hi im a week sober im in abit of pain on my leftside under my ribs and the other side is sore l have dirorrea its colour is yellow and as been for three weeks im on strong pain killers to ease the pain ive been drinking a year and a half one bottle of wine and two to three cans a day if you could help me it would be gratefull thankyou

Detoxing off of alcohol cold turkey can be very dangerous if the person has developed a profound dependance on alcohol. There can be very very serious, even life-threatening withdrawl symptoms. If he's at the point where he's puking from withdrawl it may not be safe for him to detox on his own. I would seriously SERIOUSLY consider having him detox in a hospital or rehab center. Not only will they treat his physical state so he can detox safely, they'll help treat his alcoholism.

I think the family needs some good advice and support from a drug counselor. Things seem very out of control and there are many ways to leverage her into rehab. (For example temporary custody of the children. Etc.) Time for tough love. and ultimatums. I would try to go the detox/rehab route because of the combination of the drugs and alcohol. A focused intervention with a drug counselor could be set up with a trip to detox immediately. Look in your phone book for drug/alcohol assistance.

re a functioning addict, then outpatient rehab may be for you. I did outpatient rehab, and I went from 9-3 for 3 weeks, and then nights. I do know that they worked with people. Maybe a week long detox and afternoon rehab sessions? The key is to call around..tell them what you need and ask them to work with you. You really do need a medically involved detox with alcohol. Can you give a little more on your history...are you a binge user? Every day?

I must have been in a decent rehab, because when I was in 20 years ago (for alcohol and drugs) I liked it so much that I didn't want to leave....truth. When I walked through the doors I felt like the weight of the world had been lifted from my shoulders. They will keep you comfortable while you detox then they will get you up and your days will be quite full.....group therapy, individual therapy, classes, journaling and meetings (AA and/or NA). You'll also have some free time.

k, i relly get this fear that i will have another episode and go to buy drink,,,i know that alcohol is a illness, but i do suffer with anxiety, Gad, and BPD, could this be the reasoning for me not caring when i buy alcohol, or is it just me being selfish............

It knocks out cravings for alcohol and narcotics. It worked good for me with the narcotics. If you would drink on it you would not get sick but you would not get the effects of the alcohol. The down fall to it is if you don't have ins it is $1,000 a month for the shot where I live anyways. The pills are a lot cheaper. I don't know if you would be interested in it but just wanted to pass on the info to you.

I think that for some people it really is a desease. Their bodies handle alcohol differently, and the end result of their drinking is always bad. For others, heavy drinking or alcoholism is a bad habit that takes years to develop. These people eventually become physically addicted, but they can break the physical addiction. For this group, it is problem that starts has a behavioral issue, but it takes on a life of its own once the body becomes physcially dependant.

I think before we bail-out any company, we need to take back all these million dollar bonuses that were given to executives for doing a bad job. It should be mandatory !

So rehab dried you out? If not, liver and renal functions ok for NOW. I drank for years before refining my habit to pills. Not proud of it, did alot of damage. Best to quit as soon as possible.

I know lithium intensifies with alcohol but know after not drinking for two weeks my hands are still shaking. Is it the combination of lithium and alcohol and the alcohol that is causing this? I plan to stop drinking and feel I have no problem doing that but how do I stop my hands from shaking?

Hi, Was sober almost three years until last Feb. 3, 2008. All kinds of bad things went wrong on Feb. 2, 2008. I bought a half-gallon of rum, and started again. I did stop drinking again after a few weeks for about a month. I went back to meetings. Been unemployed three and a half years, and was turned down for a very good job. Guess what? I've been drinking since! I have no way to pay for rehab, so I have to go it alone.

Alcohol and ANY medications is bad. Alcohol puts stress on all your organs and primarily your liver and kidneys...most medications are cleared through either your liver or your kidneys. Bad mix. You probably need to go to a Detox facility where you can be monitored and given the appropriate meds to help you get off the alcohol.

His father kicked him out and his mother is inadequate as a parent, meaning, she doesn't know how to be a parent and can not supply a safe place for him. They both love him but don't know how or even want to be parents for him. They both dealt with drug addiction themselves in the past so I would have thought they would be helpful but it seems they just want to let me deal with him, as if they have swept him under the rug.

We married and moved away from friends and family for his work. While away he became depressed and seemed to consume more and more alcohol. He started sneaking and I found out, I went to extremes such as checking bank accounts, bought and used a breathalyzer on him, basically had no life of my own. He finally realized he had a problem and went to AA. This was not enough. In April this year he went to a 3 wk inpatient rehab but they day he got out drank. Since then he had continued to drink.

My 18 yr old granddaughter has been arrested for calling her boyfriend who had a restraining order against her. She also has pending, stealing cigarettes, verbal abuse to a nurse, breaking a car window in an argument with someone & we did not post bail & would like to get power of attorney & see if we can have her put in a rehab. Hello Mustang. Call your doctor who first detoxed you. You didn't mention if you're alcoholic, but alcoholism is a disease, not a social problem. Relapse is common with the disease and I'm sure your doctor will understand. Don't worry, they just want to help us. It's what they got in the business for. As far as my story goes; l stay sober by going to AA. I surround myself in the atmosphere of recovery with other alcoholics. I could never do it alone.

My husband has been addicted to various drugs and alcohol for over 10 years. His current problem is opiates, xanax, and alcohol. But he'll basically take whatever he can get a hold of. He's tried quitting on his own a bazillion times, only to fail within a few days. SERIOUS help. Is rehab (a treatment-center) an option for him? If not, at the very least, he needs to get himself to a hospital so he can detox all the b/s out of his system before it KILLS him. ok the main point of me writing here today is because my brother is now on a programme where he is having to take several different tablets for his previous alcohol dependency, one includes an anti-craving, which am not sure what it is called, but now that he is taking it he cannot use a product that contains alcohol or can use very little, otherwise he gets ill, my brother is someone who takes care of his appeareance and uses hair gel, and usually takes longer in the bathroom than his gf!

I am. 62 y.o. Man. I went thru rehab for alcohol Nov/Dec 2011. I felt fine after. Since march 2012 I have experienced many symptoms including numbess, tingling, sleep change, pain throughout muscles and joints among others.I have had every blood test imaginable,, emg, MRI. Have seen pcp, , rheumatologist, neurologists. The most I have received is telling me I have some peripheral nerve damage.
