Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa in children

zyprexa

Avatar f tn He just came home yesterday from a 3 week stay in a mental hospital. The first day he was there they started him on Zyprexa. By the time he came home they were giving him 10mg 3 times a day! I had no idea how high a dose this was. When I took the prescription to the pharmacy they wouldn't fill it without talking to his doctor. They said the dose was excessive. I found out that this is the dose they would give to a 300lb adult, not to a 45lb little boy.
Avatar m tn I have reduced my dose to 2.5 and in 5 weeks I hope to be Zyprexa free. Has anyone else experienced these problems and if so will I ever feel normal again post Zyprexa? I am still battling withdrawal effects while taking 2.5 but no where near as severe as they were when I was not taking any. I am fearful it is going to get worse again. When I stopped taking the medicine I endured 8 painful days and was devastated to hear that I needed to get it back in my system and wean down.
222267 tn?1253302210 I believe we are seeing this huge TREND in Bipolar diagnosis these days. I would say in the last 10 years. People are being improperly diagnosed and it's sad to think people are on medications that could potentially harm them. In the 90's it was ADD or ADHD. Did you know that Zyprexa kills 1 in 125 people? Wow! That is astonishing to me. The fact that the FDA knew about this and approved it, is horrible to say the least.
Avatar n tn I have been taking zyprexa 10mg for over a year now. it seems that when i miss a dose or a couple i have very very vivid dreams. they are so realistic and i find myself having trouble waking up from them. is this normal?
Avatar n tn Have you written to Dr. Gould for his feedback? He's the expert physician for mental health questions on this forum. What is your chief complaint about the Prozac? Do you also have anxiety with your depression? I've been told that Prozac is quite energizing, so it can be challenging for those folks who have anxiety coupled with their depression. Personally, I would never take Zyprexa. It's in the antipsychotic family, I believe. Have you read the side effects?
487506 tn?1208855811 It takes 6 weeks for the full effect of Zyprexa to kick in once you start therapy on it. Any atypical-antipsychotic must be taperd off to avoid a shock to your system and the chemical balance to your brain. I am willing to bet you are having awful withdrawl. I hope this helps.

739988 tn?1386672969 I have been on BP meds for several years. About a year ago I was diagnosed as diabetic. I've heard that the zyprexa and others like it can cause high blood sugar. Diabetes also runs on both sides of my family. Are there any mood stabilizers out there that don't cause Diabetes? I like the Zyprexa because it works really well for me. I guess I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there like me?
1257808 tn?1322762215 Good choice on the Zyprexa! I won't put my two cents in on that drug. I have heard good things from many people about Abilify. We'll keep our fingers crossed.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if anyone on this website is taking zyprexa for racing thoughts and irritability. I started taking it in December for these symptoms but I have put on weight taking this drug. I am not sure if it is the drug itself or if my appetite has increased. In anycase, I am really depressed about this and am thinking of switching medications or just getting off the zyprexa itself. I am also taking 20 mg. of lexapro and this has not caused a past weight gain. Please help!
559058 tn?1215810834 I'm bp, been on Zyprexa for 5 yrs off and on, gained weight of course, and know that it has tons of other side effects. But I know Depakote is not without side effects either -- like constipation, liver damager etc. What's worse? Plus, I know it causes weight gain also. What do you guys think? Thanks!
Avatar m tn Can anyone give me some info. on zyprexa? Has anyone been given this to help stabalize their mood, during withdrawal? If so, please share with me if you benefited from this, and is this addictive as well?
Avatar f tn I know it has been some time since your post, but I do have a lot of experience of the subject. I started taking Zyprexa in 1997 and am still taking it in 2009. I started at 40mg for a few years, then down to 20mg where my pdoc wants me to stay. However, I doubled my weight in the first few months and still have a whale of an appetite every single day. So I experiment from time to time in reducing the dose.
Avatar m tn I was put in risperdal in August 2010, because of a benzo withdrawal, and then on zyprexa, and since then I never feel tired, even if I exercise; I never have the sleepy sensation before the sleep. When I sleep, is like a switch in my brain: something turns off, and I sleep; and when I awake, something is turned on, and I am widely awake. I have no emotions - nothing can excite or depress me. Now I'm tappering the zyprexa very slowly, witth the aprovation of my doctor.
628714 tn?1268238196 I was having problems with excessive yawning too. I went to my doctor and we ran some tests. I was yawning so much it was causing me problems with daily life. Anyway, they thought I might be anemic or iron deficient. Both of these can cause excessive yawning because your lungs feel like they are not getting the oxygen needed because of low red blood cells to carry oxygen to the lungs. But both my tests were fine. I am a very anxious person by nature so we decided I was having an anxiety attack.
Avatar m tn OK, I will try to consult with my doctor for Zyprexa (Olanzapine). Wikipedia said FDA approved it for only Mania in bipolar patients not for depression. But I think antipsychotics also reduce depression by looking at the experiences of different people. Can Risperidone also work like Zyprexa? I am currently on it with an anti depressant.
Avatar m tn I took Zyprexa 5mg for 3 nights only to help with sleep, but have not taken it for 2 nights. Had really difficulty getting to sleep and my sleep was really broken up. Is this normal for this med.
Avatar f tn i was diagnosed with bipolar 6 years ago after a head injury and was taking zyprexa. Soon after, I was hospitalized with pancreatitis. The doctors immediatly took me off the zyprexa. Since then I have quit all alcohol and never did take drugs. I am currently taking Lexapro, but i don't feel it is what i need. I am constantly tierd, gaining weight, have constant muscle pain, especially in my feet and legs. I still suffer from mood swings, the ups and downs.
Avatar f tn called the dr he said to take brynadrl along with the zyprexa but me and hubby both feel he is a quack and i was functioning at least when i went in to him..a littleover amonth ago last week i totally had a breakdown after he started me on that lithiumhehad me stop the lithium on monday and go on zyprexa saw him on thursday and he spent 15 min with me instead of a dr in reno i think we r going to look at twin falls idaho or salt lake..............
Avatar m tn My doctor has put me on Lamictal 25mg in the morning with my usual morning dose of Efexor 150mg. He has also put me on Zyprexa 5mg to help me sleep, as my sleep has been very broken, and I became very anxious. Will it be difficult to come off Zyprexa as I don't want to be permanently on this ? Any opinions will be greatly appreciated.
1589929 tn?1310066922 t had a good nights sleep in about a month and even if I try to nap during the day I doze off and jump myself awake from the anxiety and stress that I'm under. My Doctors currently have me on Ambien and it's usually the only sleep medication that works for me besides Remeron but I was told by a Geneticists not to take Remeron while I'm pregnant so I stopped taking it but I was on Zyprexa before I got pregnant and it helped me sleep and I really need something.
Avatar f tn How to Stop Taking Zyprexa (olanzapine) Your doctor should be recommending that you reduce your dosage of Zyprexa by 5mg a day every six days if you need to discontinue Zyprexa. Making it a week is just easier to remember. You can stop immediately if it’s an emergency, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that without a doctor’s supervision. The major problem with stopping antipsychotics is a sudden return of your symptoms.
Avatar m tn That out of the way I am knowledgeable on herbal health True Zyprexa is not an herbal med. However there is a concept in herbal medicine called adaptogen. These are natural substances that either decrease or increase certain chemicals in the body. In other words they balance out the chemical substance in the individual. Examples are Suma, Schizandra, Ginseng(American, Chinese, Korean).
