eat / Lower carb is really important during pregnancy to be able to control how high your sugars go.
Avatar n tn The Symogi effect is the tendency of the blood sugar to rise as a result of low blood sugar. Low blood sugar can trigger release of hormones such as glucagon that raise blood sugar. The liver would normally respond to declining blood sugar by increasing glycogenolysis, as I discussed above. But insulin inhibits glycogenolysis, and as you may have observed, low blood sugar occurs most often near an insulin peak.
Avatar m tn t see how you could have been a type I diabetic. Your after eating blood sugar is not high. Your fasting blood sugar is a little high. What does your doctor say? Are you sure you weren't a type II diabetic?
Avatar m tn To my surprise it was 264. I am on 25 units of Glargine, 10 mg glipazide, which I take before bedtime. Why would my level be so high?????
