Zyprexa for agitation

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa for agitation

zyprexa

Avatar m tn I'm prescribed Zyprexa in the "Zydis" rapid-dissolve form, 5mg, as needed "for agitation". I'm bi-polar, and sometimes I get worked up to a state that is more frustrated & agitated than it is manic, per se, The Zyprexa works well for this, except for its notorious weight-gain side effects. I just can't handle the weight issues.
1167245 tn?1353878500 Hey y'all, The past two days, I've had some pretty bad problems with extreme agitation. Yesterday it was accompanied by depression, and today accompanied by hypomania. But each time, I wanted to be able to crawl out of my skin. Nothing felt comfortable, nothing felt right. The usual things I could turn to in an attempt to distract myself from my negative feelings, even for a moment, stopped being at all effective.
Avatar m tn OK, I will try to consult with my doctor for Zyprexa (Olanzapine). Wikipedia said FDA approved it for only Mania in bipolar patients not for depression. But I think antipsychotics also reduce depression by looking at the experiences of different people. Can Risperidone also work like Zyprexa? I am currently on it with an anti depressant.
Avatar n tn My mam was on lexapro for the last 2 years on and off. She kept coming off them when she felt better. Then you'd notice the signs and I'd know she had stopped taking them. She started feeling really bad approx 6/8 wks ago and was put back on lexapro - she took them for a month 10 mg (i think). She then started having panic attacks and suffering from agitation, loss of appetite, weight loss burning sensations and pins and needles.
Avatar f tn Could you add a symptom to it? "Agitation" I know it's vague, but it's different from anxiety and I don't have a way to indicate it...
Avatar n tn Zyprexa can cause drowsiness when you first start taking it as can Lithium. It takes time for the body to adjust but if after a couple of weeks she is still very sleepy it would be worth discussing the Zyprexa again. Lithium is different for everyone but can cause drowsiness when you first start it, although that doesn't mean it definitely will. I found I was drowsy for the first couple of weeks.
1082697 tn?1260064616 i am taking citalopram and zyprexa for depression. i am on vicodin for shoulder pain. since i have been on the pills i have not needed my pain pillls. i am wondering if anyone has experienced this. did the depression cause my pain? i have not had any bad side affects on the zyprexa. in fact i have so much energy now. i tend to get into deep depression so bad i can hardly get out of bed. i have been taking the zyprexa for about 4 weeks now. the doctor put me on since my citalopram needed a boost.
1082697 tn?1260064616 It may not be that the Zyprexa is making you peppy, but rather that since it is controling your depression which makes us lathargic and sleepy that it seems that way. I glad it's working for you. I have heard people say negitive things about Zyprexa because they claim it made them gain weight, but I don't think those people were on a good diet or working out. You have to do that to keep the fat off.
1255530 tn?1269867619 anyhow any suggestions on what worked for anyone else after having bad side effects. I need something for mania, insomnia panic and anxiety attacks. Side effects of amilify where as follows Hard time breathing, hyperventilating, feeling sick in respiratory, slight swelling of tongue, fast heartbeat, restless, dizzy, speech changes, tremors and shacking, eyes feel like there rolling in back of head, seeing spots when closing eyes for bed, insomnia, Mania returned in two days, agitation.
1082697 tn?1260064616 Zyprexa can be effective for depression when combined with an antidepressant. My Psychiatrist was thinking about it for me, but I told him no and that he would have to be more creative with his meds. (I'm just not a big fan of any anti-psychotic drugs for depression and anxiety) I had my Psych prescribe me a strong Tri-cyclic and 900Mgs a day of Lithium then added Klonopin for the anxiety.
Avatar m tn t think there is any direct health risk (heart attack for example) for skipping 2-3 doses. Zyprexa have a relatively long half-life that can be more than 48 hour. The side-effects you can get from skipping doses are more neurobiological, excess dopamine for example that could produce schizophrenia symptoms, psychosis if you are treated for schizophrenia or had psychotic episodes before. Avatar f tn I was on Zyprexa and the sister drug Risperdal.... Loved how it took me off the edge...HATED the weight gain.... Abilify was suggested years ago- For me, abilify worked well enough on its own- I am a rapid cycler Biploar II. At one point I was on 14 different medications..... in the end Abilify was my "balance" I was able to experience moods, but not in the extreme measures that I was... Personally, I liked abilify- i had that and PRN of seroqoel.
5790942 tn?1374334321 There is no magic pill or cure for w/ds unfortunately and sometimes, people make choices to take medications that can cause other problems (like Oxy mentioned) or they take high doses of a medication to stave off w.ds that also cause risks. There are some meds that can help symptomatically treat w/ds that are pretty low risk and non addictive. To look for something to take it away completely though just isn't realistic.
Avatar f tn I also read somewhere in the internet that there were lawsuits against manufacturers of Zyprexa for using the medication for off label use and apparently covering up data that the medication causes diabetes. I am just curious how freely is Zyprexa prescribed for anxiety disorders outside Australia? I will certainly discuss this with my doctor when I see him next, but I welcome anyone who has more knowledge on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?

574118 tn?1305135284 I always wondered about whether a difference exists between the brand name and the generic form of a drug. My body failed to accept lamotrigine for example and wondered had i not taken lamictal say etc... so it seems there is a difference, here it is: http://blogs.psychcentral.
1134609 tn?1269272200 I have a meeting with today and I am going to ask her to up my Neurontin. I don't have a choice; the current dose is causing me some serious anxiety, but it stablizes my mood. She doesn't feel that it's effective for BP disorder, but it works for me and that's all that counts. I just have to make sure I use the term 'anxiety', versus 'agitation' because she does like Neurontin as an anti-anxiety drug.

739988 tn?1386672969 I like the Zyprexa because it works really well for me. I guess I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there like me?
559058 tn?1215810834 I'm bp, been on Zyprexa for 5 yrs off and on, gained weight of course, and know that it has tons of other side effects. But I know Depakote is not without side effects either -- like constipation, liver damager etc. What's worse? Plus, I know it causes weight gain also. What do you guys think? Thanks!
1257808 tn?1322762215 Since I increased Zyprexa to 20mg, I became sleep for very long time. Most of the day sleep or sleepy. I'm not sure what to do. Continue on this dose (20mg) until my body deal with it or decrease the dose to 15mg.
Avatar n tn I was wondering if anyone on this website is taking zyprexa for racing thoughts and irritability. I started taking it in December for these symptoms but I have put on weight taking this drug. I am not sure if it is the drug itself or if my appetite has increased. In anycase, I am really depressed about this and am thinking of switching medications or just getting off the zyprexa itself. I am also taking 20 mg. of lexapro and this has not caused a past weight gain. Please help!
Avatar m tn I took Zyprexa 5mg for 3 nights only to help with sleep, but have not taken it for 2 nights. Had really difficulty getting to sleep and my sleep was really broken up. Is this normal for this med.
