I took it for 35 days, and things were well, more or less. Back in port, went to resupply on avelox, they didnt have it, doc put me on cipro/trinidazole combo. Now a week later and the pain is back in my urethra.
Could this be episodes of Herpetic urethritis? I think the avelox worked, but perhaps it was just a good month? The doc in port thought prostatitis (but he was also DDx-ing with wikipedia, i dont know if i trust it)
please help!
Thanks for the info. I was on Avelox for 14-day and I have not had discharge for over 7 weeks now. And the MG DNA test from urine is also negative.
However, I have symptome of chronic prostatitis, but doctors are not seeing any actual infections, and told me I should not be on AB.
Initially I had doxy for 3 weeks, but the UTI just came back after 2 weeks. I think a lot of people are as desperate as I am.
Can more people share their experience or methods to alleviate the symptoms?
Had unprotected oral (only) sex exposure (giving and recvg) 2 months ago. Took 8 days of 400mg Avelox for sinus infection post exposure. Saw Urologist appx 11 days after event with urgency / frequency to urinate, fullness in abdomen, penile discomfort consistent with having to urinate badly. No dischearge and no burning when urinating. Urine sample was clear, rectal prostate exam with secretions showed bacteria in prostate. Diagnosed with prostatitis. I am not sure what (clear) meant?
pushed it all the way in to get max. out of it. Again, it came back Neg. for MG. Then Dr. suggested that it may be prostatitis. Week later I had prostate secretion analysis. At the same time MG was tested again. It was tested from second urine to be sure it is not in my prostate. MG was again negative, but I was diagnosed with prostatitis. Even though it was bad news, I was glad that eventually the cause of my problems was found. I got antibiotic treatment (12 days Unasyn, 15 days Nolicin).

Your symptoms are nonspecific -- i.e. they don't point strongly to any particular problem. The only STD related condition that could cause testicular pain and swelling is epididymitis (testicular infection), and the only STDs known to cause it are chlamydia and gonorrhea. With those tests being negative, sexually acquried epididymitis has been definitively ruled out. Further, real epididymitis is a much more dramatic, inflamed condition than you have described.

From then to now I’ve been on Avelox(400mg/ for a total of 4 weeks) w/ only until now seeing min. improvement. Urologist did DRE=soft and bit boggy. Cystoscopy=inflamed prost. CATscan..ok
Wife took 10Avelox. Still have inflamed testes, general pain, very little discomfort after urination, yellowish semen, poking/itchy anus feeling, but no more lowr back pain. Standing aggravates and laying down/sitting eases pain. Ur and Dr. said stop AB and both of us return 3wks for tests.
it is exceedingly unlikely that herpes explains your symptoms, which are far more typical for recurrent/persistent nongonococcal urethritis (NGU), prostatitis, and/or the male chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS).
Although herpetic urethritis certainly occurs, usually the initial symptoms are quite a bit more severe than you describe. And although recurrent herpetic urethritis is possible as well, those symptoms also would be more severe.
I have been prescribed a dose pack of Prednisone for 6 days and plan on going to the Orthopaedic doctor for consult. I have only been walking and trying to take it easy. Just normal house stuff. No heavy lifting or exercising until I get a recommendation. Have you seen this type of tendonitis onset before?
I have had a problem for years with swelling in my feet and ankles. Traveling, warm weather make it worse. I have noticed a pattern which I was reminded of recently, and that is whenever I take a round of antibiotics, it relieves the swelling for a while. I finished a 10 day course on Avelox about a week and a half ago, and so far have had no swelling. Does anybody have any idea why this happens?
Fourth and perhaps most important, you should be evaluated for prostatitis, i.e. inflammation of the prostate gland. Although not an STD in the usual sense, such prostate problems can follow urethral infection. Some prostatitis is caused by UTI bacteria, especially with low counts of bacteria as noted above. Others are classified as "nonspecific" or "nonbacterial".

I was diagnosed with pneumonia 4 days ago when I went in for pain in my heart area and shortness in breath.. I'm on antibiotics, still can't cough anything out but today I started feeling pain in my lower back area where kidneys are. I urinate every 10, 15 minutes and the color in clear.. My mouth is dry all the time which I think is a side effect from the antibiotics.
Could have the pneumonia caused issues in my kidneys or bladder???
For many years I have pains that pop up for no reason in joints and muscles and last for usually three to six months and then vanish. I get rashes and tiny red spots on my shins and then clear up. The rashes last about the same three to six months. I had these pains in both my shoulders at once, which almost never happens, so I thought it was my rotator cuffs going due to the work that I do.
33 year old male. Since November of 2010, have been having what I thought were UTI's. Symptoms: frequency of urination, frequency of urination at night (once per hour sometimes), ache in left testicular area, 2 nights of waking up sweaty, sore lower back/hips, and my semen volume was reduced, and often had what looked like strands of white material inside it. treated with doxycycline by end of june for 1 wk. started on avelox end of july for 1 wk. then given levaquin for a wk. by last wk doc said she didn't think was infection cause levaquin shoudl have killed anything, even though I was still having gobs of green phlegm coming down the back of my throat and out of my lungs. she sent me to the asthma and allergy clinic where i was tested for 27 diff allergies all negative for.
A MD prescribed 2 grams of azithromycin one time for this a week ago. I also have had a previous bout of prostatitis due to Proteus (years ago). My questions are 1. What was my risk of stds (gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, NGU could happen), 2. Would this medication address the STDs and 3. Do I need a "test of cure"?

Currently I have 6 days remaining on the doxycycline and 9 days remaining on the avelox. I have not engaged in any sexual activity whatsoever since my diagnosis however I still have a very mild clear mucus discharge primarily in the morning; the penile itching and dysuria has abated.
