Accutane dosage for oily skin

Common Questions and Answers about Accutane dosage for oily skin

accutane

Avatar m tn Last time after control visit, he said it will be no problem for this move, just to follow the prescribed medicines (Accutane 10 mg for 03 months). But I'm doubting because , in Algiers in summer sometimes Humidity is around 60% to 70% (25 to 30Deg C), I feel uncomfortable, but with Accutane Ok (no new pimples). But in a Congo the climate is in all the year under min. 80% of relative humidity, may be very difficult.
Avatar n tn A year or so later, I used accutane, but only for 3 months or so. The accutane reduced the cysts but made my skin very dry, particularly on my forehead and lips. I stopped using accutane due to the side effects and basically gave up on my skin. For the next two years my forehead continued to have very dry, dead looking skin on it and my skin had moderate-severe acne.
Avatar m tn Hi. I am 19 and have had moderate acne/oily skin for 2 years. Antibiotics and other topical have not worked well enough and the dermatologist is recommending that I go on accutane. I have an app. about it in several weeks. My father had severe acne until he took accutane for 3 months at a high dose without recieving any negative side effects, which cleared up 90 percent of the acne. My mother didnt have acne. I am ready to go on accutane, but the thing is that I do submission wrestling.
Avatar m tn They are probably too harsh if you stay on the Accutane, but I wish I could have tried tea tree oil or white vinegar when I had oily skin and breakouts. Didn't know about those. I never tried Accutane.
Avatar f tn After more than 10 years of mostly clear skin my complexion has fallen apart seemingly due to the hormones brought on by pregnancy. It has been a year of bad breakouts, oily skin, not limited to my face but also my chest and back as well. My dermatologist has given me a prescription for Doxycycline as well as Epiduo Gel, which was not covered by my insurance and so i was not able to get that. It seems to me that there are some similarities between this antibiotic and Accutane.
Avatar m tn jus t to let you know my story, i was a life long sufferer, i am 33 years old now, very oily skin and very pale. I have tried everyting from over the counter to medication nothing has worked. i am 33 up until this january i was losing hope, i was about to try accutane. i didnt want accutance because of the side effects but these pimples/cysts were killing socially. I then did soome research. I have made a 100% turn around. this worked for me, i am acne free.
Avatar n tn Recently I stopped using moisturizers because my skin seemed too oily and voila my skin looks very good (my blepharitis also cleared up as soon as I stopped using treatments). However my extremely flaky/seemingly dry lips remain. Am I right in thinking that the lips are caused by having taken 40 mg a day of accutane for 5 mths up until April of 09, or could they be a result of my seborrheic dermatitis?
1155893 tn?1263018015 NO, IT REALLY DOES NOT WORK FOR ACNE just some light skin break outs but not cystic pimples -the kind that are big bumps under your epidermis-for real acne you need to go to a dermatologist get on real medication (oral and washes /topical lotions) !
Avatar f tn I have had persistent but fairly mild acne since I was 18 (almost 11 years now). Last year I gave in and went onto accutane for 8 months which transformed my skin from oily with constant but mild cystic acne (usually on my chin) to zero spots and just a slight oiliness. However, since lockdown I’ve noticed my skin has changed again on my chin. The pores on my chin and sometimes a few around my nose are constantly clogged and bumpy.
1481901 tn?1287727244 as i used to have oily skin but now its changing somewhere dry somehwere peeled...waht to do ...? which lotion is useful or any creams? m really worried ...as i m just 4 wks pregnant.thanks for all of ur suggestions ..
Avatar n tn Now it is back and just as bad as it was prior to Accutane. My dermatologist said that typically for someone with my condition Accutane isn't prescribed but since it worked before she thinks it would work again. I am not sold on the idea of taking Accutane as it's side effects are numerous and I am trying to have a baby. I would like to figure out what is causing this and how to get rid of it once and for all. Any advice would be appreciated!
Avatar n tn Hi Dr. Rockoff I am a 26 year old guy who has experiecned acne for half my life, probably even more. I went on accutane 3 times, ages 15, 17 and 20. After that I have tried proactiv and every medication a dermatologist could imagine. Nothing besides accutane ever worked. At this point, I don't see myself growing out of it. I went to get a facial last week and the aesthetician said that I don't have oily skin and that what I have is not acne but ingrown hairs.
Avatar m tn Other necessary precautions are to avoid exposure to UV rays, avoid too much alcohol, and not to take tetracycline antibiotics whilst on Accutane or for 5 weeks afterwards. Female Accutane patients must use two forms of contraception whilst on Accutane and for 5 weeks afterwards. Male patients do not need to abstain from unprotected sex but must not donate blood in case it is given to a pregnant women.
Avatar m tn hi! i've just stumbled across your post. i hope you did find answers to your questions eventually. i'm on my 3rd week of accutane and am experiencing the same ibs issues and am freaked out that i'm really messing up my body by taking the accutane. my doctor took down my dosage to every other day, but i'm leaning towards getting off of it completely. because i'm still having the symptoms.
Avatar m tn Maybe you should try to change your diet and life style. If you treat your skin too much it can react, so use just the necessary. Make sure you take enough vitamin C and omega 3.
Avatar n tn Accutane can also affect hair, lips, eyes, nose and vagina. Skin can be fragile for up to 6 months after finishing Accutane. However, it is very unusual to still be experiencing vaginal dryness after a year. Have you changed anything else, method of birth control for example? Using a fruit-flavored lubricant will make it feel more sexy and less clinical than using something like KY Jelly. Make an appointment with your doctor, as it is unusual for this problem to persist after stopping Accutane.

Avatar m tn m currently only 16 years and 8 months old and hence am still in the growing stage of my life. My dermatologist however has prescribed me a very low dosage of 10mg per day for 7 consecutive days, after which would be switching onto a 30mg PER WEEK dose. My body mass is currently 65kg and am significantly below the minimal dose of the suggested 0.5 mg/kg/day boundary. Will the dose of accutane I'm currently prescribed compromise the development and growth rate of my bones? Thanks in advance.
Avatar n tn However, this and other side effects wore off as my body got used to the medication. I had no side effects, except for dry lips, from 12 weeks onwards and took Accutane for 24 weeks. Side effects are generally dose related. Taking Accutane at the recommended dose for 16 to 24 weeks is your son's best hope of a long term remission from acne. The recommended dose is between 0.5 and 1mg x kg bodyweight per day. So your son should take between 30mg and 60mg per day because he weighs about 60kg.
Avatar f tn I feel for you so much. I took Accutane for FIVE DAYS over two months ago and it is STILL thinning out my skin. I am only 23. I will look like I am in my 40's in no time, and my eyes look sick. My eyelids are like tissue paper and I have never known such devastation in my life. I have had many suicidal thoughts. It is a disgrace that this drug is prescribed. The FDA is completely negligent.
Avatar f tn I'm 9 weeks pregnant and have always had bad skin aka oily and in need of dermatology intervention. I was on clindamicine(sorry about the spellings!) And tretinoin but they are no longer safe to use and I haven't been in touch with my dermatologist since I found out I was pregnant does anyone know of anything safe and effective to use on my face, it's breaking out awful and caking on make up isnt making things better. Thanks!
Avatar n tn ) and excess body hair in general and extremely oily skin. I know that there is definitely an underlying problem with this acne and facial hair and feel that hormones must be in play. I am on birth control, but even when I was off of it I have very regular periods so I don't think that I have PCOS. I am wondering if the hypothyroidism has anything to do with it? Any suggestions?
1155893 tn?1263018015 Well Ive now been on accutane for 5 months and I keep breaking out. I said in one of my earlier posts that my face was clearing up but now I broke out again and its back to being crap. Im suppose to be on accutane for 7 months (two months left to go). When I first started taking the medication my doc said it be gone by 3 months, max. But now 5 months later... its still not gone and on top of that I have these dark marks that the acne has left behind.
Avatar n tn Im really glad I found this site. I have been on Accutane for 2 month now and about 2 weeks ago my penis felt sore when it rubbed against my underwear. I looked at it and it was red on the tip of the inside and swollen slightly. I immedietly went to a doctor and was tested for every STD there was and all came back negative. My doctor game me an ointment and sent me home. To this date a week later the problem still exists. I went back to the Dr.
Avatar n tn Why do you wait a year to prescribe topical treatment after Accutane? What skin care regime do you recommend? Do you prescribe antibiotics if the Accutane doesn't perform well? It has been difficult to get rationale for Accutane treatment. Thank you for your advice...
