Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa vs seroquel

zyprexa

518117 tn?1429276273 Namaste, Explanation of the issues (and sequence of events) surrounding the lawsuits that claim that the use of Seroquel, Zyprexa and Risperdal caused health problems such as pancreatitis and diabetes and stroke. Zyprexa, like Risperdal and Seroquel, has been associated with serious side effects in patients, especially those who have already been diagnosed with diabetes.
520191 tn?1355635402 t want to come off it but i have the choice of going on venlfaxine or zyprexa so if i chose zyprexa would i have to come off the seroquel. I am being treated for bipolar at the moment mixed state. At the moment i am so confused my doc is changing all my meds round and trying new ones when i just want something that will work. my friend has concerns about the venlafaxine and says it could make my mixed state worse - i am also on lithium.
698408 tn?1256958348 If given a choice between an antipsychotic (Zyprexa) and a mood stabilizer (Depakoate) I would choose Depakoate. Zyprexa does have the risk of tardive dyskinesia. If a person needs an antipsychotic of course they have to take one but Depakoate does not have that risk. Zyprexa also has a severe risk for diabetes. All of the atypicals do but Zyprexa is most likely to.
Avatar f tn I am not sure if this is normal or if I should try maybe seroquel or go back on the zyprexa. My psychiatrist INSISTS I need the zyprexa, but i am not confident of our relationship and I feel he is just saying that to get me out of his office. Any advice?
874521 tn?1424116797 Hi Opus88 I hundred per cent agree with IL. I hate zyprexa, although an atypical AP and very strong MS but very sedating. I read they give it as a strong mood stabilizer too but it will make him tired. Depakote (valporate) is good for mania rather than depression. The meds given will not elevate him up on the contrary will make him slip down, as a matter of fact i would be astonished if it didn't. BP is a physical mood swings.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have tried a number of medications at different times, usually a combination of 2 or 3 of the following: lithium, prozac, lexapro, seroquel, abilify, risperdal, klonopin, vistaril, zyprexa, ambien, rozerem, & depakote. Zyprexa, Benadryl, Depakote, and Seroquel have caused me to twitch and feel like my skin is crawling an hour (or a few) after I take them.
574118 tn?1305135284 After two months on a low dose of Zyprexa, I started to experience akathisia. More Zyprexa made it worse. Next, I tried Seroquel and it caused akathisia, too. Further, depakote does the same thing""" Now I wonder for this bloody bipolarity how can one resolve the issue of meds. If you give one med up due to its side effects, then by substituting another one you get another worse side efect.
Avatar f tn Is there any other meds that have the same ability to control the reasons that zyprexa is prescribed for as it is very expensive and I am afraid it could cause a patient to discontinue taking it.
Avatar m tn I'm prescribed Zyprexa in the "Zydis" rapid-dissolve form, 5mg, as needed "for agitation". I'm bi-polar, and sometimes I get worked up to a state that is more frustrated & agitated than it is manic, per se, The Zyprexa works well for this, except for its notorious weight-gain side effects. I just can't handle the weight issues.
1623698 tn?1299161234 How long does it take and how do I reduce the amount? I've been changed from Zyprexa to Seroquel because my depression came back. Within days I was extremely dizzy and nauseous and I concluded that it was withdrawal from Zyprexa so the Psychiatrist said to go back on it. Two months later, when I was feeling better, we tried it again but the same thing happened. By this time I was being told that I had an inner ear problem or it was caused by the new med.
Avatar f tn I have been to see pdoc today after having a bit of a wobble following 2 months off medication (did not go cold turkey, did it over 3 months). She has prescribed me Zyprexa but I am really scared about taking it, I really don't want to gain weight - I am still trying to lose the weight I gained on Depakote.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking 3.75mg zyprexa, 50mg Topimax, 300mg Seroquel, and 350mg Trileptal at nightime. I take 300mg Lamictal and 350mg Trileptal every morning. I sleep all night, and want to sleep more. I've had bloodwork done the past few months and my thyroid always comes back alright. I see my counselor every other week, but it is really difficult to get a work in appointment with my psychiatrist. He's always booked for the next 3 months and it's very frustrating for me.
Avatar f tn Seroquel is one of the 'atypical antipsychotics' that came out about ten years ago. They were first used for serious mental illness like schizophrenia, and then for bipolar disorder, and then for the thing we 'call' bipolar in children, that really isn't bipolar disorder.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I have tried Seroquel, Seroquel XR, Zyprexa, and Lithium, all in the space of a few weeks... I thought that they were causing me to cycle harder, but I have realized that I am getting the akathisia side effect from them.. When the sun is down, they bring up my mood, but when it's bright out, I get very agitated.. All of these drugs have this side effect as they work on dopamine. I am at a loss right now; has anyone else had this problem? I am slowly running out of medications...
Avatar m tn I cannot remain on anything that makes me as tired as zyprexa or seroquel anymore, it’s not helping with the major depression.
874521 tn?1424116797 incidentally why does he need 100mg seroquel. who decided this? I take 25mg seroquel only and probably i am older than your son. Again zyprexa and seroquel are both atypical antipsychotics so why combining both?. the therapeutic dose of seroquel is 400 and the max dose of zyprexa i remember 20 if i am not mistaken and the minimum is 5. the valporate dose is 750-1500. still who can tell which is which except a pdoc ONLY.
1985196 tn?1402190098 I took it for a while and was surprised at how quick it worked. There were aspects of it that made me stop taking it but it was mostly just that I couldn't really tolerate it with the Seroquel. I decided to let it go instead of the Seroquel. It is a great medicine though for most and I am glad that it is improving the quality of your life. Are you still going to stay on a low dose of Seroquel or ccome off of it completely?
574118 tn?1305135284 50mg seroquel, 1mg risperidone, 1mg stellazin (typical antipsychotic) my last mania 4 years ago. I extinguished it by 300 seroquel. After which I kept reducing seroquel dose, until a month ago succeed till 50. Perhaps at this dose no antidepressant effect of it. Perhaps should be higher than that. Already I am BPII so depression is my problem.
Avatar f tn I bit the bullet and decided to start my Zyprexa last night, OMG I wish I hadn't. I'm only on a very low start dose of 2.5mg but I had the following side effects: Tingling of mouth and tongue, dry tongue but watering mouth, runny nose and a feeling as though my throat was closing, weakness of legs and weird breathing - breathing was really slow. This morning my tongue is still tingly and my throat is swollen.
Avatar f tn All antipsychotics CAN make you gain weight, but some are worse than others. Geodon is supposed to be weight neutral, and Abilify mostly weight neutral (won't make you gain or lose). Saphris has gotten a lot of good reviews in the weight department, and I believe Latuda has as well, but these are both still brand only, which might affect insurance coverage (and will affect cost). Unfortunately, there's no way to know for sure if a med will cause you problems without trying it first.
Avatar f tn I started 5 Mgs of zyprexa about 5 days ago for psychosis, mostly "ideas of reference" the zyprexa is now added to my seroquel since I weaned off invega. So far, I am having less ideas of reference but not totally gone. Didn't expect a miracle in taking it less than a week. Can anyone please let me know their experience with zyprexa. How long it took to work and how it helped you. I would appreciate any advice and information on it.
Avatar m tn • Other antidepressants- Wellbutrin (made me angry), Anafranil (Helped control obsessive thinking), Cymbalta (no effect), Strattera (no effect) • Antipsychotics- Zyprexa (works slightly, weight gain), Seroquel (doped me up, no help otherwise), Risperdal (no effect), Abilify (made me jittery, helped depression), Latuda (combined with zyprexa, no effect), Lithium (no effect except a rash), Geodon (slight effect, less than Zyprexa) • Benzos- Valium, Librium (anger), Xanax, Klonopin (doped me up),
1806584 tn?1316208037 I want it for a bit more clarity on what meds I am actually on. And seeing how seroquel and zyprexa got a place, this probably is possible, right?
