We don’t know how it will affect you or your baby if you inhale the chemicals. To be on the safe side during pregnancy, try to stick with fake tans that you can apply by rubbing, not spraying. If you do want to use a spray, make sure the room is well aired. Also protect your eyes and lips with barrier cream or petroleum jelly.
412873 tn?1329174455 Sunless tanning products may contain anywhere between 1 to 15 percent DHA; the higher the DHA level, the darker the tan produced. Manufacturers of sunless tan products claim that DHA is a simple carbohydrate sugar solution but a toxicologist who investigated the harmful effects of tanning beds disagrees. Even the FDA has not approved the use of DHA in spray tan booths. The FDA previously approved the use of DHA as an ingredient in tanning products but strictly for topical application only.
467126 tn?1283144858 Pregnancy and tanning is always a touchy subject. Some salon owners don’t allow it, while others think it’s completely fine—in fact, many female salon owners say they tanned throughout their own pregnancies. What I hadn’t heard before was a question regarding the safety of sunless tanning while pregnant.
Avatar m tn Hello, According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective products available are sunless- or self-tanning lotions that contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. Another popular form of sunless tanning is the bronzer. These powders and moisturizers, once applied, create a tan that can easily be removed with soap and water. More like make-up, these products tint or stain your skin only until they are washed off.

5049711 tn?1364572195 Depends where you go, definitely ask a doctor but I know that the one by me uses a product that's purely a DHA protein so I'm assuming its not bad but I'm gonna ask my doc too cuz I'm a pasty mofo, but you can go in a tanning bed, if you go 3 times a week for no longer then 8 min your fine ( depending on the bed), if stick with the lower beds that produce more UVB rays ( the burning rays) because they produce more vitamin d which is essential for the baby, the only danger factor
Avatar f tn Just use a tanning lotion out of a bottle. Spray tans are dangerous because Drs don't know what inhaling the tanning solution will do to baby and tanning beds are extremely dangerous in pregnancy.
Avatar n tn I had it before. Somebody told me to go to the tanning bed a few times and it will go away. I am so against tanning beds now because I had to have 2 skin biopsies (both benign) which put a scare in me. I used to worship the sun and went to the tanning bed for special occasions. I will say though it did work and got rid of the rash.
Avatar f tn Im only 6weeks& 5 days, do you think its safe to use tanning beds. I have heard mixed opionions about it?
867582 tn?1311627397 Holick is a PhD as well as an MD (dermatologist/professor at Boston University). He advocates brief exposure to sunlight or tanning bed UVBs. Now I understand why my "ex" got melanoma even though he wore sunscreen. Until the 1990s, sunscreens only blocked UVB rays, allowing people to stay in the sun longer and be subject to unblocked UVA rays which are believed to be one of the causes of melanoma!!! Amazing what we didn't know then!! Enjoy!

476246 tn?1418870914 International cancer experts have moved tanning beds and ultraviolet radiation into the top cancer risk category, deeming both to be definite causes of cancer. For years, scientists have described tanning beds and ultraviolet radiation as "probable carcinogens." A new analysis of about 20 studies concludes the risk of skin cancer jumps by 75 percent when people start using tanning beds before age 30.

1047147 tn?1328906154 My RE prescribed prenatal vitamins and Expecta (DHA). The prenatal vitamins are free at most pharmacies and the Expectra is around $12/13. Your RE may have prescribed you a brand name one that doesn't have a generic? My pharmacist was helpful with trying to suggest alternatives that saved me money. Good luck!

Avatar f tn i don't remember my research on this fully, but i do recall that plant derived ALA's are not biologically equivalent to marine derived DHA. i take fish oil supplementation for DHA. the only concern there is impurities like mercury present in the fish oil - there are brands that make DHA capsules that have been purified for this purpose. some brands will even go as far to source their oils from the purest fish and highest standards, so that purification isn't even necessary.
Avatar f tn Does ur prenatal vitamins have dha? Is it ok to take them tablets with dha? The one i take doesn't have it but im trying to get gummies to substitute but all gummies seem to have dha.

Avatar f tn I have started Indoor Tanning for pain control for severe fibromyalgia and let me tell you all IT WORKS!!! I am on tons of meds, exercise etc. etc. but still have severe pain. The effects of the deep over all heat from the tanning lights last throughout most of day. It is wonderful. I know people say tanning is bad...but when you suffer every day w/ no relief the benefits outweigh the risks. I do 3x a week for 10-20 minutes. I am 58 years old.
