Do you mean Fosamax (alendronate)? If you do, its for treating bone problems like Osteoperosis by adding bone mass and slows bone loss. I use it for Osteopenia.
Stress fractures themselves are not indicative of osteoporosis. Fragility fractures-- which include a fracture of the hip, pelvis, wrist, spine, or shoulder sustained during a fall from standing height-- are concerning for osteoporosis.
It is probably worth a baseline screening with a DXA scan, along with a basic panel of labs evaluating for possible secondary causes of low bone density/recurrent stress fractures. If nothing else, this will provide reassurance.
I know that osteoporosis can lead to high risk of stress fractures, but I had a bone scan done (as part of a study I was in unrelated to MS) and I'm surprisingly good in that area.

Should I be worried that something worse is happening in my back, or could I have just irritated the old fractures somehow. Pain is 9/10 when it comes. How do you know if you are post menopausal? I am 49 years old and I was diagnosed with IBC in June of 07. I was not post menopausal. but then, I never had another period after I started the chemotherapy. I also take Tamoxifen since February 08. Does this definitely mean I am post menopausal?

As I have osteoporosis besides hep b, I have been taking Actonel 35mg for 5 years with little improvements and my doctor added now Evister for about 6 months. But I feel that those medicines are not helping me at all and may be they are damaging my already infected liver. So I decided to drop them and take instead vitamin k-2 (Menatetrenone (MK-4))
