Zyprexa uses and side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa uses and side effects

zyprexa

Avatar n tn I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
Avatar f tn Well back to your question I went off cold turkey since I was done with the horrible side effects and just figured out this was way to heavy of a drug and not necessary since I was never bi polar or schizophrenic. I was on it for about 2 years and I am sorry to tell you this but coming off it was the worst experience of my life. It was 3 months of hell and general thought is it takes 3-5 months to come back to normal off these drugs.
559058 tn?1215810834 I dont have any bad side effects and even my sex life is great. For me the zyprexa is so much better. I think depakote andlithium should be take off the market. But again thait is my opinion. There are much better meds out there than those two.
874521 tn?1424116797 It should be noted the NMDA receptor modulates antipsychotics which are in Phase II FDA study will cause neither side effect and the company developed Zyprexa is researching a medication in that class. Its good to know the short term and long term side effect profile of any medications but the lawsuits that are on television or other places tend to overstate long term side effects for their potential gain.
3136619 tn?1345387321 I am wondering if anyone has tried Zydis. I haven't heard much about it on these boards. I've gained enough weight on regular Zyprexa and wonder if anyone has had fewer side effects with Zydis.
628714 tn?1268238196 The most commonly reported side effects are sleepiness or excessive sleeping, dizziness, dry mouth and weight gain. Other side effects include akathisia (an inability to sit still), constipation, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension and tremors. The yawning you experience is also a rare side effect reported with Zyprexa. (Ref: http://bipolar.about.com/cs/zyprexa/a/meds_zyprexa.
1082697 tn?1260064616 This does not mean that you will experience all of the side effects listed. Everyone is different and therefore patients may have different side effects with the same drug. A drug may have a side effect that occurs in me that you do not experience. This drug is safe and it seems that you are tolerating the drug well.
1257808 tn?1322762215 Please read all side effects on the meds you take. Always go with the lowest dose that works for you. Many pdoc's just randomly increase a med for no reason at all, disregarding that the lower dose works. The more of a med you take, the more chance of side effects. That's not to say you won't get any side effects on any dosage. Hope this is helpful.
Avatar n tn i was on zyprexa for 2 weeks and i made the decision to stop it because the side effects were awful. tired and nervous at the same time, plus i gained 11 pounds in two weeks. i find that although i may have periods of hypomania, it is not enough to warrant being on meds for mania. most of them are very strong and the side effects are even worse in the long run.
Avatar m tn The dose you took is relatively small, but it can still cause side-effects and withdrawal effects. Did your doctor prescribe this to you? If you are having trouble sleeping, there are many other techniques and medications that can be used.
Avatar m tn My son on lithium and zyprexa wich one can course short term memory problems and problems focusing on tasks such as scoolworkorreading any body ever took this two drugs toghether?????
Avatar m tn In this case a google search for haloperidol and zyprexa can give you information on both drugs and how they work and their side effects so when your brother sees his doctor he can ask the right questions.
Avatar f tn Metformim is a medication used to control or prevent the onset of diabetes and/or regulate blood sugar and this is how it helps with these potential side effects of Zyprexa but you could discuss the specifics with your psychiatrist. What you describe are potential side effects of concern from Metformim so you should inform your psychiatrist.
616450 tn?1228433627 I've been taking Zyprexa at bedtime for the past few nights, per Endo #3, and I feel a lot better, folks. As a matter of fact, I felt better almost immediately after taking the first dose. It seems to act quick, like Xanax, but stays in the bloodstream longer or something. Dr. Pretorius was concerned that I was getting a little too used to Xanax, so he wants me to try to gradually come off of that and he'll increase the Zyprexa dosage.
Avatar m tn Hi I would like to know if after three years of taking low doses of sertraline 25 mg and 2.5 mg of Zyprexa the nausea and dizziness I feel can be due to the discontinuation of the meds. I was prescribed due to a depresion an chronic anxiety conduct. I also experience a bbit of tingling in my hands and feet that goes on and off switching around.
Avatar m tn t stop taking your lamotrigine unless you talk to the pdoc first, just saying these are listed side effects. Lamotrigine is a really good drug for bipolar and side effects usually wane after a few months. Since you were only on Ziprexa for 4 months, chances are really minimal that any permanent damage was done. If you are not having movement related issues - smacking lips, drooling, etc. it shouldn't be anything permanent.
Avatar f tn The dosage suggestions given to you are correct. the side effects are;The most common side effects for patients taking GEODON for bipolar mania include sleepiness, abnormal muscle movements (such as tremors, shuffling, and uncontrolled movement), dizziness, and restlessness. If there is any heart rhythym problem, this could be a dangerous drug for your son.
Avatar f tn I suggested to you a few months ago to find a Psychaitric Medication Manager to help you with your meds and side effects and to encourage you to stay on meds long enough to see if they will help you. Just a few days ago, Ryan responded to your post and I've included a link to that post. I think you should take a few minutes and read it again. http://www.medhelp.
Avatar n tn I took Ativan and Zyprexa together along with Lexapro with no problems other than being a zombie and fattening up my body to 116lbs--which is half of my two pregnancy weights. So--I got off the Zyprexa and now take Lexapro and Ativan (2mg) as needed. I really hated Zyprexa--it made me have a Turtle Brain....
Avatar f tn Hi, I am experiencing burning feet, skin sensitivity and pains in my hands and feet during Zyprexa withdrawal,I`ve been on Zyprexa for 6 years and off it for about 5 months now. Please let me know if the burning feet and all other symptoms will go away with time? Has anyone quit Zyprexa successfully? Please help with any information, many thanks!!
1134609 tn?1269272200 Seroquel and Zyprexa both being antipsychotics can easily cause akathesia which can be treated with a side effect pill. Lithium on its own does not effect dopamine so it can't cause akathesia but since it raises the blood level of an antipsychotic it can worsen the effect of akathesia.
1257808 tn?1322762215 If your concerned about weight it is really important for you to look up the side effects of a med before you choose to take it or not. There are meds that are weight neutral. It's a shame so many dr's don't take that into consideration when prescribing these drugs. They don't have to carry the weight, we do! I will not take a drug that is weight gaining no matter what. I am of normal size and have no intention of becoming overweight.
Avatar m tn YES! i went through this and i thought i was the only one. funny thing, i just read this on my about com newsletter and they were talking about it, and was saying that people with higher bmi's makes it less effective. and i wrote the very same thing we are talking about here. i went so aggressively nuts. i would scream kick i would pace all the time. pull my hair out. i would be hurtful to others mentally and physically. i went completly manic.
Avatar n tn Neither Abilify and Seroquel lasted long because of unpleasant side effects (nausea and twitching/akathesia). I took Zyprexa for several months before having to stop because it made my skin crawl. I went a few months without any medication, before receiving a prescription for Geodon. GEODON IS A TERRIBLE DRUG.
Avatar f tn In the meantime as what it is treating will return it would be worthwhile to speak to a psychiatrist again and ask what available options are and which one would work for you with the least concerns of any side effects you are experiencing.
