Zyprexa off label

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa off label

zyprexa

Avatar f tn After stopping serzone for anxiety, my husband had a reaction of severe insomnia after trying Lexapro for 3 days. His doctor suggested bipolar and put him on Zyprexa but is weaning him down gradually. He's on 7.5 mg currently. What side effects can we expect if he doesn't really have bipolar (which is our opinion) from this medication? We know the most common ones, but what if he is not truly bipolar? I can't wait for him to get off of it, but he is sleeping soundly again.
874521 tn?1424116797 Zyprexa is still on the market. There was just a concern at the time that the company under reported the rate at which it causes diabetes. That issue has been addressed. All atypical antipsychotics can cause diabetes, Zyprexa being the one with the greatest potential.
Avatar f tn propertly, what scared me on your post was you said it was perscribed for sleep and that is not the proper use of this medication although it will help you sleep, but if insomnia is your issue theere are better alternatives. The thing with the atypical-antipsychotics is they have been marketed to drs for off label uses like sleep and anxiety but these are powerful drugs and if not truley needed there are better routes or medication to take.
1623698 tn?1299161234 If you are the type of person who cannot get off of the zyprexa easily, plan on a very long, slow withdrawal. It took me about 6 months to come off of a 2.5 mg. pill. Finally the pill was down to 1/16th - then I took it every other day for two weeks, then I stopped. It has been about a month since I have totally stopped zyprexa and I still have nausea (but it is manageable) and tons of itching. The doc suggested I try it again - that itching/nausea are a sign of stress. I.will.never.take.
Avatar n tn I'm interested to hear of successful weaning stories--of people getting off zyprexa and for how long you have been off the medicine. This is my goal and I could use some encouragement. All the doctors and therapists I have spoken to say that it is extremely risky to go off medication and think that all symptoms of mental illness will return. Do those of us who want to be medication free have any hope? Are there any natural remedies that help with bipolar disorder?
100019 tn?1335919717 For genotype 1 patients who cannot take interferon, the panel recommends sofosbuvir plus the HCV protease inhibitor simeprevir (Olysio), with or without ribavirin, again for 12 weeks. This off-label regimen has not been through full Phase 3 testing, but performed very well in the Phase 2 COSMOS trial.
Avatar n tn Did your doctor prescribe it to you for this? If not, STOP right now...'experimenting' with prescription medications, which are extremely addictive can NEVER have good outcomes.
Avatar f tn They all have reported feeling better daily - this off label approach is a God Send! Now I will finish out the 12 weeks - they will do the viral load test again at that time and then 12 weeks post treatment test again to declare me officially SVR!!! NO HORRIBLE INTERFERON OR RIBAVARIN THIS TIME FOR ME!!
1635208 tn?1300807160 Hi welcome to the Hepatitis C community Olysio per the prescribing information sheet is intended to be used with interferon and Ribavirin. The same applies to Sovaldi. Per prescription they are not used together. However there have been clinical trials using them together "off label" and they have been shown to be highly effective when used together. You can web search for Cosmos clinical trial cohort 1 and cohort 2 to see study results.
222267 tn?1253302210 However, that one list we have has all FDA approved medications that are used off label as mood stabilizer. You could discuss that with your psychiatrist. The difficulty with natural remedies is that they are unregulated. In Europe its much because they are given as prescriptions. It acceptable if you take something if its under your psychiatrist's supervision but they are something to be wary of as they are completely unregulated.

Avatar n tn For the 2 years, he has been on the same meds, concerta 54mg bid, welbutrin SR 150 bid, depakote 500mg in am and 1000mg in pm and zyprexa zyda 10mg, within the last 3 months methylphenidate 10mg was added to his regimen for problems his mother feels like he is having at home.
Avatar m tn I have wanted my son off zyprexa for awhile. Everytime he comes off an amount by the 3rd day he gets sucidal. how do I wean him off safely? How do you wean off this medication slowly and safely. It has never helped his depression, he has started lithium and seems okay, he was extremely senitivie to all medications, like zoloft prozac, all very bad.
Avatar f tn Have you successfully gotten off zyprexa?
919239 tn?1269394658 Seroquel is an anti-psychotic and should not be prescribed for depression since it's basically a serotonin antagonist. I know it is sometimes prescribed off-label for depression but it is very rare and i don't understand why would one prescribe Seroquel for depression. Have you tried SSRI or SNRIs? A reuptake inhibition of a neurotransmitter is way better, in my humble opionion, than the inhibition of the receptors implied with serotonin neurotransmitter.
Avatar f tn I understand what you are saying. The unfortunate thing is that you had to go off of Zyprexa without the ability to taper it down slowly. Now you are left with your anxiety and withdrawl symptoms and apparently no coping strategies. Since you no longer have insurance, I would look into a free group meeting to discuss your symptoms. Do a Google search in your area for whatever you were taking the Zyprexa for.
559058 tn?1215810834 I'm bp, been on Zyprexa for 5 yrs off and on, gained weight of course, and know that it has tons of other side effects. But I know Depakote is not without side effects either -- like constipation, liver damager etc. What's worse? Plus, I know it causes weight gain also. What do you guys think? Thanks!
Avatar m tn I have had four months of nausea and dizziness because my dr. took me off Zyprexa and put me on another med. I thought my symptoms were from withdrawal but he said that I shouldn't experience withdrawal from Zyprexa, especially since the new drug, Seroquel, was in the same class. So I was told I had an inner ear problem for the last four months and have been suffering through these symptoms.
Avatar f tn 5mg effexor (i weaned off from 150 but had to go bk on because was having uncontrollabe panic), 2.5mg zyprexa and ativan as needed. Any advice?
Avatar m tn ve been on almost every antidepressant and off label medication known to man (and woman). My main diagnosis is generalized anxiety disorder, with depression being secondary. Generally, my depression is low level, like yours (Dysthymia), but there have been times in my life when I've experienced a major depressive episode. Anyway, I HAVE tried Abilify with Effexor XR. I had to stop taking it because it gave me restless leg syndrome. I couldn't sit still.
Avatar f tn Has anyone found that their mind switches off when taking it, like I find it difficult to to do anything, I can think about it but not actually get up to do it, like my head is switched off.
