Zyprexa not working

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa not working

zyprexa

Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
Avatar n tn I was wondering if anyone on this website is taking zyprexa for racing thoughts and irritability. I started taking it in December for these symptoms but I have put on weight taking this drug. I am not sure if it is the drug itself or if my appetite has increased. In anycase, I am really depressed about this and am thinking of switching medications or just getting off the zyprexa itself. I am also taking 20 mg. of lexapro and this has not caused a past weight gain. Please help!
1082697 tn?1260064616 Sometimes Zyprexa can be used with an antidepressant such as Fluoxetine (Prozac). Zyprexa can be dosed at different amounts depending on the diagnosis, so I do not know if your dose is low. Antidepressants often have many side effects listed. Legally, the manufacturers must list every single adverse event that occurred in patients who were taking their drug. This does not mean that you will experience all of the side effects listed.
1082697 tn?1260064616 now this drug is suppose to make you sleepy. well, it is working the opposite for me. the doctor told no one she has ever had on zyprexa had this reaction to it. if anyone can help me with this, i would appreciate it. i am not feeling so depressed .
Avatar f tn Is there any other meds that have the same ability to control the reasons that zyprexa is prescribed for as it is very expensive and I am afraid it could cause a patient to discontinue taking it.
1082697 tn?1260064616 the zyprexa is working so well. i am the only one she has on zyprexa that is not sleepy. she is amazed at how good it works for me.
1082697 tn?1260064616 it is for bipolar but is also used to boost your antidepressant. it is working well. i feel totally back to normal i do not have any of side affects .it does make me very hungry but i watch what i eat. anyone else taking zyprexa? or celexa?
Avatar m tn I was given 10 mg Zyprexa by my pdoc for about four months. It stopped working, so he took me off of it. I went from 10mg to 5 mg for a week, then to 2.5mg for a week, then off. This is the 12th day and I've been experiencing intense withdrawal: An extreme anxiety that I've never before experienced, an indescribable, awful feeling, insomnia/early waking, severe and persistent diarrhea, dry heaves and throwing up, unable to eat, etc.
547014 tn?1214861617 the ssri's are not really the best for anxiety and panic. Ask your doctor about medications like klonopin or xanax. You should also try psychotherapy.
Avatar f tn Yes you can loose weight on this med. I have lost most of the weight I gained. I eat 6 small meals a day and exercise. caarrdio and wieghts. eat lots of fruits and veggies along with lean protiens.
Avatar f tn His previous psychiatrist who is now 3,600 km away, sent my son off with a referral letter stating that his approach had they continued working together would be to switch from Zyprexa (10 mg. daily) to Zeldox (60 mg) due to a weight gain. He then provided him with Zeldox samples from the drug company but in 80 mg doses. I don't know where the error is. Is there a typo in the referral letter or were those the only samples he had?
8798274 tn?1399988458 I did not sleep for 3 days, then I slept like for three days. I do not feel tired anymore, I do not get that sleepy tired feeling. I have tried many meds to help me to sleep (trazodone, klonopin, Geodon..) nothing help. Now I am sleeping 2-3 hours a night with the help of gabapentin, but I do not feel tired, I DO NOT GET SLEEPY. Please help, I have been in this situation for almost a year. Can the damage done by the drug be permanent? Should I see a neurologist?
401554 tn?1270213756 I am on Zyprexa 2.5 mg for depression. It has practically cured me but my heart is beating out of synch all the time now. I was diagnosed with a harmless heart arrhythmia a year ago and the Zyprexa is making it much worse. My cardiologist and psychiatrist said it was nothing to worry about but I'm scared. Risperdal also had the same effect, too. I tried Abilify but It made me way too jittery. Has anyone else out there experienced this?
1713187 tn?1368462822 I am on 75mg of methadone and i have been put on 15mg of Zyprexa. It is working great for my mental issues but i missed a doctors appt and ran out. I have been off of Zyprexa for 9 days now and was on it for 47 days only. The past 6 days i have been feeling withdraw symptoms. Shacks, stomach cramps, cold chills, muscle tightness, teeth clinching almost like it put me into methadone withdraws! I am sure thats not it, but i am worried.
Avatar m tn I'm prescribed Zyprexa in the "Zydis" rapid-dissolve form, 5mg, as needed "for agitation". I'm bi-polar, and sometimes I get worked up to a state that is more frustrated & agitated than it is manic, per se, The Zyprexa works well for this, except for its notorious weight-gain side effects. I just can't handle the weight issues.
Avatar f tn You're posting on a depression forum, but Zyprexa is an antipsychotic, so I guess the first thing to think about is whether you need that add-on or not. If the Pristiq wasn't working by itself at all, adding another drug to it won't help it work. If it was working but not well enough and this is where you ended up instead of trying a different antidepressant to see if that worked better, that's another possibility.
Avatar f tn Nothing seems to work well for me. I had resisted mood stabilisers till recently and even priadel does not seem to be working for me. anti-depressants on their own of course had me all over the place because of misdiagnosis, it seems none of the docs i've been to had ever heard of dysphoric mania! i keep hoping priadel will kick in as i have had enough at this point. Good luck with your quest for good meds.
Avatar m tn My dr is talking about trying Abilify as an adjunct to the low dose Wellbutrin I'm currently taking. I am not bi-polar. I've suffered from recurring major(?) depression off and on for a few years. And seemingly a low grade depression for much longer. I'm not that keen on taking a medicine which is primarly an anti--psychotic. Not sure how this drug found its way to treating depression. The possible side effects are a concern. Anyone prescribed Abilify for depression?
Avatar f tn My dd is 17, was on Zyprexa for years (like 7 or 8 years) along with lithium carb and others than changed as time went on. She was mostly fine on it until 2 years ago when she started to gain weight. I had noticed cognitive dulling, she has struggled in school quite a bit, after being a straight A student for the first four years of her schooling. We tried to get her off of it last year and it was a huge fiasco, she was a wreck for 2-3 months, alternately sobbed and screamed and rarely slept.
Avatar f tn I am not on any other medication, and yet I keep on gaining weight. Does all the anti psychotic make you gain weight? Is there any anti psychotic that doesn't make you gain weight?
Avatar m tn Hi everyone i was diagnosed with bipolar march 2011 im currently on 2000mg depakote 10 mg zyprexa and a sleeping tablet i have just finished 13 years in armed forces and now wondering what to do next and does it sound like a right combo of meds???
Avatar f tn How is it to you???
Avatar n tn The rash side effect of Lamictal can be fatal so thank goodness you are okay. I had not heard of the diabetes with Zyprexa before, I would read the fine print on your med insert for sure. I wonder what Topomax would do for you or possibly Abilify which has fewer side effects, especially in the eating department. Ya know we are unfortunately part of the pharmaceutical rat race and often times doctors have more experience with one med or another due to what the drug reps are pushing.
Avatar m tn Its understandable to want to change medications but it may not be in his best interest to take him off medication. Why not ask them exactly why he needs medication and what its working on. Then you can discuss what the options are.
Avatar f tn While I have not taken it, I know that a good deal of the antipsychotics out there, including olanzapine, can cause sedation. Antipsychotics can also be activating where they will cause insomnia if you take them before falling asleep. I'm sure there are people here who have taken it and experienced sedation.
739988 tn?1386672969 Try 6 small meals a day with a protien and carb in small portions. I take ayprexa and I have lost 46 pounds and I am not diabetic I love my zyprexa and I am not going to give it up. I did gain weight at first on it but I have since lost the weight. It is possible to keep the weight off on zyprexa.
Avatar m tn Forgot to mention, Zyprexa is not habit forming, but it shouldn't be stopped abruptly. It should be gradually tapered if it is to be d/c'ed.
