Avatar n tn I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
Avatar m tn my wife and i are noticing aggressive behavior, and paranoia(along with nhs therapist)she is currently in hospital(acute care)and docs and therapists seem to be ignoring this and are contemplating release after suicidal/homicidal threats, has anyone experienced or heard of such aggression from geodon?i did find side effects on web that confirm this could happen, but seems doctors cant find or have ever heard of this? can anyone shed light please!!!!!
Avatar f tn (still dealing with it, right now i am suffering from severe sleep deprivation and some really wierd symptoms like confusion, memory loss, severe inattention, etc.....look up zyprexa side effects and withdrawal, it can do some really messed up stuff to you. But on the other hand, not everyone reacts that way.
Avatar f tn Just look up side effects and long-term effects.. I was speaking out of my own experience but my chemical balance is obviously completely different to that of your son's which would change the effect it has on his mental and personality states.
559058 tn?1215810834 m bp, been on Zyprexa for 5 yrs off and on, gained weight of course, and know that it has tons of other side effects. But I know Depakote is not without side effects either -- like constipation, liver damager etc. What's worse? Plus, I know it causes weight gain also. What do you guys think? Thanks!
874521 tn?1424116797 Zyprexa is still on the market. There was just a concern at the time that the company under reported the rate at which it causes diabetes. That issue has been addressed. All atypical antipsychotics can cause diabetes, Zyprexa being the one with the greatest potential.
3136619 tn?1345387321 I am wondering if anyone has tried Zydis. I haven't heard much about it on these boards. I've gained enough weight on regular Zyprexa and wonder if anyone has had fewer side effects with Zydis.
628714 tn?1268238196 The most commonly reported side effects are sleepiness or excessive sleeping, dizziness, dry mouth and weight gain. Other side effects include akathisia (an inability to sit still), constipation, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension and tremors. The yawning you experience is also a rare side effect reported with Zyprexa. (Ref: http://bipolar.about.com/cs/zyprexa/a/meds_zyprexa.
1082697 tn?1260064616 Antidepressants often have many side effects listed. Legally, the manufacturers must list every single adverse event that occurred in patients who were taking their drug. This does not mean that you will experience all of the side effects listed. Everyone is different and therefore patients may have different side effects with the same drug. A drug may have a side effect that occurs in me that you do not experience. This drug is safe and it seems that you are tolerating the drug well.
1257808 tn?1322762215 Please read all side effects on the meds you take. Always go with the lowest dose that works for you. Many pdoc's just randomly increase a med for no reason at all, disregarding that the lower dose works. The more of a med you take, the more chance of side effects. That's not to say you won't get any side effects on any dosage. Hope this is helpful.
Avatar n tn i was on zyprexa for 2 weeks and i made the decision to stop it because the side effects were awful. tired and nervous at the same time, plus i gained 11 pounds in two weeks. i find that although i may have periods of hypomania, it is not enough to warrant being on meds for mania. most of them are very strong and the side effects are even worse in the long run.
1655289 tn?1326042889 Topamax does tend to cause weight loss, but trust me, this is not the way you want to lose weight. Topamax (I was taking it for bipolar) first of all did nothing for my moods. I was back in the hospital a few months after first being prescribed this, along with seroquel and ativan for panic and anxiety. That's not what makes this medicine so undesirable though. With each dose increase, I had numbness in my legs and arms. This could continue for as long as 2 weeks after a dose increase.
Avatar m tn The dose you took is relatively small, but it can still cause side-effects and withdrawal effects. Did your doctor prescribe this to you? If you are having trouble sleeping, there are many other techniques and medications that can be used.
Avatar m tn In this case a google search for haloperidol and zyprexa can give you information on both drugs and how they work and their side effects so when your brother sees his doctor he can ask the right questions.
Avatar f tn Metformim is a medication used to control or prevent the onset of diabetes and/or regulate blood sugar and this is how it helps with these potential side effects of Zyprexa but you could discuss the specifics with your psychiatrist. What you describe are potential side effects of concern from Metformim so you should inform your psychiatrist.
Avatar m tn If you have been on them for a while, say about 4 weeks, and you are still having unwanted side effects then you should discuss with your doctor.
Avatar n tn I've been on a couple of different SSRI's Paxil(generic) and now on Prozaz. I have noticed that my memory doesn't seem to be as good as it use to be. I've always attributed to getting older and having a ton more stress in my life. I've done a lot of research on SSRI side effects and have never seen anything documented about memory loss. Getting off of Paxil (if that's what you decide to do) is very difficult.
Avatar m tn t stop taking your lamotrigine unless you talk to the pdoc first, just saying these are listed side effects. Lamotrigine is a really good drug for bipolar and side effects usually wane after a few months. Since you were only on Ziprexa for 4 months, chances are really minimal that any permanent damage was done. If you are not having movement related issues - smacking lips, drooling, etc. it shouldn't be anything permanent.
Avatar f tn The dosage suggestions given to you are correct. the side effects are;The most common side effects for patients taking GEODON for bipolar mania include sleepiness, abnormal muscle movements (such as tremors, shuffling, and uncontrolled movement), dizziness, and restlessness. If there is any heart rhythym problem, this could be a dangerous drug for your son.
Avatar n tn Atypical antipsychotics can have a lot of side effects. If you think your memory problems are from the seroquel, talk to your doctor about changing your meds around. If they're for schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder, you'll need to stay on some sort of antipsychotic, but different ones have different side effect profiles for different people. If it's for bipolar or as an add on for depression, you can switch drug classes entirely, which might work better for you.
Avatar f tn ANY new medication can have side effects....and dizziness is one of the more common ones. However, anxiety itself can also cause dizzinesss...and with your history of trying so many meds and having negative experiences...you may have already decided in your mind that you would have problems with it. Finding a new doctor? Why? Why such a drastic measure? Why not just continue to communicate with your current doctor, and try to follow his instructions.....these meds DO take some time....
Avatar n tn Have you written to Dr. Gould for his feedback? He's the expert physician for mental health questions on this forum. What is your chief complaint about the Prozac? Do you also have anxiety with your depression? I've been told that Prozac is quite energizing, so it can be challenging for those folks who have anxiety coupled with their depression. Personally, I would never take Zyprexa. It's in the antipsychotic family, I believe. Have you read the side effects?
Avatar f tn FDA does not list any of these side effects as a problem, althought that doesn't mean it can't happen. I would suggest you consult with your doctor about trying a different medication. There are numerous options available. I hope you feel better.
Avatar f tn Just wondering if anyone else is dealing with the following side effects due to taking benzo's and if anyone has found a way to alleviate any of them.
Avatar m tn Procyclidine is an anticholinergic drug this is also related to memory trouble. Zyprexa is an atypical antipsychotic with affinity to the GABAa recpetor which, like most antipsychotic, can cause memory problem and especially anterograde memory. A wise thing to do would be to get on a nootropic regiment. You need to augment you choline intake due the the disruption in you cholinergic system cause by the anticholinergic drug you use.
1257808 tn?1322762215 If your concerned about weight it is really important for you to look up the side effects of a med before you choose to take it or not. There are meds that are weight neutral. It's a shame so many dr's don't take that into consideration when prescribing these drugs. They don't have to carry the weight, we do! I will not take a drug that is weight gaining no matter what. I am of normal size and have no intention of becoming overweight.
