Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa mania

zyprexa

874521 tn?1424116797 I know for a fact that the zyprexa causes drowsiness. I have been on 10mg for over a year and it makes me sleep well through the night and into the morning. I'm not sure about the other drug, but the one thing I am sure of is don't let him just get off the zyprexa "cold turkey"!!! Read on here under zyprexa withdrawls about what most of us feel when we are coming off of this drug. You will be surprised on what it does to someone's well being....
Avatar n tn I have been on 10mg's of zyprexa and it seems to me that this drug is still very strong in the morning and I am very anxious. Later on in the day I feel better. Is this a side effect?
520191 tn?1355635402 Simple question can you take two anti-pyschotic medications at once? And if you can is it better than an a anti-depressant for a mixed mood? - this is because i am on seroquel for anxiety and sleep and i don't want to come off it but i have the choice of going on venlfaxine or zyprexa so if i chose zyprexa would i have to come off the seroquel. I am being treated for bipolar at the moment mixed state.
Avatar f tn ADs and BP disorder are always an interesting conundrum. I know that there have been extensive studies regarding a Zyprexa/Prozac combination for BP disorder. Those studies have shown to be effective. If you and your pdoc are thinking about going with Prozac, I would probably look into using it with Zyprexa. The ADs can be hit or miss, especially with BP folks. I know that I (along with many BP friends) have had serious issues with all of the ADs.
Avatar m tn OK, I will try to consult with my doctor for Zyprexa (Olanzapine). Wikipedia said FDA approved it for only Mania in bipolar patients not for depression. But I think antipsychotics also reduce depression by looking at the experiences of different people. Can Risperidone also work like Zyprexa? I am currently on it with an anti depressant.
874521 tn?1424116797 my son spiraled badly 3 wks ago and was put on zyprexa(now 10mg) and valporate(1000mg) the first week he was full of anxiety...couldn't settle, just paced the floor yet he was depressed and cried alot too. was told this was a mixed state of BP. the second-part of 3rd week he stabilized but in an extreme depression....so low he could barely get dressed or eat, but he pushed himself and even worked. Now a little into the 3rd week he is still depressed although not as bad...
Avatar n tn I got diagnosed Bipolar 1 four years ago, I'm currently twenty two. I currently take 30 mg. of zyprexa,. 1500 mg. depakote, 2 mg. benztropine, 50 mg. of risperdone, and 50 mg. testim . I have gained 70 pounds of fat. When I'm not in a mania I sleep from the zyprexa for 12 hours a night. My anxiety is so high and from all of the side affects, just to name a few I have had diarrhea for the last three years, retrograde ejaculation, weight gain, restless legs syndrome.
497950 tn?1255863927 I am on Neurontin and Celexa right now which is great but I can still feel myself going up and down all the time. Or even if I have to go back on Zyprexa has anyone NOT gained weight on it? People told me I would gain weigh on Celexa and I haven't.

Avatar f tn i was diagnosed with bipolar 6 years ago after a head injury and was taking zyprexa. Soon after, I was hospitalized with pancreatitis. The doctors immediatly took me off the zyprexa. Since then I have quit all alcohol and never did take drugs. I am currently taking Lexapro, but i don't feel it is what i need. I am constantly tierd, gaining weight, have constant muscle pain, especially in my feet and legs. I still suffer from mood swings, the ups and downs.
1655289 tn?1326042889 I recently relasped after 10 years of sobriety. I've been severely depressed for months and have started to feel better in the last couple of days. I'm more talkitive, sleeping less, spending online, so I must be a little manic right now. I think I'm self medicating with the alcohol. I am also diabetic so I know I should not drink plus the meds I take (Zyprexa and Prozac) I think I'm in denial about my diabetes because I also have a problem with food, I crave carbs mostly.
Avatar m tn I am on Zyprexa, Prozac, lorazepam, lunesta and trazadone. I have taken lorazepam for 9 years 1-1.5 mg prn. Dr tries to wean me down but I get sleep deprived the go into full blown mania so he then restarts it. Is it possible weaning off benzos causes mania or is this part of my disorder?
Avatar f tn My son, 21, has been on Zyprexa for 6 months after presenting with a psychotic episode. His psychiatrist recommended a switch from Zyprexa to Zeldox fearing the deveopment of metabolic syndrome. He has now moved and is looking for a new psychiatrist which will take some time before the first appointment. What dosage of Zeldox would be equivalent to 10 mg daily of Zyprexa? What side effects can be expected during the switch from Zyprexa to Zeldox?
Avatar m tn We got in to see her psychiatrist and she spilled her guts about denying and covering up the manic episodes in the past. He put her on Zyprexa to knock down the mania and then started her on Lamictal, keeping her on Effexor. That was all about two weeks ago. I guess my question is: is there any chance of a normal life after being diagnosed?
1082697 tn?1260064616 the zyprexa is working so well. i am the only one she has on zyprexa that is not sleepy. she is amazed at how good it works for me.
Avatar n tn If they thought she had bipolar and took her off Prozac that would make sense because that can worsen mania. Zyprexa is an antipsychotic that is a good mood stabilizer but that is sedating. Abilify is less so but as you said she couldn't tolerate it. Lithium is worth trying. Its the most effective mood stabilizer out there. For myself I found Lamictal had less side effects and was more tolerable but every person reacts differently.
Avatar m tn I've been dealing with bipolar disorder since 2012 and I've gone through 4 hospitalizations due to the manic/psychotic breaks. I've also suffered a few milder hypomanias during last 6 years but I feel exhausted ALL the time I'm not in a mania. I could sleep for hours and still feel extremely tired. It's gone as far as I am calling sick from time to time because I literally am not capable of getting out of bed.
Avatar f tn Im taking Suboxone which Ive been on but I havr bi-polar n there changing my meds around so is it really bad if My doc put me on Prestiq Suboxone n I start Zyprexa Fri. Sorry this was so long I just NEEED HELP AN ANSERS PLEASE?
Avatar n tn My sister was diagnosed with mood disorder a few weeks ago and was recommended to take Zyprexa (2 pills/day) for 6 weeks to treat it. She took the medicine for 2 weeks and left it without the doctor's recommendation as she used to feel too exhausted and she thought that her emotions were under her control now. After a week of leaving the medicine, she slowly became hyper and even sucidal.
Avatar n tn Antipsychotics will all cause tardive dyskinesia and put a person at risk for diabetes and Zyprexa is the prime offender for diabetes. But when Zyprexa worsened my paranoia years ago and it happenned to a friend of mine I knew what was going on. But that's not a "common" side effect. As for "safe" we should be factual.
1030383 tn?1338460785 I went off all my medications three weeks ago. I think it's a good decision, but it's physically a nightmare, and now there are some psychological difficulties as well. My dx is schizoaffective disorder, and I'm coming off Zyprexa, Abilify, Ativan, Sertraline. I'm hiding this from everyone except a couple people - don't want to get thrown in the hospital. Any ideas on getting through withdrawal when you're getting manic, should sleep, and usually you'd take pills??
2010625 tn?1329372056 I know there is also a mania that is like a depressive mania, it has all the symptoms of mania but has depression at the same time, I cant remember what this is called. Hopefully your new medication will help level you out, it may take some time so give yourself a break and try to relax, you are not alone although it can feel like this, everyone on here can relate and help a little, just knowing it is something that many people go through.
Avatar f tn I agree with the above answer. I am not supposed to be on SSRIs alone without a mood stabilizer because they can cause mania. It is common with people who have bipolar to experience this however even with the mania induced by the zoloft there is still going to be crashes which would explain the depression you are experiencing. I would definitely recommend seeing a psychiatrist before trying to come off the zoloft or making any changes to it if that is possible.
1255530 tn?1269867619 anyhow any suggestions on what worked for anyone else after having bad side effects. I need something for mania, insomnia panic and anxiety attacks. Side effects of amilify where as follows Hard time breathing, hyperventilating, feeling sick in respiratory, slight swelling of tongue, fast heartbeat, restless, dizzy, speech changes, tremors and shacking, eyes feel like there rolling in back of head, seeing spots when closing eyes for bed, insomnia, Mania returned in two days, agitation.
222267 tn?1253302210 Zyprexa treats both mania and depressive episodes. I'm still struggling with the mania (hallucinations, running too fast). Actually I would classify it as hypomania. My pdoc put me on Zyprexa in hopes of getting me to eat among the usual. I refuse to eat. I don't know why. I'm not anorexic either. But since this manic episode before Christmas, I can't eat. My brain is telling me no. Well, thank you so much for the support and the feedback.
1030383 tn?1338460785 I'm withdrawing from Zyprexa, Abilify, Ativan and sertraline. It's been three weeks and I've had terrible nausea, stomach pain, fatigue, and generally not feeling good. How long will this last? And, any ideas on how to deal with mania since I can't just "knock myself out" like usual? I need to get enough sleep to stay out of the hospital!
