Avatar f tn I went back to the dentist who diagnosed a gum infection to the side of the extraction site. Amoxicillin was prescribed as well as Peridex. The gum infection subsided and following a second visit, the dentist said the infection was now controlled. I have however, when I press the gum on the side of the extraction site a very bad pus smell coming up from the right nostril, other than that I do not have any other symptoms.
Avatar f tn 4 days after Amoxicillin, pain came back. Started same way, sore Left side throat, red swollen gum around the tooth, hard white bump, ? Fistula - maybe a piece of bone, painful. Made appt w/ Oral Surg, Rx'd more Amoxicillin, which eventually helped swelling go down. At appt., did x-ray, not catscan. He did not see anything wrong. But, on physical exam of the wisdom tooth, thought he found crack in tooth, below gumline.
Avatar f tn My dentist prescribed me 500 mg of amoxicillin every 6 hours for a gum infection. It's been a few days now and Ifeel better and I want to resume my workout schedule. Is strenuous exercise contraindicated when taking amoxicillin? Also, is sun exposure a factor, and if so, how long after you complete the round of antibiotics should you wait before you are able to go back out in the sun?
Avatar n tn National Library of Medicine, amoxicillin is available in a pediatric drop form for infants. Each ml of this bubble-gum flavored liquid contains 50 mg of amoxicillin, states Rx List. Babies under the age of 3 months receive 30 mg of amoxicillin each day for every 2.2 lb. of body weight, according to Rx List. Pediatric drops can be placed directly in the mouth or mixed with baby formula, juice or water, notes Drugs.com.

Avatar m tn About a month ago I cracked a tooth. A week or so after the crack is swelled up pretty bad. I went to urgent care and the doctor games me 500mg of penicillin 4 times a day. The penicillin knocked out the swelling in a couple days and everything pretty much went back to normal. Last night the area swelled up again and even my law line started swelling. I could feel a large bump in my gum line which I'm guessing was the infection.
Avatar n tn I took him to the emergency room and they said it may be a reaction to a viral infection and prescribed amoxicillian for 10 days...It has been 6 days and still they are bleeding...What is wrong? He is too young for gum disease, right?

Avatar m tn So I had Strep Throat over the weekend. Seen my doctor and he put me on Amoxicillin. My strep cleared up for the most part (the white crap all over my throat). Throat is still sore and have ulcers in a few places around my mouth. Not to worried about that, what does worry me is now my gums are killing me. I cannot even tough them with a brush. No blood as of yet from them. Is this the last of the infection retreating?
Avatar n tn I was put on Amoxicillin for 7 days (500 mg every 6 hours) to get rid of the infection, and went in yesterday for my root canal. I told the endodontist performing my procedure that it didn't feel like the infection was completely gone even though I finished my antibiotics. He told me that wasn't a problem and went ahead with my root canal. He sealed it up with a temporary filling and I have to go back in a week for the permenant composite filling.
Avatar m tn I'm in Ireland for my honeymoon (having a blast!) but a little concerned about a gum abscess related to a failing root canal that doesn't seem to be reacting to 500mg of amoxicillin 4 times a day... I was diagnosed with a failing root canal by my endodontist last Tuesday, 3/7. This was after seeing my regular dentist a week earlier who put me on a 7 day prescription of amoxicillin that seemed to help with the inflammation and immense pain.
Avatar f tn I had a cleaning and when they were checking my filling in #3 there was apparently a crack and I received an infection. I was put on Amoxicillin and a root canal was performed on June 23, two days later an incision was made in the gum to clean out some of the infection, the next day a small hole was made in the upper gum to try and drain some of the infection. On July 1st I was sent to an oral surgeon who did a panoramic of my face and there was infection the size of a walnut up into my sinus.
Avatar f tn Now, I am taking amoxicillin and have seen a periodontist who wants to do a gum graft and place gum from the inside of my mouth over the implant so there isn't a hole anymore. After five infections, multiple rounds of antibiotics, and seeing four different doctors (2 dentists, 1 oral surgeon, 1 periodontist), is there any end in sight for me?
Avatar n tn Also the sinus infection caused very watery orange discharge from the sinus cavities and flow when I bent my head down. I had a sinus infection and gum infection at the same time. I took Amoxicillin for a week and it all cleared up.
Avatar m tn How long after starting amoxicillin before the pain from a tooth infection goes away? I saw the dentist and started taking amoxicillin about 30 hours ago. I have a root canal scheduled a week from now. But the pain is as intense as it was prior to starting the treatment. I do have type II diabetes treated with diet and pills. I know this can prolong infections. But wow, I sure would like the pain to decrease. I'm taking vicodin and it still hurts! Thanks!
Avatar f tn I went to the dentist on the 1st who sent me to an oral surgeon and percribed me 12 Tylenol #3 and amoxicillin. Finished the amoxicillin and saw the oral surgeon on the 8th. I have extractions scheduled for the 23rd but I still have an abscessed tooth. I had to go back to my dentist on the 15th for her to tell me that she wouldn't give me another dose of antibiotics and to take tylenol (which ive practically been living off of the last few weeks) for the pain. Which doesn't help.
Avatar m tn I did take the PCN, but I did not have an infection, so you are in a different situation. I do not like taking any meds because of my heart, so I understand your concern. Because I was a new patient with a history of heart arrythmia, they called for my echo report which showed trace regurgitation. That is why they had me take it. What's funny is, neither my cardio or family doc let me know I even had trace regurg.
Avatar n tn A few months ago, half of one of my upper premolars broke off after biting into a granola bar. I must have had a cavity on that tooth for a long time but never realized it. There was no discomfort when the tooth broke and since I don't have dental insurance, I put off having i looked at. Fast forward to 2 nights ago I noticed a dull throbbing ache not on the tooth itself but on the gum all the way up near where the inner cheek meets the gumline.
Avatar f tn I went to the dentist last sunday with an abscess tooth which is going to have to be a root canal started taking amoxicillin mon its now friday and still swollen no sign of abscess subsiding quite painful still planning to go to doctor or dentist tomorrow are there any symptoms i shoud be worried about and maybe go to emergency
Avatar n tn Hello, 5 weeks ago I woke up with severe pain in my bottom right side of mouth. The gums swelled up, so I went to the dentist. There was an abcessed tooth, so the Dentist pulled the tooth. The lump on my gums stayed swollen, so the Dentist took two additional x-rays of my mouth 2 and 3 weeks later and said the other teeth were fine and he wasn't sure what to make of it. He wanted me to wait and see if the swelling resided.
Avatar n tn Have you noticed any improvement after taking the amoxicillin? You might have an infection of some sort in your genital area. I would recommend that you follow up with your plan to go to the STD clinic. Even if you do not have an STD, the doctors there may be in a better position to let you know what is going on than your primary doctor. Best of luck..
Avatar f tn Okay so I have a gum infection around my wisdom tooth, pericoronitis. i've been on antibiotics, amoxicillin for 3 days now and not much has changed. my throat is starting to hurt so im scared the infection is spreading. i dont have dental insurance so i dont want to remove the tooth unless its the last resort. I want to get a operculectomy to remove the gums and hopefully it'll solve the infection. if it comes back, then i will really consider getting the tooth out.
Avatar n tn It seemed ok but about 2 months ago a small hole appeared on the gum in front of this teeth which sporadically leaks pus and the tooth feels sore now and then (with varying intesity of pain). My dentist has prescribed 2 courses of amoxicillin now but this has not fixed the problem. Any advice on what I should do now? I don't want to have the tooth out as it is a front bottom one.
Avatar f tn I had an abcess in my gum deep by the bone line just under my nose on (my left) canine tooth. It was deep to where it took 4 days to come to a head on the outer gum area. This swelled immensely causing my lip to bulge, left eye swelling, cheek was massive. It disappeared after2 weeks of amoxicillin ibuprofen and naproxen. Everything was fine for a few weeks now i have severe pain under my nose and in my cheek bone area. When i press down it hurts worse.
Avatar f tn I've been on Amoxicillin for 5 days for a tooth abscess. I went to the dentist for significant facial swelling, and was diagnosed with the abscess. The swelling has gone down, however I now have a pus pocket on my gum above my molars. It's only painful when I touch it, but I can see the swelling under my cheek when I smile. Since I'm already on Amoxicillin, can I pop the abscess using a sterilized needle? It's Friday night, and the dentist won't be in until Monday...
Avatar f tn Well, probably the first cause to suspect for lowering platelets would be some infection, whether the gum infection or any other infection such as even a virus. Infection causes inflammation, and inflammation causes platelets to get 'sticky' and clump together, which uses them up. Mental stress can be involved. "RESULTS: MPV was found to be significantly higher... and platelet count was found to be significantly lower in the [high anxiety] group" https://tandfonline.
Avatar f tn I recently had to go through one round of Amoxicillin and then another of Clyndamycin before my infection was under control ... and I still think I have some infection because one of the other teeth I had crowned is heat sensitive, indicating the presence of bacteria in the root. :-( good luck, hope you feel better soon.
