Common Questions and Answers about Arimidex with food

arimidex

Avatar n tn with a holistic practice showed a problem in one of my estrogen pathways, and recommended a broccoli seed extract with SGS (sulforaphane glucosinolate). Might it enhance or interfere with Arimidex? My oncologist doesn't seem to know. Thanks.
Avatar n tn yes, I am sure on 1200 calories a day and with exercise anyone can lose weight, but not everyone can follow these rules, with or without taking Arimidex. I just don't want a woman to read your message and think it's only if they follow your rules exactly that they have a chance from benefiting from Arimidex?
Avatar n tn I am 42 and have been on Arimidex since Feb. 20, 2009. I have had a hysterectomy in May to remove my ovaries. I have gained 15 pounds. I am on a 1600 calorie/day diet and walk six miles a day, four days a week. I would like to know if there is any thing else I can do to battle this weight gain. I will be on Arimidex for another four years.
Avatar n tn I just finished my two years of tamoxifen and start my arimidex this week. I recently developed severe stomach pains with cramps, diarrhea and what feels like acid indigestion that has lasted for almost a week. Everything I swallow with the exception of water, makes me hurt terribly. We were in Costa Rica when it started so my G.P. thinks it's either a parasite or a staff infection. I wondered if it could be from my chemo and radiation treatments.
Avatar n tn On the contrary, Hypertension is an uncommon side effect of Arimidex, and the blood clot problems are also less with Arimidex compared to the other hormonal treatment, tamoxifen. The management of hypertension should proceed just like the management of the more common forms of hypertension. It will be very hard to ascertain if the hypertension is due to the arimidex without formally withdrawing the drug and observing your blood pressure.
Avatar f tn NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - After approximately 8 years, postmenopausal women with hormone-sensitive breast cancer who received (Arimidex), generically known as anastrazole, had a lower risk of recurrence than women taking tamoxifen, investigators reported at the annual meeting of the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium. After an average of 68 months, women on Arimidex had a 15-percent greater disease-free survival and a 25-percent longer time to disease recurrence than women on tamoxifen.
Avatar m tn Dear madwilson, Hairloss is not a usual side effect associated with Arimidex. Arimidex is an aromatase inhibitor. This means it blocks the enzyme aromatase (found in the body's muscle, skin, breast and fat), which is used to convert androgens (hormones produced by the adrenal glands) into estrogen. In the absence of estrogen, tumors dependent on this hormone for growth will shrink. For more information regarding this drug and side effects you can check out the website chemocare.com.
746377 tn?1263180080 I had a lumpectomy, radiation and now Arimidex. How likely is this tumour with no vessel or nodal invasion present, onco type dx score in low recurrence, to metastasis?
Avatar n tn ) I also now occasionally consult a holistic MD (referred by my oncologist) for nutritional advice. I am thinking of adding a supplement with the arimidex (broccoli seed extract - a natural aromatase inhibitor) and monitoring estradiol/estrone with blood tests after starting the supplement. If there were a negative interaction between the arimidex and the broccoli seed extract, how accurate would the blood test's estrogen results be?
Avatar n tn I too have been blaming Arimidex. Can I ask you if you are coughing badly with the mucus too? I feel like I am chocking at times! I know what you mean about the salty taste, and yet my food actually tastes bland. I would love to hear from you.
Avatar n tn i. symptoms be a side effect of anastrozole (arimidex)? I have been taking it for 3 1/2 years, after 1 year on tamoxifen, following lumpectomy, chemo and radiation.
Avatar n tn Been on Arimidex 26 months. Having numbness in hands and feet. Oncologist doesn't think it's related to Arimidex. Anyone have this problem while on this drug?
Avatar m tn Armidex may not prolong his growth period much longer with such an advanced bone age, it is a medication used to block estrogen effect, also used in breast cancer, there are concerns with the liver but if monitored carefully most have few side effects. However with a bone age of 17 1/2 growth is near completion. I would work with the peds endocrinologist and talk with them to discuss your concerns, plan of care and monitoring.
Avatar n tn I feel comfortable with the idea of switching from Tamoxifen into Arimidex to get the benefit of both. Of course, each case is different and treatment these days is individualized, however, it is important to learn as much as we can to participate in the process. As a preventive measure, I am considering removing my ovaries in two years, a simple laperoscopic procedure. I say simple considering the general implications of bc. Don't want to take any chances.
Avatar n tn I started taking Arimidex about five months ago. Since then I have had many of the typical side effects such as hand/joint pain, neuropathy in my hands, hot flashes, wakefulness at night etc. However, my sight in one eye has also begun to noticeably deteriorate. I know, because I had my eyes checked and a new eye prescription just before I started taking Arimidex. I saw my eye doctor again last week and my vision has deteriorated from 20/40 to 20/70 (with correction) in just a few months.
Avatar f tn I met again and I am off for 30 days and will then start Arimidex as Novartis indicated switching often helps, with side effects abating or decreasing with a switch. I have been treated with Acupuncture as recommended by a fellow survivor, and per Novartis women who used Acupuncture in Clinical Trials had the most relief.
Avatar n tn Does Arimidex have to actually kill you vs. maiming you for life, in order to be pulled off the market? At 58, I may need a hip replacement because I took Arimidex for two years! DeeDee This discussion is related to Arimidex Long Term Side Effects.
Avatar f tn I saw a Professor of Endocrinology in Feb 2008, referred by my bc surgeon, as this guy has an academic interest in side effects of Arimidex. He suggested I continue with Arimidex and Fosamax to prevent further bone loss, but I cannot stand the pain and disturbance to my sleep. Does anyone have any experience of stopping Arimidex and getting a different med that does not have the side effect of bone pain?
Avatar n tn However, in these small studies, they have found promising results in lessening the pain and bleeding episodes from endometriosis treated with arimidex. I would also just like to caution on the possible side effects of these drugs such as bone pains or fractures. Regards.
Avatar f tn I just completed 5 years on arimidex and have been asked to be part of a study and go on it for another 5 years. Has cancer reoccurred in patients while they have been on arimidex, not due to the drug, but due to the cancer. In other words, does taking arimidex prevent cancer from reoccurring while a patient is on it?
Avatar n tn My oncologist is in the process of deciding whether to prescribe Letrozole/Femara or Anastrozole/Arimidex. What considerations factor into which of these two drugs to use? Has anyone had experience with either of them? How serious are the side effects?
Avatar f tn I have been out of work and my life disrupted for a month and am already loosing everything due to financial stress 6 more months of treatment with chemo and work disruption i fear will ruin me. What are my chances with just arimidex treatment? PET scan shows negative to any cancer anywhere else. I have lobular and ductal breast cancer .
Avatar n tn With the information you give concerning your problem with your WBC that isn't much of a change ... you might discuss it with your Oncologist though.
