Avatar f tn take an OTC antihistamine and use a nasal spray like Ocean Saline Spray. Do not mix antihistamines though such as an oral antihistamine and spray. Ocean Spray does not have an antihistamine and will simply dry you out and is safe to use with an antihistamine.
Avatar n tn I honestly have zero experience with nasal spray. However I know someone who was addicted to it. She went cold turkey off of it and said it was mostly mental. BUT afterwards her doctor said that it was very dangerous for her to do that and he was quite upset with her for not coming to him. Are you getting it via doctor's care? You should really discuss with the doctor or any doctor before quitting cold turkey.. Just to be safe and to make sure its ok to just stop using it.

Avatar m tn I've used an OTC nasal spray but not a prescription one. Benadryl makes me sleepy so I take it at night before bed. I'm pretty sensitive to antihistamines so one dose can keep my allergies at bay the whole next day too.
Avatar f tn You can try a neti pot every day, it helps my sinuses stay cleared out. Saline spray also helps. There are some meds that some docs say are OK OTC but not every doc agrees so you'd need to ask your own.

Avatar f tn Tylenol, Tylenol extra strength- NO ASPRIN OR IBUPROFEN Go in for a fever over 101. For Bad cough: Robitussin DM cough syrup For sore throat: OTC throat lozenges that do NOT have menthol as an ingredient. Also try guaragling salt water. Headaches: tylenol, hot or cold compress. Occasional caffeine also helps with migraines. Sinus Infection: Must go into your office to be treated Flu: increase liquids, more rest. tylenol for aches, fever, and headaches.
Avatar m tn In the meantime you could try to sleep on your side as this keeps the airways patent. If any nasal blocks try to keep them patent with OTC nasal decongestants. Aim for optimum weight with exercises or long walks and walk your way to sleeping well. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn It can also be treated using an antihistamine nasal spray or saline nasal sprays. Symptoms can also be relieved by using a nasal spray that contains corticosteroids. But due to their side effects,it is better to use saline nasal sprays. The golden rule for chronic stuffy nose is steam inhalation. Inhaling steam from a bowl of hot (but not boiling water) may help to soften, and loosen, the build up of mucus in your nose.
Avatar f tn My treatment plan includes the usual .... steam, nasal irrigation, nasal gels, nasal oils, humidifiers, tons of water and tea, no dairy and ocassionally an antibiotic and oral steroids. This is how I’ve managed to keep things under control. Had septoplasty and turbinate reduction about 17 years ago and maybe there was some relief but really not sure (surgery screwed up my septum, now ive got a septal spur and small hole in septum....in other words, the doc screwed it up).
Avatar f tn I was wondering if any of you on the site who have Hep C, who have ever had experience with using a prescription allergy medicine that is a nasal spray? I had taken Flonase in the past, never really cared for the backwash it has. But, I've been seeing an allergist because my allergies have really bothered me this year. He prescribed a medicine that is a nasal spray called Astelin.
Avatar f tn For starts, have you tried an OTC nasal spray or an oral antihistamine?
Avatar n tn any suggestions or help? Why can i not use the OTC nasal sprays for more than 3 days? what can i do to remedy the underlying problem & get back to normal breathing? thank you in advance!
Avatar f tn Hi, I use Nasacort, which is a steroid nasal spray, but I'm not always good at using it.
Avatar f tn You mentioned dryness so you know a little moisture is needed. You will probably get a lot until your system gets over the Afrin. Do not use any other nasal spray. If your nose starts running excessively move to an OTC non-drowsy tablet for nasal congestion and take only one tablet a day.
Avatar f tn excedrin contains caffeine, and stopping it will cause significant headaches from caffeine withdrawal; stopping nasal spray will cause a few days of intense nasal congestion, etc. I would consider the the situation to represent an anxiety disorder; perhaps OCD or perhaps behavior related to an 'organic' disorder such as early dementia. She needs help-- a psychiatry appointment would the place to start, if you can get her to go to one.
Avatar n tn Obtain needed out-of-door exercise, sunbaths, and swimming. It can also be treated using an antihistamine nasal spray. Antihistamine like benadryl works by blocking your immune system's response to the allergen. Symptoms can also be relieved by using a nasal spray that contains corticosteroids. Corticosteroids work by helping to reduce inflammation and congestion.
Avatar n tn Plenty to drink, water, Juices , a nasal spray can help keep the nose decongested ,if the throat is sore there are OTC meds to give the child , if theres a fever maybe good to let the Doctor listen to his chest especially with a cough. let nature take its course ..Hope he /she is better soon .
Avatar m tn You may benefit from seeing a doctor and getting a nasal steroid spray and nasal antihistamine spray. Those really help my nasal allergy symptoms. Also, there is an OTC nasal spray here called NasalCrom. It contains cromolyn which is a mast cell stabilizer. Basically it stops the allergic reaction at the source, the nose. It has to be used every four hours though. My personal experience is that I would feel better on the island - fewer pollens to contend with.
Avatar f tn Yes it it safe I had a cold and the doctors still recommend nasal spray for me!
Avatar f tn The only thing that allows me to breathe is a nasal spray equivalent to afrin. I used to be addicted yrs ago but now I only use it in dire emergency....like before eating or bed because I can't sleep if I can't breathe through my nose. In the past 3 days I've only used it at night and a couple other times during the day when it was really bad! I try to hold off as long as possible without using it. And I only use 1 or 2 sprays and usually only in 1 nostril.
Avatar f tn If it's,allergies you could take benadryl. That helps me when im sick and stuffy.
