2064758 tn?1331299797 why do they treat bi-polar with Thorazine or haldol? Are they trying to knock the person out, so that their brain heals? I have a 24 yr. old son who is in the midst of a psychotic episode. He believes that he controls all t'v.'s & electronic media. we just put him on haldol, how long does it take before he can get on some other medication?
Avatar f tn Is there any other meds that have the same ability to control the reasons that zyprexa is prescribed for as it is very expensive and I am afraid it could cause a patient to discontinue taking it.
Avatar m tn I've been dealing with bipolar disorder since 2012 and I've gone through 4 hospitalizations due to the manic/psychotic breaks. I've also suffered a few milder hypomanias during last 6 years but I feel exhausted ALL the time I'm not in a mania. I could sleep for hours and still feel extremely tired. It's gone as far as I am calling sick from time to time because I literally am not capable of getting out of bed.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry, but you absolutely have to be out of your mind to play doctor on your friend with Haldol. The fact that she's on Zyprexa shows that she's been diagnosed as having schizophrenia. That's a diagnosis left to a psychiatrist, not "friends". You can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. Dosing her with Haldol will only lead you to jail. If she becomes violent or you fear for her life, call 911. And, by the way, in most states...
874521 tn?1424116797 Zyprexa is still on the market. There was just a concern at the time that the company under reported the rate at which it causes diabetes. That issue has been addressed. All atypical antipsychotics can cause diabetes, Zyprexa being the one with the greatest potential.
Avatar m tn continuing previous conversation Medications because their conditions warrant it and keep in mind their history and how they present. If I followed what you are saying, I would ask for no ativan to be given with propofol or any potentially addictive medication for pain medication during and after surgery. In the hospital I worked in, a good many of the patients come in with some sort of drug dependency and a whole lot with some form of mental illness.
628714 tn?1268238196 Hi Zyprexa (generic Olanzapine) is an atypical antipsychotic medication. Zyprexa is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression). Other side effects include akathisia (an inability to sit still), constipation, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension and tremors.
Avatar f tn soft wrist restraints may be used to prevent pulling intravenous catheters and drains. Medications such as Seroquel, Zyprexa, and Haldol are frequently used to calm your brain and restore clear thinking.

Avatar f tn t know her prior condition and I do not know if she woke up like this before the haldol, or if the haldol is having an accute effect on her. Anyone know about Haldol for sedation for MRI in stroke patients? How long it can last?
Avatar m tn Hello! I receive a 100 mg injection of haldol decanoate on July 27th and I've been dealing with an uncomfortable side effect for the past two months. I get this staring problem where I fixate on small details around me and I can't look away. Like I'll stare at the taillights of the car in front of me or the specks of herbs in my food. And when I try to close my eyes, my eyelids flutter rapidly and I see flashes. And my eyelashes scratch my eyeballs.
5790942 tn?1374334321 Do some research on it before you start taking it and really weigh the benefit vs. risk. (Always a very good idea when starting a new drug.) I hope that you are able to feel better soon. Remember that there is no magic cure for opiate withdrawls. We just have to go through it. If you decide to pass on this drug and go the natural route, let us know. There are all kinds of vitamins, supplements , and just little 'tricks' that can help ease your suffering some. Best of luck to you!
Avatar f tn I was wondering should Haldol be used for detox or for treating withdrawals? Especially since Haldol stays in the system and has long term side-effects?
518117 tn?1429276273 The psychiatrist that treated Todd in the hospital prescribed him Haldol, Lithium and Trazodone upon release. I am really concerned about this combo of meds, as Todd is acting very odd. Seems overly medicated to me. He is scooting his feet, rather than picking them up while walking. I call it the hospital shuffle, as I have seen people in hospitals do this when overly medicated. He just sits and says very little. Almost like in a trance.
1618236 tn?1408072214 I am currently taking Haldol 0.5 mg twice a day, Trazodone 50 mg and Doxepin 50 mg for my anxiety and depression symptoms, can you please tell me if these are all okay to take together and am I suppose to take these with food or milk? Is Haldol a dangerous drug combined with the other two medications?
Avatar m tn My son is stopping zyprexa because he said it has never helped his depression. He is on 2.5 mg a day. He went off each pill one week at a time because he gets dangerous withdrawl symptomsms. He is off a pill on friday, saturday and monday. He is still on the 2.5 mg of zyprexa on tuesday, wednesday, thursday and sunday. Which would be the next pill to get off of? The program he is on refuses to take him off the medicine now and he went to the hospital to get off it.
3058980 tn?1340515938 Risperal is know for breasts growing, and I even started to lactate. Yikes. That was a deal breaker. I think (not 100% sure) all of the antipsychotics can do that but risperadol is the worst by far and away. So that is why he probably went with an older med. I have never heard of anyone having breast issues with Haldol so I think that side effect is a lot rarer. Mind you Haldol isn't used that much and usually not used long term anymore so that could be why I haven't encountered it.
100309 tn?1328041299 Was it Haldol? Haldol is an anti-psychotic and Reglan (an anti-nausea) is also in the anti-psychotic family. I was given Reglan a long time ago because I had a CSF leak from a LP, I was in severe pain and the Reglan made me FREAK out! I have heard of some ER docs giving IV Haldol for HA, although it does cause some pretty bad adverse side effects! UGH, I can sympathize with you.. After they gave me that Reglan, it felt like I was going to have a heart attack. I was anxious times a million.
Avatar m tn Hi~~ It's diazepam/Valium and then he was on Haldol !! OMG..Haldol is used to treat psychosis. Poor baby had some troubles... V.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
Avatar m tn Can anyone give me some info. on zyprexa? Has anyone been given this to help stabalize their mood, during withdrawal? If so, please share with me if you benefited from this, and is this addictive as well?

739988 tn?1386672969 I have been on BP meds for several years. About a year ago I was diagnosed as diabetic. I've heard that the zyprexa and others like it can cause high blood sugar. Diabetes also runs on both sides of my family. Are there any mood stabilizers out there that don't cause Diabetes? I like the Zyprexa because it works really well for me. I guess I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there like me?
559058 tn?1215810834 I'm bp, been on Zyprexa for 5 yrs off and on, gained weight of course, and know that it has tons of other side effects. But I know Depakote is not without side effects either -- like constipation, liver damager etc. What's worse? Plus, I know it causes weight gain also. What do you guys think? Thanks!
