Zyprexa vs saphris

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa vs saphris

zyprexa

1623698 tn?1299161234 How long does it take and how do I reduce the amount? I've been changed from Zyprexa to Seroquel because my depression came back. Within days I was extremely dizzy and nauseous and I concluded that it was withdrawal from Zyprexa so the Psychiatrist said to go back on it. Two months later, when I was feeling better, we tried it again but the same thing happened. By this time I was being told that I had an inner ear problem or it was caused by the new med.
Avatar f tn Yes Zyprexa was extremely sedating for me. I slept 10 hours a day on it. Out of all the antipsychotics Abilify, Fanapt and Saphris are generally the least sedating but each person responds differently to each medication.
Avatar f tn All antipsychotics CAN make you gain weight, but some are worse than others. Geodon is supposed to be weight neutral, and Abilify mostly weight neutral (won't make you gain or lose). Saphris has gotten a lot of good reviews in the weight department, and I believe Latuda has as well, but these are both still brand only, which might affect insurance coverage (and will affect cost). Unfortunately, there's no way to know for sure if a med will cause you problems without trying it first.
Avatar f tn My psychiatrist suggested I take either Lamictal, Saphris or Seroquel and he gave me some brochures to read before i make a decision. He has never told me what type of bipolar he thinks i have he just always says "Bipolar spectrum disorder". From those medications are you able to tell how severe or what type (1 or 2) I have?
1052851 tn?1307741160 true ziprazidone (geodon) is an atypical AP but not to be confused with olanzapine (zyprexa). The latter put tremendous weight gain but very potent.
628714 tn?1268238196 Hi Zyprexa (generic Olanzapine) is an atypical antipsychotic medication. Zyprexa is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression). The most commonly reported side effects are sleepiness or excessive sleeping, dizziness, dry mouth and weight gain. Other side effects include akathisia (an inability to sit still), constipation, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension and tremors.
Avatar m tn 5 was just wondering.......because I feel so mentally down, some depression, crazy thoughts, mind racing over things that worry me. I cant seem to control my thoughts from going there. I feel sad alot. At this point I just dont know. Well anyhow about 2-3 wks ago,in the midst of withdrawal, I did go see my doc, I did not tell him I was in withdrawal this time, I did tell him once last year, that was when I got clean for just about a year.
Avatar m tn I do know however that when I was on Zyprexa (which has the strongest potential of weight gain) I gained 35 pounds and that when I requested to be changed to another antipsychotic I was able to lose the weight but I had to make dietary changes. Abilify (along with Saphris and Fanapt) has the least likelihood of this potential but its still there.
Avatar f tn Well site members can't give medical reccomendations but as I remember Zyprexa was very sedating (the other ingredient in that medication is Prozac).
4998202 tn?1362222175 I will begin taking Saphris tonight and I was just curious if it could cause sleepwalking.. My doctor is putting me on this medication because I am unable to sleep but maybe 3 hours a night.. I had legionairre's disease in 2011 and since then I have had major problems with lack of sleep..
2064758 tn?1331299797 The older (typical) antipsychotics from Thorazine to Haldol can often be more difficult to tolerate than the newer atypicals (Risperdal to Abilify, Saphris and Fanapt) although each person responds differently to each medication. I found them to be more effective as do many people but each individual is different. The atypicals have less of a concern for causing long term movement disorders such as tardive dyskinesia but more of a potential for causing diabetes and weight gain.
Avatar n tn is anyone on saphris? my pdoc changed me from seroquel and abilify to this new med, which i start tonight. the other 2 was causing my blood sugar and pressure to start going up. i felt fine taking this combo but don't want to take 2 more meds for blood sugar and blood pressure.
Avatar f tn I realize the underlying issue is depression/coping. Today I saw a NP and was prescribed Saphris 5mg SL every night and started on Lamictal with a tapering increase in dose over the next month. Im not comfortable with the Saphris though,,,its an "atypical antipsychotic" and used for people with Bipolar I disorder and schizophrenia????? Any suggestions,,I am trying to listen to the psych people as they know best,,so I will take as prescibed for now.
5790942 tn?1374334321 Do some research on it before you start taking it and really weigh the benefit vs. risk. (Always a very good idea when starting a new drug.) I hope that you are able to feel better soon. Remember that there is no magic cure for opiate withdrawls. We just have to go through it. If you decide to pass on this drug and go the natural route, let us know. There are all kinds of vitamins, supplements , and just little 'tricks' that can help ease your suffering some. Best of luck to you!
1772374 tn?1326246237 So i have given up on Saphris for wise reasons. The Saphris gave me restless leg/arm syndrome last night, today; clearer thinking while at the same time negative and maybe paranoid, and some random 1-minute spells of agression. Back to SSRIs with me! I feel like i've played this game forever, there must be so much money in psychological medications.
202665 tn?1248806733 No but I gained 35 pounds on Zyprexa and asked to be changed to another antipsychotic because I knew what it could lead to (Zyprexa is the anti-psychotic known to cause diabetes the most). If severe weight gain occurs a person should speak to their psychiatrist. If a person is in the early stages of pre-diabetes with proper dietary changes as well as treatment that can be reversed.
Business woman1 More specifically, Cymbalta (120 mg) and Saphris 30 mg. I was removed off of saphris last october, and was put on wellbutrin 150mg and had a TERRIBLE reaction to it. now think I am experiencing side effects that (in my opinion) appear to look like adrenal problems (fatigue, unneccesary anxiety, muscle spasms/twitching, problems walkng, craving sugars etc.
Avatar f tn I literally have pitting edema in both my legs from the knee down. I had ran out of seroquel and took saphris in between and the swelling went away some but now I restarted the Seroquel and my ankles look like cankles...
Avatar m tn My son is stopping zyprexa because he said it has never helped his depression. He is on 2.5 mg a day. He went off each pill one week at a time because he gets dangerous withdrawl symptomsms. He is off a pill on friday, saturday and monday. He is still on the 2.5 mg of zyprexa on tuesday, wednesday, thursday and sunday. Which would be the next pill to get off of? The program he is on refuses to take him off the medicine now and he went to the hospital to get off it.
Avatar m tn I was on Lexapro then to citalopram because of costs, added effexor and still had such horrific depression I wouldn't get out of bed for days. Then I started on 5mg saphris twice a day. At first I felt great but a little too high, so went from 80 mg citalopram to 40 mg a day.
Avatar n tn my dr changed me from abilify and serquel to trazone and saphris. i was ok for about 3 days then started to feel sick, nausa chills muscle aches ect ect. i don't think it was a virus. but my question----can you have withdraws going of one type of meds and going on another that is simalar. i think going off serquel cold turkey and abilify is what did me in or maybe side effects from the new meds. i took the old meds yesterday and not the new ones and already feel better.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
Avatar m tn There is Abilify of course and a new antipsychotic Saphris was just FDA approved (note it works like all current antipsychotics, the next generation ones I've posted about are years off): http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm177401.
Avatar m tn Can anyone give me some info. on zyprexa? Has anyone been given this to help stabalize their mood, during withdrawal? If so, please share with me if you benefited from this, and is this addictive as well?
Avatar f tn Hi, I am experiencing burning feet, skin sensitivity and pains in my hands and feet during Zyprexa withdrawal,I`ve been on Zyprexa for 6 years and off it for about 5 months now. Please let me know if the burning feet and all other symptoms will go away with time? 739988 tn?1386672969 I have been on BP meds for several years. About a year ago I was diagnosed as diabetic. I've heard that the zyprexa and others like it can cause high blood sugar. Diabetes also runs on both sides of my family. Are there any mood stabilizers out there that don't cause Diabetes? I like the Zyprexa because it works really well for me. I guess I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there like me?
