Abscess tooth extracted

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess tooth extracted

abscess

Your tooth probably was abcessed, and an abcessed tooth is never pulled until antibiotics have resolved the infection. Also, novacaine does no good with an abcess, if absolutely necessary to extract an abcessed tooth, then you must be put to sleep. So, you are correct, it was all pain you were feeling! Sounds like a lousy dentist you had!!!! Pain and odor is usually associated with infection. I would get another dentists opinion just to be on the safe side.
You need to go to the dentist,he will probally put you on anti-biotics and maybe pain relivers for a few days-then he will either save the tooth if he can or extract it,but this won't get better on it's own if it's abcessed.Since your face is swollen you need to go to a dentist right away asap.
Hi, I'm having a tooth extraction on Friday for an abscessed tooth (a bottom side molar) but have been reading that anaesthesia will not work if an abscess is still present. I was on a week's course of Amoxicillin but the abscess is still there which obviously means the medication did not work. I have had no pain from the abscess all throughout but am still worried that this will be a painful procedure because the abscess is still there. What shall I ask my dentist and what will I expect?
My adult son has a tooth that needs extracted. His insurance requires preauthorization (!?), so he saw a dentist and the request was submitted. In the meantime, he was prescribed 10 days of amoxicillin, which he did not take properly. It's been 2 weeks since his visit and his jaw and cheek and swollen and painful. He went to the ER, at his dentists suggestion, and was given ibuprofen and 500mg pencillin 4 x day, which we are monitoring, to be sure it gets taken.
i am having a rear upper tooth extracted tomorrow - the pain will be slightly less than I have had over the last two weeks - this has been flaring up and down since February, but the last episode meant that I looked like I had a golf ball tucked in my cheek - my left nostril was numb, my head was too sore to brush my hair or touch, my neck hurt when I moved my head, my ear was crackling - the nhs dentist refused to drain the abscess but gave me antibiotics, these didnt work and I had another cou
I did not go back and that was a year ago. Now the half tooth is abscessed. My face is so swollen its causing pressure in my eye ear and nose. Ive been on cephalexin for a bit more then 24 hrs now but the swelling and pain has not subsided at all. So my question is, when can i expect relief??? And is it because of me that my dentist couldn't remove the teeth? He said that he couldn't extract them because I was too nervous and basically he 'couldn't do his job'.
If that's the only option to keep the tooth, then I may have to opt for extracting it (and keeping my $1100 crown of course). Has anyone had a similar experience or can offer any advice? Thanks in advance, Jason.
I also wanted to add that I don't see any pus sack on my gums or cheek but there is some white stuff that looks like it could be an abscess inbetween my tooth and gums. The dentist hasn't seen me since my cheek swelled up and won't beable to until the 10th. thanks, again.
I looked on webmd, and the symptoms seemed to be that of a dental abscess. Do you agree? Is there anything I can do besides seeing a dentist? I don't have dental coverage, and I can't really afford anything extra right now. Please advise.
I had a tooth extracted two weeks ago, following a painful abscess. Antibiotics cleared up the infection but my dentist decided the tooth should be removed. It was a bottom tooth, second from the last one at the back. It has been healing up very well and generally I have no pain. However, I've noticed that when I exercise (I go to Zumba) I sometimes get a throbbing from where the tooth used to be and wondered if this is normal?
The healing process seems to be going fine, however, I'm concerned because the dentist didn't prescribe me with any antibiotics. I thought this was standard procedure when you get a tooth extracted because of an abscess? I'm concerned that he didn't clean out the wound and the abscessed area well enough and that I don't have any antibiotics to ensure that I don't get an infection. What are the symptoms of an infection from where a tooth was extracted?
I had an LVI princess crown on my tooth behind the extracted tooth which was pulled off during my extraction. Dentist put my crown back on then said due to the abscess the tooth should drain. My question is twofold after 2 weeks i(btw the 'clot' is in place over the hole') should my lips and jaw be swollen and should my LVI crown be missisfitting? LVI uses light to bond crowns - this dentist used a glue to re-bond my crown I am concerned that I may have an infection with the glue they used.
I went to the dentist recently with pain in my tooth he said it was an abscess tooth and started a root canal, that was very unsuccessful. My jaw swole , he changed my antibiotic to something stronger, but that did not good, so with three days left on the antibiotic he extracted the tooth yesterday but he did nothing about the abscess. My jaw is still swollen. Should he have done something with the pus or abscess?
It may have been a sinus infection, but the headache started once all of the congestion was GONE! The CAT scan showed an abscessed tooth on tooth #14 (upper left), same side that all my pain! So, I had that tooth and two upper wisdoms removed on Jan 23rd. A little history on #14. That tooth had a root canal done when i was in my teens (now 34). The abscess had been there for YEARS, as it would get a little pimple on the gum and would go away... I didn't realize the danger in that.
I had #19 tooth (had root canal 17 years ago) extraction yesterday due to the swollen gum (very bad infection). I decided to get an implant. So far, 3 dentists made 3 different suggestions. The first dentist said the implant should be done one the same day of the extraction. I did not listen to him because I do not feel comfortable to implant the base when the infection is not gone yet. The 2nd dentist said the implant can start one month from the extraction.
He said that he's got a tooth abscess in a healthy tooth and that the tooth should be extracted. He said it is unusual in cats and that they don't know the cause. He also suggested some antibiotics for a few days before the surgery to help with the infection. Just wondering if it is worth trying to save the tooth. Go through the course of antibiotics and see if he gets better. My vet made me feel like I was just being cheap and that conventional wisdom is to just remove the tooth.
Hi, I have a cracked tooth that developed an abscess. I originally posted on the question about swollen cheeks and abscesses, but I haven't had a response and my situation has changed, so I'm posting a new topic. I've been to two dentists and one endodontist this week. (I thought it best to go to a dentist on my insurance plan when I realized how expensive this would all be, which is why I went to the second dentist.) The tooth is cracked and dead. It has had no prior dental work.
The other day I experienced unbearable pain on said tooth and I feel like even my neck is swollen. I went to the dentist to ask if I could have that tooth extracted but she said that I had to take antibiotics for one week and then come back. What if the infection has spread far beyond my mouth? And how do I know if the anesthesia that will be used next week will actually work? Because I've heard of stories that an infection can cause immunity to anesthesia on the tooth area..
Will I still be able to get a root canal, or will the tooth have to be extracted? Currently, it's loose. I can touch it and see it move a little relative to the other teeth. But I assume that has something to do with the swollen gums/cheek? The swelling has finally started to go down now that it's been about 24 hours since starting the z-pak, but I'm worried as I would really prefer a root canal to extraction. Thoughts?
i too had an abscess,my tooth had to be extracted(it was the tooth that already had root canal treatment,i had cracked it) and was on 3 different antibiotics.it took me just over 2weeks to heal.
I have an abscessed tooth and last week I went to the dentist for the first time in years. My face was really REALLY swollen and after a CT scan I was prescribed antibiotics. I took the last one this morning after a 7 day dose and, although minimal, I still have some facial swelling. It is uncomfortable and I can feel it but it does not hurt. The dentist told me today that they are unable to help, I will need oral surgery to take the tooth out under GA.
cavities, fillings, more fillings, splitting teethBroken or knocked out tooth Toothaches, root canals, infections, gum disease, root scaling, extractions, bridges, implants, etc, until dentures. And that’s not the end... dental procedures cause aging. A pulled tooth can result in numb toes and leg cramps, an overdose of anesthesia can last for two weeks and cause stomach problems, physical imbalance, or more. Root canals and dental infections can affect heart rate.
