I personally don't know of any specialists for this condition. You can search online for different hospitals that have well-known cardiac centers and then look up the doctor's specialties and ratings that are at those centers. After you find a doctor that seems really good, make an appointment to see them and discuss with them what the best option for treatment is for you. I know it's hard to find a specialist, but don't give up.
After you detox and you no longer have insurance benefits for any rehab, what do you do? My grandson just checked into a detox facility but cannot return to his home. He is detoxing from oxy, valium, alcohol and was on a binge after 10 weeks clean. I dont know what to do to help him without enabling him..any suggestions? He is 18 last month so we dont get any info from detox facility.

I was here back in 2007 before you even had your second daughter, I just go by a different name now. I had actually been thinking about you recently because I am pregnant, almost 12 weeks now and it was not planned and I've been on Suboxone for over 450 days now due to a horrible addiction.
My husband has been addicted to various drugs and alcohol for over 10 years. His current problem is opiates, xanax, and alcohol. But he'll basically take whatever he can get a hold of. He's tried quitting on his own a bazillion times, only to fail within a few days. We even moved out of state to where he didn't know anyone to buy from, but he just replaced drugs with loads of alcohol. This has caused lots of strain on our relationship and I initiated a seperation last week.
What we were looking into is an in patient drug and alcohol rehab. I have looked at the quality treatment facilities in my area, given the fact that he was detoxed while a patient at Johns Hopkins he wants to continue his recovery on that front, for the most part the treatment facilities available within a distance of Hopkins (should something happen) are either inner city Baltimore and horrible, or out of network for our health insurance and crazy expensive.

I went to see the doctor about this around May and he prescribed an alcohol based gel because he thought it was some kind of infection or fungus and that the gel would get rid of it. The gel just makes my skin ridiculously flaky where it wasn't flaky before so I only used it a few times and stopped.

Using face soap makes it much worse and using a face moisturizer seems to help.
That is 1) We admitted we were powerless over alcohol, and that our lives have become unmanageable. So many people get through the detox, at home (which can be dangerous and is often done though a medically supervised detox).It's like it's all or nothing. Those that don't have the opportunity to go to a residential / outpatient Rehab Facility do not instead go to an Addictions Therapist and use them for the therapy that is many times necessary to quit an addictive substance.
Detoxing off of alcohol cold turkey can be very dangerous if the person has developed a profound dependance on alcohol. There can be very very serious, even life-threatening withdrawl symptoms.
If he's at the point where he's puking from withdrawl it may not be safe for him to detox on his own. I would seriously SERIOUSLY consider having him detox in a hospital or rehab center. Not only will they treat his physical state so he can detox safely, they'll help treat his alcoholism.
Dear Jevs2, Some centers will assign ratings to biopsy results of fine needle aspirations a scale from 1-5. One meaning inadequate cells to diagnose , two meaning benign (non-cancerous) to five meaning malignant (cancer cells found in the sample). A C4 rating is "suspicious" for malignancy, and more tissue is likely needed to be sure of what this is, it doesn't mean a definite diagnosis of cancer.
I have a multi nodular goiter and have been part of a great cancer centers thyroid clinic for over three years. One nodule was biopsied several years ago but has actually decreased in size tremendously over the three years. I have had several nodules rated a Tirads 2, approx. 1.2 cm in size that did not warrant biopsy.
For my recent follow up I was pretty surprised that out of approximately seven nodules (most sub centimeter), three of them had sizes from 2.5 cm, and one was at 5 cm.
You seem to be over the worst of the physical, but don't be suprised when you stop taking those 4 a day if you don't feel some withdrawal again. Rehab can work well for some people. I did rehab a few years ago, I did outpatient rehab. I went to the center M-F from 8:30a to 4:30 pm. We did have an evening "class" every week for family members to come and get involved in our recovery.
Not all rehab centers are equal. Many if not most try to do it too quickly with a one size fits all approach, whereas an individual psychiatrist who really knows his stuff will go at your pace. Not that those are easy to find! By the way, you need a new psychiatrist. The one you have doesn't seem to realize he works for you.
Over the past three years, I have slipped into two addictions: alcohol abuse and xanax abuse. I have struggled with anxiety for years and began taking a low dosage of xanax approximately nine years ago. I have used it "off and on" until the past three years where it has become a daily staple. I am not sure of the dosage, but I usually take 1 to 1 1/2 "purple" xanax per day.
