10996785 tn?1432812977 Yes, I agree with you from my perspective as far as Rhabdomyolysis goes Lipitor is probably the worst of the bunch. But Vytorin, that I took afterwards, has it beat, at least in my case, because I wound up in the E.R. with kidney problems - the pain was just unbearable. Although it brought my total Cholesterol down from 265 to 160. Although my Cholesterol is high now for the last three years after giving up on Statins altogether after a brief encounter with Crestor.
Avatar f tn version which most doctors automatically prescribe to patients as a starter. Atorvastatin is another common one. 1385464 tn?1293443504 What would cause rhabdomyolysis if I contracted it somehow earlier this year but was NOT in the general categories that usually cause it? (like drug use, being still for a long period of time, etc) My creatine kinase levels STILL-months later-rise and fall. I don't get it. Does anyone have an answer? Not sure if I should categorize this in rare diseases or autoimmune disorders...

It can be caused by too- vigorous exercise, especially when dehydrated, among other things.

Examples include excessive lowering of blood pressure with the calcium channel blockers, rhabdomyolysis and the potential for renal impairment with the HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, and adverse pulmonary effects of amiodarone.
Avatar n tn It is easy to find information regarding drug-drug interactions for omeprazole (Prilosec) and atorvastatin (Lipitor). The omeprazole appears to increase the bioavailability of the statin, increasing the risk of side effects. Does this mean that the interaction is like taking a higher dose of the statin, which would provide benefit for someone like me who only takes a low dose (10mg atorvastatin daily) and has no statin tolerance issues?

Avatar n tn What is the statistic probability that Atorvastatin Ca will convert itself into his enantiomer? We believe that this conversion is improbable for 2 reasons First it requires breaking bonds in two different chiral sites in the molecule which will require substantial energy and will not happen spontaneously Second the statistical probability that the reforming of the bond in the enantiomer in this very specific way is close to zero. We would be appreciative to hear your opinion.
