Abilify lose weight

Common Questions and Answers about Abilify lose weight

abilify

Avatar f tn And I took Abilify in the past. Abilify is the antipsychotic least likely to cause weight gain but it can happen. Fish oil is good but better is the anti-cholesterol medication Lovaza derived from it which is used experimentally for bipolar. As per weight loss, I'd go on a standard diet or if its of concern go to a nutrionist. Its probably from the Abilify and usually not a problem but you would still have to keep within a normal weight limit in a healthy manner.
Avatar n tn Im afraid I will gain weight rather than lose, but I am more active so I have hope I will lose more weight ( 30 yr old female 190 lbs. 5'5) Should I keep my hopes up to lose weight or is it to soon to say?
Avatar f tn Hi all, I am severely depressed & have been taking Prozac for a month now & my doc suggested Abilify to add. I had already put on 30lbs from lexapro, which is part of becoming depressed again. I have been on the Abilify for 6days now & can tell it is having a positive impact on me. I have had enough motivation to work out the past two days & I am really watching what I'm eating. Has anyone here had success with losing weight on Abilify & prozac?
Avatar f tn ( rapid weight gain Being wean off geodon from 80 twice a day now 40 twice a day. If I stop taking geodon will I be able to lose weight? Do serequel cause weight gain? (200 at bed time) It sure helps me sleep.Dr will replace geodon with Lamictal and tompamax. Thanks for any feed back.
Avatar n tn im taking abilify 2mg, adderal 30mg, and zoloft 100mg will i be able to lose weight
Avatar f tn Anyway, I would like to know if anyone out there has taken the combo of these two drugs, and if so, did you like it? Did they work well together? Did the Wellbutrin actually make you lose weight? Or did they just throw everything off balance? Any help is appreciated.
Avatar n tn t know if it was because it helped me feel better and I ate more, or just a side effect, but I did do a few things that actually helped me to lose weight while I was on it. First, the weight gain motivated me to look at how I eat, which was not good. I did nothing drastic except I decided to bring a lunch to work vs. go out more often. Then, I decided to join the gym and keep up with a regular exercise plan. I know it sounds overly simplistic, but it worked for me.
1700643 tn?1464846682 Thank u Annieinside.I went2my dr yesterday& asked about adding abilify(4me+my husband). She said yes it helps a lot but she will no longer prescribe it2people who dnt get it already because abilfy is apparently an anti -sicotic originally&thay make u gain weight(A lot&u cnt lose it).She said.she has1patient who cnt go w/out it.She weighed185 when she started taking it&I believe ahe said after2yrs the woman weighs over400lbs.
Avatar f tn I was supposed to start on 10 mg of Abilify, but my doctor decided to start me at 5 mg at night with the Cymbalta and Valium. I haven't noticed any changes except for extreme tiredness. I can't seem to get enough sleep. I know that the Abilify causes you to be sleepy, but most of the medications do that until they get in your system. I'm sure my doctor will increase the Abilify in the next two weeks.
918275 tn?1254068752 I started out on Risperdal and then was switched to Abilify, which seemed to slow the weight gain down, but I am continuing to gain weight which is very troubling to me. I have read alot about Topamax and it's weight loss side effect. I wonder if my psych would be willing to prescribe it for me since the weight gain is really putting a damper on my progress as far as happiness goes.
Avatar f tn I have been on Abilfy for about nine years and I have agined weight on it dont know how much exactly but my doctor told me that five pounds of my weight is the abilify but I read the posts on here and some people have gained excessive weight on it everyone is differnet this last time I went to the docotr I actually lost weight and my doctor told me that its difficult but not impossible to lose weight on Abilify.
Avatar f tn I can understand the weight gain. I gained 6lbs in 5 days when I increased my dose of risperdal. My psych put me on a med called Metfomin. It's technically for pre-diabetes, but it works by changing how your body uses and stores calories. It might be worth asking you p doc about it or a similar medication. It might mean that you'd be able to stay on your current medications, and stop gaining, and maybe start losing some of the weight.
Avatar f tn I am bipolar and have been on wellbutrin450mg, cymbalta 90mg, and lexapro 10 mg. I am also on respridal 1 mg to stablize my mood also xanax. They want to try Abilify but I am pre-diabetic and am afraid that would push me over the edge. I have no motivation and do nothing all day. I don't even know what I like when it comes to anything. I know I should exercisd, lose weight and get a life but I am stuck.
5032487 tn?1365824021 Lamictal is weight neutral, and is great for bipolar II, and packs most of its weight against depression. Geodon and Abilify are also supposed to be weight neutral, Geodon a little more so than Abilify. Trileptal is weight neutral as well, but its use in bipolar is technically off-label.
Avatar m tn I do know however that when I was on Zyprexa (which has the strongest potential of weight gain) I gained 35 pounds and that when I requested to be changed to another antipsychotic I was able to lose the weight but I had to make dietary changes. Abilify (along with Saphris and Fanapt) has the least likelihood of this potential but its still there.
Avatar f tn s a drug-induced weight gain, though, then something truly weight neutral will make you lose. Buspar might be a good place to go for long term anxiety control--it's got a low side effect profile, and plays well with bipolar in general. But seriously, you need to get the metabolic things checked out.
407790 tn?1397761026 ) I also take Lamictal (200 mg) and Topamax (200 mg), the latter mostly to help me lose the weight I gained on Pristiq (I quit that a month ago and started taking Cymbalta instead.) I also take Adderall because I have narcolepsy. I know, quite a cocktail. I have been on just about every AD there is for the past 20 years. I don't remember exactly when I was officially diagnosed with treatment-resistant depression…a few years ago?
Avatar m tn Zeldox (Geodone in the US) caused rapid weight lose for me. It was great at first - lost all the ziprexa weight. In the space of a year I was a size 2 and couldn't keep weight on. So we switched to Abilify. I am still slender but not nearly as bad.
Avatar f tn She says some of them have the opposite effect, meaning they have a tendency to lose weight. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated right about now. I really hate how I look and feel horribly depressed about it inside but I never let anyone know how I truely feel. Is it time to treat this depression?
Avatar n tn When I looked up weight gain and bipolar medications, Abilify was at the bottom of the list for weight gain, Geodon people gained the least then Abilify. I'm on 2mg. of Abilify and in the begining you tend to feel sleepy, that's why they start you on it at bedtime. I would be surprised if Abilify caused a racing heart but you definately have to tell your doc about that. I was also on Wellbutrin and had to come off because it caused to much anxiety.
1240654 tn?1268317515 Weight gain on Abilify is weird - it normally supresses appetite, Ive lost weight with Abilify as an adjunct but i guess it might work differently for other people. I like it, im only taking a smallish dose but it has smoothed out the depression and I feel more capable now.
Avatar n tn if it is a problem for you though they have came out with quite a few newer anti psych drugs ex latuda abilify which are recognized a having a weight gain side effect but from what i noticed about latuda is the opposite as for abilify i have never taken it.
Avatar n tn of depression meds as a mood stabilizer. I have read in many blogs about people gaining lots of weight when put on Abilify. I am terrifed of putting on weight as I feel that a med that would make me gain weight would just depress me even more as I would no longer feel good about myself; thus defeating the purpose. Can you please tell me what the likelyhood is of a person gaining weight on Abilify and some suggestions of other mood stabilizers that would not cause this side effect?
Avatar n tn I've taken Abilify for yrs. with no weight gain. I've taken Lamital for the last 2 yrs. with no weight gain for the 1st yrs & a 1/2. BUT, have had significant weight gain for the last 6 mths. I've had water weight for the last 6 mth's, but NO one holds that much water *L*. I am seriously in weight/water/gain for the last yr. I'd previously stayed at thhe same weight for 8 yrs with no problem. When I took Zyprexa I had gained 80 lbs though.
Avatar f tn I know that abilify helps you have an appetite and gain weight and my son is only 56lbs and 11yrs old...
Avatar f tn All antipsychotics CAN make you gain weight, but some are worse than others. Geodon is supposed to be weight neutral, and Abilify mostly weight neutral (won't make you gain or lose). Saphris has gotten a lot of good reviews in the weight department, and I believe Latuda has as well, but these are both still brand only, which might affect insurance coverage (and will affect cost). Unfortunately, there's no way to know for sure if a med will cause you problems without trying it first.
