Common Questions and Answers about Avandia and pregnancy

avandia

Avatar n tn She is gaining weight, has trouble breathing, and has been experiencing some chest pains lately (Dr. gave nitro). She is on avandia and I would like to know if this could be the cause of her recent decline in health?
Avatar m tn s diabetes medication, Avandia. This came one year after public charges of cardiac and liver safety were leveled against GlaxoSmithKline regarding the drug. GSK continues to maintain that Avandia is no less a threat to the liver than its competitors.
Avatar m tn my researcher is in pisa and this TZD research is in florence so these doctors know each other or work together and i will be able to tell you more about both avandia and its combo with nucs
Avatar f tn Can I take Evening Primrose and Femara together? I'm also taking Avandia. Any thoughts would be great!
2053416 tn?1330411192 Actos belongs in class of diabetes medications called thiazolidinediones. In this class are Avandia and a combination drug Avandamet [Avandia and Metformin]. Rezulin is in this class but not much known about it.
Avatar m tn I use Actos, but for some reason my fingers typed Avandia. Our FDA went through the same review on Avandia recently, and reluctantly left it on the shelf; however, it is used only when patients are found refractory to other, similar drugs, I believe. FlGuy, although I was down to 185 pounds at one point during treatment, I’m currently the lankiest 6’ 0” 250 pounder you’ve ever seen :o). I’ve always led an active lifestyle, so I don’t fit the sedentary profile of typical DM II patients.
Avatar n tn Due to our insurance company copays, we are spending more per month on diabetic supplies than we can afford. Is there a pharmacy that will accept what the insurance company pays and not require the copay? I know such things exist for Type 2 on Medicaid, but what about for type 1? Thanks!
1236243 tn?1277680851 ve been on Actos for 9 years and have no problems. Avandia is effectively off the market but ACTOS was not removed. The diabetic educator should know better that suggest someone get off a drug. Suggesting that he/she contact their M.D. was a good idea, but not necessarily required, unless the 'one man in the class' is having noticable adverse side-effects. Rumor monger statements and posts like this one are more scary than it actually should be.
Avatar f tn said she saw no reason for me to be on Avandia and i have since stopped useing it. It was never vy high, around 159 or so when it was diagnosed. If i am not careful of my diet it can jump up to the 130's to 140's. Am also on diovan for HBP which is usually under good control with the 1 med.
Avatar m tn [copy/paste] "For reasons still not identified, the long-term use of Actos weakens the respiratory tract’s immunity. This results to throat and respiratory infections like sore throat, sinusitis, coughs, and colds." Use with caution if you have heart issues. Also, Avandia is the other drug that falls into this classification. The FDA warns not to use Avandia for first time users, in fact, the FDA severely restricts its use.
Avatar f tn what will happen if i do have this thing. i have had two pregnancy one ended at 5month and the other at about 6weeks. i want to have baby desperately. can you please help me.
Avatar n tn That sounds like it should be good for you if you are ovulating on your own and aren't having any other problems. I was on femara and avandia (for PCOS), and I had to have a trigger shot (because I don't ovulate on my own). But I got pregnant on my second month of femara (with IUI). And that was after 6 years of trying and being on clomid for a really long time. So I really believe in femara!
Avatar n tn I am experiencing some weight loss and I am not sure if it due to my sugar, the fact I was taken off Avandia and put on Junovia because I know Avandia increases weight or if something else is happening to me. Also would high blood sugar like mine lead to sweating, tingling in legs and hands and I almost feel like my body is hot...
Avatar m tn ve been on glucophage since the beginning (10 years) , with the exception of a short and nearly fatal foray into Avandia use. I've had all those symptoms for ten years. I also have passed out several times from low blood sugar, something the doctors say doesn't happen on this medication. Ha, ha. Tell that to the Saturday morning crowd at Denny's. I have been told I am an exception and, normally, the symptoms are supposed to fade after a few months.
506810 tn?1210691647 t mature? So now she took me off of metformin and I just started avandia. And wheneveer I start my next period she's gonna put me on Femara and an hcg shot. Has anyone had any success with any of these meds??!! Also, since I took clomid this month, is that gonna allow me to start my period without provera? If anyone has any advise, it will be greatly appreiciated!!
95361 tn?1219870284 I take Metformin 850 x 3, Januvia 100mg (only for about the last two weeks) and just started on Avandia 4 mg for diabetes. My other meds are for thyroid, GERD, potassium, generalized dystonia (levodopa). Is this something I should be concerned about? I see my doctor in a week and a half, but do I need to contact her before then if this happens again?
603046 tn?1279159413 Thanks for the response.I was not given specific times and conditions by the doctor when to monitor my glucose. I tamke it twice a day. Once upon waking up and just before bedtime. My diet has always been the same. I have no problem avoiding fatty foods. I eat lots of fruits and vegetables and prefer to eat chicken and fish. As far as excercise is concerned, nothing regimented but I am physically active most of the time.
963017 tn?1247161979 The nausea comes when im hungry and after i eat its replaced with diarrhea and/or gas. I figured that the side effects from Vitex would have happened by now but I know it takes awhile to build up in your system. Has anybody taken Vitex? Did it work? Any side effects? Thanks for your help!
Avatar f tn I'm new to this forum but I have this situation that has been bothering me for the last five years. first off, I have been diagnosed with PCOS since I was 13 years old. my doctor gave me birth control to regulate and it worked. however the older I got the more weight piled onto me. he told me when I found out I had PCOS to look it up on the net and that aside from the bc was all I got. in my twenties I went from met to avandia, which made me sick, back to bc.
Avatar m tn For myself, I now, after going off Avandia, have an average of 99. I watch my diet, walk and exercise daily and have lost abt 20 lbs . My Dr put me immediately on Avandia but with the inexcusable news of the possibility of its affecting ones heart, i stopped using it. My new Dr. questioned my ever being on it in the first place.
Avatar f tn I'm a G3 and I've read that G3's are more likely to get fatty liver, and that it does improve after tx. I can't be sure about G2's, but, if you are SVR, your liver should improve slowly over time if you look after yourself and I would hope that says the same for fatty liver. I'm hoping to have an ultrasound soon, so I can check on progress.
20922415 tn?1661860103 If pregnancy occurs, progesterone is produced in the placenta, and levels remain elevated throughout the pregnancy. The combination of high estrogen and progesterone levels suppresses further ovulation during pregnancy. Progesterone also encourages the growth of milk-producing glands in the breast during pregnancy. High progesterone levels are believed to be partly responsible for symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS), such as breast tenderness, feeling bloated, and mood swings.
Avatar f tn I got very anxious about the weight loss and thought I had cancer and then went to the pharmacy and started research and found out it was the met that was doing it. One morning I woke up and had shed 4 lbs overnight. I generally have very little appetite - use to lick my plate and now I don't finish even the smallest meal. I do seem to crave sweets late in the evening. (Maybe I SHOULD take it in the evening!
Avatar f tn Now, with watching my diet, exercising and loseing abt 20 lbs. I am off meds. Had been on Avandia but when the news came out as to it possibly affecting the heart, I stopped it as have MVP & High Cholesterol & Low Thyroid. There is also Stroke and Heart Attack in my parents and farther back. Recently changed Drs. and this one is willing to let me use the above mentioned as long as my averages are good. My avg now is 99. My previous Dr.
