Zyprexa vs clozaril

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa vs clozaril

zyprexa

1030383 tn?1338460785 My psychiatrist wants to put me back on Clozaril, and I hate the TD so much that I might, but Clozaril made me incontinent for four years, and sedated me so much that I couldn't keep my balance if I got up at night and it's just dumb luck I never had a bad fall. Those are just the big side effects! Does ANYONE know ANYTHING that would help in a movement disorder like this???
Avatar f tn However, for myself (not something you have of course) in having schizoaffective disorder I needed an antipsychotic and all of them except for Clozaril (which causes blood dyscreias and needs constant bloodwork and can be dangerous and something I couldn't tolerate) can cause it. I think I would have not been able to recover if I hadn't taken an antipsychotic all these years though I wish they had caught up with the tardive in time before it progressed this far.
628714 tn?1268238196 Hi Zyprexa (generic Olanzapine) is an atypical antipsychotic medication. Zyprexa is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression). The most commonly reported side effects are sleepiness or excessive sleeping, dizziness, dry mouth and weight gain. Other side effects include akathisia (an inability to sit still), constipation, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension and tremors.
574118 tn?1305135284 After two months on a low dose of Zyprexa, I started to experience akathisia. More Zyprexa made it worse. Next, I tried Seroquel and it caused akathisia, too. Further, depakote does the same thing""" Now I wonder for this bloody bipolarity how can one resolve the issue of meds. If you give one med up due to its side effects, then by substituting another one you get another worse side efect.
Avatar n tn Well I can say for myself that I'd be concerned taking more than one anti-psychotic at a time. That's how I developed severe tardive dyskinesia to begin with which the rate of developing it as my psychopharmocologist stated "with typicals 5% per person per year and atypical antipsychotics 2.5% per person per year". Every antipsychotic you are one are atypical antipsychotics but I would see no reason you should be on more than one.
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have tried a number of medications at different times, usually a combination of 2 or 3 of the following: lithium, prozac, lexapro, seroquel, abilify, risperdal, klonopin, vistaril, zyprexa, ambien, rozerem, & depakote. Zyprexa, Benadryl, Depakote, and Seroquel have caused me to twitch and feel like my skin is crawling an hour (or a few) after I take them.
5790942 tn?1374334321 Do some research on it before you start taking it and really weigh the benefit vs. risk. (Always a very good idea when starting a new drug.) I hope that you are able to feel better soon. Remember that there is no magic cure for opiate withdrawls. We just have to go through it. If you decide to pass on this drug and go the natural route, let us know. There are all kinds of vitamins, supplements , and just little 'tricks' that can help ease your suffering some. Best of luck to you!
Avatar f tn Clozaril can cause a person to wet their bed as an occasional side effect. If this started occurring after he took Clozaril and didn't occur before that then this should be discussed with his psychiatrist. If this happened before then as the other post mentioned poor hygiene can be part of what are called the negative symptoms (trouble relating to people and society in general and taking care of oneself at times) of schizophrenia but this should be discussed with his psychiatrist.
1030383 tn?1338460785 I'd say perhaps the mood stabilizer you are on might not be working. As for tardive dyskinesia it can be stigmatizing and socially isolating. That is one reason I am homebound (which is also physically neccessary although I am seeking accomodations and supports to go out more). Clozaril is the only antipsychotic that won't worsen tardive while masking it. I would think your psychiatrist has transfered you to Clozaril. That can be quite sedating.
Avatar n tn Antipsychotics will all cause tardive dyskinesia and put a person at risk for diabetes and Zyprexa is the prime offender for diabetes. But when Zyprexa worsened my paranoia years ago and it happenned to a friend of mine I knew what was going on. But that's not a "common" side effect. As for "safe" we should be factual.
Avatar f tn Her neurologist wants her to get off the Geodon and onto Clozaril. Her psychiatrist has been slowly weaning her off the Geodon and slowly increasing the Clozaril. She also takes Klonopin for the jaw movements. He also added Cymbalta for depression. When she was on the Geodon, she functioned well, worked, was pretty stable and didn’t need an antidepressant. She is having a hard time with this transition (it's been a couple months now).
Avatar m tn Yes the use of antipsychotics is clinically complex in people with developmental disabilities but they are sometimes needed to treat a secondary psychiatric disability which is what you are describing. Clozaril is not used as often (although it is highly effective) as it would be because of the potential of blood dyscreias.
Avatar m tn My son is stopping zyprexa because he said it has never helped his depression. He is on 2.5 mg a day. He went off each pill one week at a time because he gets dangerous withdrawl symptomsms. He is off a pill on friday, saturday and monday. He is still on the 2.5 mg of zyprexa on tuesday, wednesday, thursday and sunday. Which would be the next pill to get off of? The program he is on refuses to take him off the medicine now and he went to the hospital to get off it.
222267 tn?1253302210 I believe we are seeing this huge TREND in Bipolar diagnosis these days. I would say in the last 10 years. People are being improperly diagnosed and it's sad to think people are on medications that could potentially harm them. In the 90's it was ADD or ADHD. Did you know that Zyprexa kills 1 in 125 people? Wow! That is astonishing to me. The fact that the FDA knew about this and approved it, is horrible to say the least.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
Avatar m tn Can anyone give me some info. on zyprexa? Has anyone been given this to help stabalize their mood, during withdrawal? If so, please share with me if you benefited from this, and is this addictive as well?
Avatar n tn The antipsychotics most likely to cause this are Clozaril and Zyprexa. The least is Abilify though of course it can and does happen. Diet regulation is the key. As I've posted that will not be a problem with the next generation antipsychotics because they are more specifically targeted to the receptors they need to work on.
Avatar f tn Hi, I am experiencing burning feet, skin sensitivity and pains in my hands and feet during Zyprexa withdrawal,I`ve been on Zyprexa for 6 years and off it for about 5 months now. Please let me know if the burning feet and all other symptoms will go away with time? Has anyone quit Zyprexa successfully? Please help with any information, many thanks!!
739988 tn?1386672969 I have been on BP meds for several years. About a year ago I was diagnosed as diabetic. I've heard that the zyprexa and others like it can cause high blood sugar. Diabetes also runs on both sides of my family. Are there any mood stabilizers out there that don't cause Diabetes? I like the Zyprexa because it works really well for me. I guess I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there like me?
Avatar f tn t work is usually treated with Clozaril. Of course your father may been given ECT before Clozaril existed or not responded to Clozaril or been ruled out as a candidate for it because of its severe side effects. As for people who have treatment refractory schizophrenia who don't respond to Clozaril I know about them. I am one. I was started on the experimental antipsychotic glycine in FDA study and I am documented as having made a full recovery.
Avatar n tn t work well), Risperadol, Seroquel, Ziprexa (you gain weight just looking at this drug), Clozaril. I think that is the list, but I feel like I am missing one. I've been on all of them except Abilify and Clozaril (which isn't used as much because it has a freaky white blood cell side effect) as it has just recently become available in Canada. All of them give me side effects but the Geodone (Zeldox here in Canada) has the least side effects of the bunch so I take it.
Avatar n tn If it were me I would get off the lithium I was on it when first diagnosed with Bi poalr and I hated it for the very reason you stated. I now take celexa and zyprexa now for 7 years and I do great on them. I take them at night and they help lots to regulate my sleep as wellNow if I just didnt have to get up to go pee.LOL talk to your doc about changing your meds. good luck and let me know how it goes for you.
