Zyprexa how long to work

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa how long to work

Avatar n tn Second, I am also wondering about side effects related to long-term dosing with these meds. Third, I have been told I could try to go off the Zyprexa, and I have no idea how this will work for me. I have had problems in the past with OCD, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and am still hearing faint auditory hallucinations when tired, otherwise its not noticeable. Most of these problems have resolved but I can't be sure they won't return.
Avatar f tn Can anyone please let me know their experience with zyprexa. How long it took to work and how it helped you. I would appreciate any advice and information on it. I am bipolar 1 for 17 years, have been through a lot of meds, and unfortunately have to take many. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Im going to just take ativan till i get a new dr im going to check in twin falls im going to try to go to work today,,,do you think the ativan will be ok in keeping me from breaking down even if i have to up it
Avatar f tn You can also tell him that he'll be going to his psychiatrist to talk about starting a medication that won't cause so many side-effects, but in the meatime time he needs to continue taking his Zyprexa. If his relapse is bad, he might have to go to the hospital again, at which time he might be started on a medication that's more acceptable to him. I've been in your son's position before and have relapsed. As a result I've learned to take my medication everyday, all the time.
Avatar n tn Abilify is such a new drug that no one here has any direct experience to add to what you already know about the drug. If Zyprexa does not work at the higher doeses, perhaps it is worth a try.
Avatar n tn You don't generally want to go to a GP for psych meds, because they're usually not so up on what ones work, side effects, and how to choose the right ones. That's not to knock GPs, but the good ones know when they don't know enough, and refer you to a specialist.
Avatar n tn I was still getting some sleep on.675 mg of a 2.5mg tab. My question being. How long before my sleep starts to smooth out? Iam currently averaging about 1 hour at the most a night for the last 4 nights since I lowered my dose. How long does this go on? I can handle it for a few more days probally but I still have 3 weeks or more before Iam completely even off.My doc who is a Phyco Pharm says he has never seen such withdrawls. Help!
Avatar f tn I don't know if it is related to withdrawals or the 5-htp but I really couldn't sleep when I took that, which makes no sense since people take it to help insomnia. How long do withdrawals last getting off this drug and what can I do in the meantime? Please help!
Avatar m tn He has not done good on medicine for over a year and we want him medicine free for a while since it will be on summer and see how he does, if this doesn't work we will try another doctor, unfortunatly we don't seem to be able to find one locally in our insurance company.
Avatar n tn Does anyone have any advice? I am interested to hear from others who got off zyprexa successfully, to find out how they did it and how long it took to recover. thanks!
Avatar m tn After another 3 months like this the doctor switched me to zyprexa 10mg.This I found to be a great relief and was sleeping 7 hours a day on zyprexa alone. After about 6 months like this the zyprexa dosage was reduced to 5mg.This worked fine and I was still sleeping about 6-7 hours daily. This continued for a year but now I am able to sleep only 5 hours on 5mg of zyprexa.I may have to up the dosage to sleep well.
Avatar f tn I can't go back in time, but I really need to know how long will the apathy and insomnia last. Could anybody with the same symtomps tell me how long they can last? Can they stay for ever, or do they always go away in time? Please tell me, because I can hardly handle these withdrawal effects and I need to know they will go away.
Avatar n tn not good) 2) I tapered my dosage over 1 month (or longer) - if it takes 4+ weeks for the medication to work then it should take as long to taper off (my opinion). 1 week at 15 mg, then 10 mg, then few days at 7.5 mg, then 1 week at 5 mg, then a few days at 2.5 mg - yes I broke down the pills and sorted them. 3) I took high quality Omega's 3's (high in EPA).
Avatar n tn Can anyone tell me how long before this medication relieves the effects of depression? I have been taking the medication for almost two weeks now and still feel terrible about life.
Avatar f tn How long were you on olanzapine and how long have you been off? Do you have any insomnia? Are you experiencing emotions again? Do you feel motivated?
Avatar n tn What are the possible side effects of Zyprexa in patients sensitive to meds? I want to thank you for this forum, and for keeping the questions and answers open to the public.
Avatar n tn My doctor tried to change me to Zyprexa, Seroquel and Abilify but I felt sleepy. I don't seem to have any side effects from Risperdal. Is your friend under great stress. When I am, that is when I have bizarre thoughts and paranoia. I still just stay on Risperdal and it doesn't last long. See if you can help him eliminate some of the stress in his life. Couldn't hurt.
Avatar f tn Doctors are not always right - and any good patient doctor relationship is a partnership - if a doctor does not want to listen to you and in a pdoc relationship this will be a long term one - then you need to find another doctor, to my mind its that simple
1082697 tn?1260068216 i would take lithium if it would help my dpression but the doc put me on zyprexa. i wonder how long i can be on it. the doc said as long as i need it. when do i know if do not need it? i have lost the few pounds i gained. i work out several times a week and i am on a high fiber diet. i guess i am the only patient the doc has had that zyprexa has gotten peppey on it. all her other patients get sleepy on it and have to take it at night . i have to take it in the morning.
Avatar n tn however, the psychiatrist who diagonsed me with Bipolar put me on lexapro and zyprexa. Now I take Cymbalta and Zyprexa, but I recently decided to stop taking the Zyprexa. I'm a medical student so I wanted to stop the Zyprexa because I was sleeping too much. My physician claims there shouldn't be any problems not taking the Zyprexa, but I find that I can't sleep without it.
Avatar m tn I called my psychiatrist office yesterday and he wanted to try using lunesta, ambien, and a tryclic antidepressant to put me to sleep. I'm paranoid after using zyprexa as i feel that stopping it cold turkey could have started all this. Even after getting back on the zyprexa after stopping it cold turkey, i dont feel tired at all! Could something have happened to me during the 4 day lapse that caused some kind of imbalance in my brain that stopped me from feeling tired alltogether?
Avatar m tn I just cannot except this and belive the reason he has become like this is due to the drugs he was put on. How long does it take for you to see normal reactions and is one of the with drawals is red flushing of the face and skin?
Avatar f tn Hi RCA, You are sounding more like my doctor now!! Clobazam known as Frisium has been prescribed by my GP (doctor) to trial out and then choose between diazepam and Frisium. I had a previous post on this. My doctor mentioned that Frisium was used by the pilots during the Falklands War and was preferred as it was less sedating. Despite this frisium is not commonly prescribed and I don't understand why.
Avatar n tn I told them I would get back to them because I'm really not sure what to do now. If you need to know anything else, please let me know. Thanks a lot!!!
Avatar f tn Body/brain chemistry is hugely complex! So my vote is to get back on Zyprexa. See how you feel. Therapy is always helpful if your insurance covers it. Best wishes.
Avatar n tn He is on his second antidepresent called Elavil and now they are wanting to add Zyprexa to be taken with the Elavil. Lots of other sides but these seem to be the worse at the moment. Going into his 5th month of treatment. Pretty much a struggle the entire time. Today first day back to work in weeks. Viral counts almost undetectable, however the ALT and AST remain above the 150's. Much more to say but for now just needing feedback on this new drug they want to try.
Avatar n tn ) COULD THESE ALL JUST BE ANXIETY SYMPTOMS OR COULD IT BE THAT SOMETHING PHYSICAL IS GOING ON BECAUSE MY BODY WAS USED TO THE ZYPREXA FOR SO LONG? HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF THOSE SYMPTOMS????????? WILL THEY GO AWAY? HOW LONG COULD IT TAKE? SHOULD I WAIT IT OUT & SEE WHAT HAPPENS? My doctor says there is no such thing a zyprexa withdrawal. Also, I've been checked out by my primary care physician. He says my ears are fine; the only thing is my throat looked a little irritated.
Avatar f tn It also does damamge to the body in general, like most anti-psychotics, being on it for such a long time, which is easy to google if you wanted to do that. The fact it's been prescribed to a 6 year old is a bit scary. But it sounds like the poor soul is very troubled and doesn't have much of a choice when it comes to being non-medicated.. I remember it pretty much just detaching me from my world and sucking me of emotions such as empathy.
Avatar m tn and how long have you been taking it? i mean, you get to hear the usual horror stories about people getting used to a low dosage, then having to take more and more, etc. what is your experience? me, i take 0.75-0.5 mg, make tiny fragments with a pill-cutter, and keep having those thrice to four times a day, along with a Zoloft 50mg at night. I was recommended Zyprexa as well, but I'm not having that anytime soon.
