Zyprexa seroquel

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa seroquel

Avatar f tn Is there any other meds that have the same ability to control the reasons that zyprexa is prescribed for as it is very expensive and I am afraid it could cause a patient to discontinue taking it.
Avatar f tn I started 5 Mgs of zyprexa about 5 days ago for psychosis, mostly "ideas of reference" the zyprexa is now added to my seroquel since I weaned off invega. So far, I am having less ideas of reference but not totally gone. Didn't expect a miracle in taking it less than a week. Can anyone please let me know their experience with zyprexa. How long it took to work and how it helped you. I would appreciate any advice and information on it.
Avatar n tn My brother (46 years old, dx at age 17) has been on 20mg/day of Zyprexa for approx 1 month (we switched him from haldol injections). He is schizophrenic, lives with me, & is a heavy smoker (approx 3-4 packs/day with no current interest in stopping although he did kick the caffeine habit). I've been reading up on zyprexa & smoking and noted that zyprexa clearance is 40% higher in smokers vs. non smokers.
Avatar f tn I was on 15mgs of Abilify and 5 mgs of Zyprexa. My got hands got shaky on the Abilify and I was losing sleep on Zyprexa. Now, I am on 10 mgs of each. I am starting the regiment next week. I know it will be better than before because the mgs are balanced.
518117 tn?1429279873 Namaste, Explanation of the issues (and sequence of events) surrounding the lawsuits that claim that the use of Seroquel, Zyprexa and Risperdal caused health problems such as pancreatitis and diabetes and stroke. Zyprexa, like Risperdal and Seroquel, has been associated with serious side effects in patients, especially those who have already been diagnosed with diabetes.
Avatar f tn They were first used for serious mental illness like schizophrenia, and then for bipolar disorder, and then for the thing we 'call' bipolar in children, that really isn't bipolar disorder. Seroquel is one of the most sedating of the group (zyprexa is quite sedating as well) and so it has been used as a 'non addictive sleep medication' in very low doses-- although many institutions are trying now to ban it for that purpose for cost concerns.
Avatar f tn * feeling sleepy * falling, feeling dizzy or faint on standing up * weight gain, increased appetite * feeling weak * constipation * dry mouth * runny or stuffy nose * indigestion * upset stomach * swelling of your hands, feet or ankles * blurred vision * difficulty swallowing * abnormal dreams, nightmares * irritability Sexual dysfunction isnt on there but one of the serious side effects is long lasting and painful erections and it can cause diabetes and even breast growth in some extreme cas
Avatar n tn I know someone who went through medical detox -- this person had a BIG habit -- who got Seroquel AND Zyprexa (another Seroquel-type drug), and doesn't remember the w/ds, so maybe ...
1168718 tn?1464987135 hi everyone, was just wondering if you guys have had any trouble with Seroquel? I am being put on it for sleep, and I have read up on it, and the side effects are kinda scarey. Does anyone have any input? My Dr. is putting me on a very tiny dose to start, as I reacted to Nortriptyline and have been on nothing for sleep for 3 days now. Can anyone give me some help please??
Avatar n tn I asked my Doctor to switch me to Seroquel which,I believe, is less likely to cause this side effect. However, as i am switching from zyprexa to seroquel, I am having a very hard time getting to sleep. I have only cut the zyprexa down to 5mg every night in that I take in addition to 300mg of seroquel. It would seem that the addition of 300mg of seroquel would help me to sleep and would make up for having cut the zyprexa dose in half.
Avatar m tn Hello I'm currently on 30mg of paroxetine and 1mg of clonazepam and doctor added 150mg seroquel xr but i'm afraid of the side effects.. in the past ive used zyprexa up to 15mg.. what is the comparison in side effects vetween zyprexa and seroquel? Thanks.
Avatar n tn So I took both drugs at the same time(pharmicist said it woulnt be harmful, just pointless since they both do the same thing, and it could make you real sleepy.) After getting some seroquel in me, i tapered off the zyprexa slowly and successfully. The doc. was dead wrong. My sleep isnt fantastic, but i can sleep without aid and for 12 hours if I wanted to. Now, I am still taking the seroquel. But my goal is to be free of this burden, the magic pill.
Avatar m tn I have been taking Zyprexa 5 mg along with Prozac 60 mg for the past 3 months. I have been on Prozac for the past 12 years. On Zyprexa I began to experience Edema and weight gain, which was not great considering I have battled an eating disorder for the past 18 years. I called my doctor and he told me to just stop taking the zyprexa and the edema would go away. I asked him if I should wean down and he said no that there are no withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn My Dr Just started me on low dose Zyprexa and Valium I guess for anxiety and the Zyprexa has me concerned.Has she been tried on Seroquel? most tolerate it well.
917008 tn?1251227579 Trying to get sub to help kick a big oxy habit -- if that fails, it's "Home Hell" time again ... I've spoken to people from med rehab who tell me they were on this drug AND Zyprexa, and they can't remember the w/d's (!) ... so, trying to cover all the bases (impossible), I know I can p/u one of these at a clinic with the right story ... Anyone used Seroquel for sleep? I'm quite resistant to benzos, and I'm aware of the pharmacology of "atypical anti-psychotics". Thanks.
Avatar f tn I have been on regular Seroquel for years and Seroquel XR for some time now and I have never gained any weight. In fact, I was on Seroquel when I lost the weight I gained from all the other drugs.
874521 tn?1424120397 You will notice tremendous change if you apply the rest of my theory lamictal+seroquel OR abilify+seroquel. Get off this funny zyprexa and valproex seroquel is manufactured by astra zenyca which does 18 bn a year, 4.7 bn out of it is due to seroquel alone. pdocs are more informed than us of course. I bet they never read anything after they leave college all they do they chat only together in conferences or the learn from their mistakes.
Avatar n tn I am currently taking 3.75mg zyprexa, 50mg Topimax, 300mg Seroquel, and 350mg Trileptal at nightime. I take 300mg Lamictal and 350mg Trileptal every morning. I sleep all night, and want to sleep more. I've had bloodwork done the past few months and my thyroid always comes back alright. I see my counselor every other week, but it is really difficult to get a work in appointment with my psychiatrist. He's always booked for the next 3 months and it's very frustrating for me.
Avatar n tn My doctor tried to change me to Zyprexa, Seroquel and Abilify but I felt sleepy. I don't seem to have any side effects from Risperdal. Is your friend under great stress. When I am, that is when I have bizarre thoughts and paranoia. I still just stay on Risperdal and it doesn't last long. See if you can help him eliminate some of the stress in his life. Couldn't hurt.
Avatar n tn My girlfriend is two weeks into Zyprexa withdrawl and along with the constant nausea is experiencing bouts of pretty severe abdominal pain. She says it feels like a muscle cramp inside her stomach. Has anyone else experienced anything similar while detoxing from the Zypexa? She also belches almost constantly. If anyone could offer information on this I would really appreciate it.
Avatar m tn I now take Zyprexa 25 mg and feel great. Back to the Seroquel my GI doctor said it was ok to take Seroquel during treatment, make sure you talk with your doctor before taking any new medicine.
919239 tn?1269398258 They were of little benefit. Recently my MD. gave me some samples of 50 mg. of Seroquel XR. After reading the info with the medication, it says Seroquel is prescribed for bi-polar disorder. In my case I don't get the up or manic phase. I was hoping that this medication may be helpful for depression alone. Anyone who takes Seroquel that can give me some insight will be much appreciated.
337492 tn?1212462436 I have a BP friend that started Seroquel almost a month ago and she is still having sedative side effects. She takes 50mg twice a day and 200mg at bedtime. She is concerned about this side effect continuing and wants to feel peppy in order to start back to work. Will this sleepy side effect subside. She sleeps throughout the day. Thanks!
1134609 tn?1269275800 I have tried Seroquel, Seroquel XR, Zyprexa, and Lithium, all in the space of a few weeks... I thought that they were causing me to cycle harder, but I have realized that I am getting the akathisia side effect from them.. When the sun is down, they bring up my mood, but when it's bright out, I get very agitated.. All of these drugs have this side effect as they work on dopamine. I am at a loss right now; has anyone else had this problem? I am slowly running out of medications...
Avatar f tn I have racked my brain trying to understand how Seroquel (which I am taking for anxiety, 50mg/night) can make one gain such exhorbitant amounts of weight. I have read dozens of "testimonial" from people taking this drug, and all blame "the drug" (i.e. Seroquel or other medications within the Seroquel family) for gaining weight. I am confused, for I do not believe that a drug can "make" someone do this.
603015 tn?1329866573 I was on Seroquel for a year and I did not experience any weight gain, just extreme sleep. I took one and went to sleep for 12 hours; but at the time I was not sleeping at all so it regulated my sleeping pattern. The medicine I am on now is Trileptal; and have been on it for 6 years. It works well and only makes me drowsy when I take all at bed time. I feel that it has maintained me well. I am up to 1200mgs. As for feeling fine, you know that comes and goes.
561706 tn?1333950874 I've been diagnosed with cataracts; probably due to taking Seroquel for my BPl (I'm 41). Last year when I saw my eye doctor he told me I might be developing them and that was the first time I'd heard of that side effect. Yesterday he confirmed my diagnosis. He recommended "working around" my meds instead of going off them. Cataracts are relatively easier to treat then BP. I really llike Seroquel. I'm not in a panic, but I'd like to hear about others' experiences with this. Thanks.
574118 tn?1305138884 I did ask my psychiatrist and the reason anti-psychotics are being increasingly used as mood stabilizers is that lithium aside, all the other mood stabilizers can at times induce mania or other personality changes (which is noted on them as a side effect and I experienced as well). Also some antipsychotics (Zyprexa, Seroquel) have a stronger mood stabilization effect than others. This is just my understanding of all this from a consumer perspective.
663901 tn?1232653271 Yes when I was on Seroquel I had to get an eye exam each year due to the extremely rare risk of cataracts but I saw an opthamologist anyway so it was no big deal. That is statisically rare and no reason to be concerned about Seroquel and a check up as I suggested is the best form of follow up. Seroquel is safe in this regard. In this case (you know I am always factual) your pharmacist was overstating the risk but a follow up visit is generally a good idea.
