Avatar n tn The treatment requires close medical supervision by a dermatologist because the drug has many known side effects (many of which can be severe). You must wait at least 8 weeks between courses of Accutane. Accutane results in failure or relapse when: i)The patient has not taken Accutane at a high enough dose, or not taken it for long enough. The recommended dose is 0.5 to 1mg X kg patients bodyweight per day for 16 to 24 weeks.
Avatar f tn Is this documented that Accutane does cause premature epiphyseal closure? If so why is this drug being prescribed and why isn't this on the long list of side effects. My son was on this and he has not grown since, or while taking it. He was just past his 14th birthday when he took it. His acne was severe and it is also now back. It did clear up for a short time. He is only 5, 5. I started typing in about accutane and growth and have come up with a long list of concerncs about growth.
546892 tn?1214525401 The Food and Drug Administration implied consent form because of the accutaine lawsuits that the patients filed who suffered serious accutane caused side effects which they told to be unaware of at the time they started the treatment. The general public remains misinformed about Accutane's potential dangers as well as its benefits. Dosage and duration of acne treatment wit Accutaine depends upon the severity of the patient’s acne. Normally the treatment last for about sixteen weeks.
Avatar n tn Hello, Accutane is known to cause hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation but these side effects are not permanent. You seem to be having post inflammatory hypopigmentation since it is occurring after bumps. Although this type of skin problem is very difficult to treat, but you can try Elidel cream or Protropic ointment on these hypopigmented areas. But use them after a dermatologist’s guidance.
Avatar n tn As a patient with MS, you can expect to have the same risks and side effects as other people on accutane, and these side effects and risks need to be discussed with you by your dermatologist before you start taking it. However, I would also run this by your neurologist who manages your MS just to make sure he/she feels that accutane may affect your MS in some way. Thank you for this opportunity to answer your questions, I hope you find the information I have provided useful, good luck.

Avatar n tn Accutane has alot of varied side-effects, but some people don't have adverse reactions. my girlfriend had taken accutane and didn't have any stomach reactions but part of the accutane contract requires birth control regardless of activity. But I know my gf's opinion i: " Accutane is great" It worked for her really well for acne, and she didn't exhibit negative side effects from it.
Avatar f tn About 25% of patients may relapse after one treatment. In those cases, a second treatment for another 4-6 months may be indicated to obtain desired results. It is often recommended that one lets a few months pass between the two treatments, because the condition can actually improve somewhat in the time after stopping the treatment and waiting a few months also gives the body a chance to recover. Occasionally a third or even a fourth course is used, but the benefits are often less substantial.
Avatar m tn This is an effective treatment for nearly anyone suffering from ED or impotence, but does have side effects. IMO I think ur too young for meds but u should speak with ur DR. He/She will give u proper recommendation as to what will work for u. Good luck!

Avatar m tn ve just been recently prescribed by my dermatologist Isotretinoin (accutane) and am on my 4th day of treatment. After doing extensive research on how accutane affects growth, it really concerns me as I'm currently only 16 years and 8 months old and hence am still in the growing stage of my life. My dermatologist however has prescribed me a very low dosage of 10mg per day for 7 consecutive days, after which would be switching onto a 30mg PER WEEK dose.
Avatar n tn Hello, Cortisone shots are sometimes used for treatment of acne but they are not without side effects. In addition to the systemic side effects, they can cause flushing of the skin, skin pigmentation and sometimes an allergic reaction to cortisone. You can go in for other treatments like dermabrasion, chemical peels, laser resurfacing, punch grafts etc. I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Warm regards.
Avatar m tn Hello, The Mayo Clinic reports there have been reports of skin discoloration of either lightening or darkening, and facial redness after use of Accutane , but the incidence of occurrence of these side effects is unknown. What you are having are side effects of the drug Accutane and when you are taking Accutane, you should avoid going out in the sun.
Avatar m tn My 14 year old son has severe acne on his face, chest and back. He has been seeing a dermatologist for over a year now. He has tried every over the counter medication out there as well as antibiotics (2 different kinds and several different MGs), 6 different prescription acne creams/gels. They seem to work for a little while then stop. Right now his skin is really bad-his face is covered in large, red bumps with white heads. His back is bad too-but to a lesser degree.
Avatar n tn My 17 year old daughter developed fibroadenoma one month after starting accutane. She is still on accutane. Should I wait till she is off the accutane to have the surgery?
Avatar n tn Can you please tell me if the effects of vaginal dryness after accutane are permanent. I've been on it for 6 months and finished my course yesterday. But 3 days ago I had stimulation and sex and it was dry down there and the sex hurt. I've never experienced this I'm 22 and really worried it won't go away. Answers appreciated.
Avatar m tn Dear quan31 , Thanks for writing in. First of all, please remember that the effects and side effects of accutane will last only for 6 months. So you don't need to bother about it too much. Side effects like dryness of eyes occur only while you are accutane and not after many months of withdrawal of drug. The flushing in your case may be due to acne rosacea which could concomitantly occur with acne vulgaris or after many months.
Avatar m tn Discuss with your dermatologist. If you don't want to accept the possiblity of those side effects then don't take the medications. All medications have side effects. Each year several thousand people bleed to death from aspirin. One person's cure is another person's side effect. The only people that would have you believe that if a side effect occurs the doctor or the pharmaceutical company did something wrong are trial lawyers.
