Zyprexa for adhd

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa for adhd

zyprexa

Avatar f tn All of them do not involve medication. Speaking of medication - non of the meds your son is taking are for ADHD. But ADHD and SIDS also have very common symptoms. Hope some of this helps. I will be glad to try and answer any other questions. But please check out our SIDS site - it is very, very good.
Avatar f tn In my experience, its not so much the testing that is important as the treatment afterward. In both cases - pre and post - I would go to doctors who are experienced in working with ADHD. All too often girls get overlooked because they are not the hyper little boys running around. So it does take an experienced doctor to correctly diagnose ADD. That doctor should also be able to then point you to another doctor who will do more then just medicate.
Avatar n tn My stepson is 14years old and has been diagnosed with bipolar and ADHD, obstinant defient since he was 5. I have only been a part of his life for 2 years but in that 2 years time he has been fairly stable on his medication, at our house. His mother on the other hand has delt with multiple outburst, destructive behavior, running away from her and so on, where her only recourse is to hold him until he calms down.
Avatar m tn Hi (sorry in advance for the long post), I am a twenty year old male in Las Vegas and have been struggling with mental health problems for my whole life, but only realizing my thoughts were abnormal for the past 2 ½ years. I was first diagnosed as a child with anxiety but we thought nothing of it.
Avatar m tn OK, I will try to consult with my doctor for Zyprexa (Olanzapine). Wikipedia said FDA approved it for only Mania in bipolar patients not for depression. But I think antipsychotics also reduce depression by looking at the experiences of different people. Can Risperidone also work like Zyprexa? I am currently on it with an anti depressant.
222267 tn?1253302210 I believe we are seeing this huge TREND in Bipolar diagnosis these days. I would say in the last 10 years. People are being improperly diagnosed and it's sad to think people are on medications that could potentially harm them. In the 90's it was ADD or ADHD. Did you know that Zyprexa kills 1 in 125 people? Wow! That is astonishing to me. The fact that the FDA knew about this and approved it, is horrible to say the least.

Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with schizoaffective and adult adhd. I take abilify and citalopram for the schizoaffective disorder and vyvanse for the adhd symptoms. I find that since i have been given adhd meds, my condition has stabilized completely. I was not well on the schizoaffective meds alone. i still had problems concentrating and with focus .As well as social problems and listening to others and paying attention.
Avatar n tn Zyprexa can cause drowsiness when you first start taking it as can Lithium. It takes time for the body to adjust but if after a couple of weeks she is still very sleepy it would be worth discussing the Zyprexa again. Lithium is different for everyone but can cause drowsiness when you first start it, although that doesn't mean it definitely will. I found I was drowsy for the first couple of weeks.
1082697 tn?1260064616 i am taking citalopram and zyprexa for depression. i am on vicodin for shoulder pain. since i have been on the pills i have not needed my pain pillls. i am wondering if anyone has experienced this. did the depression cause my pain? i have not had any bad side affects on the zyprexa. in fact i have so much energy now. i tend to get into deep depression so bad i can hardly get out of bed. i have been taking the zyprexa for about 4 weeks now. the doctor put me on since my citalopram needed a boost.
Avatar m tn agitated than it is manic, per se, The Zyprexa works well for this, except for its notorious weight-gain side effects. I just can't handle the weight issues. Does anyone know of a another drug, that perhaps comes in a rapid-release form, that would make sense as a replacement for the Zyprexa? I'd prefer to take something that can be used on the as needed basis. I will ask my doctor, of course, but wanted to see about other people's experiences. Thanks!
1082697 tn?1260064616 It may not be that the Zyprexa is making you peppy, but rather that since it is controling your depression which makes us lathargic and sleepy that it seems that way. I glad it's working for you. I have heard people say negitive things about Zyprexa because they claim it made them gain weight, but I don't think those people were on a good diet or working out. You have to do that to keep the fat off.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your response Skydnsr. My "flavor" of AD/HD has been ADD or no hyperactivity and only tired. Hmm... My money is now on paroxetin, therefore I/we change that and I do no not want to change to medications at the same time. I am not shure about tapering down amphetamine. The doctor that I used to trust basically said that one can quit cold turkey.
1082697 tn?1260064616 Zyprexa can be effective for depression when combined with an antidepressant. My Psychiatrist was thinking about it for me, but I told him no and that he would have to be more creative with his meds. (I'm just not a big fan of any anti-psychotic drugs for depression and anxiety) I had my Psych prescribe me a strong Tri-cyclic and 900Mgs a day of Lithium then added Klonopin for the anxiety.
Avatar m tn t think there is any direct health risk (heart attack for example) for skipping 2-3 doses. Zyprexa have a relatively long half-life that can be more than 48 hour. The side-effects you can get from skipping doses are more neurobiological, excess dopamine for example that could produce schizophrenia symptoms, psychosis if you are treated for schizophrenia or had psychotic episodes before. 5790942 tn?1374334321 There is no magic pill or cure for w/ds unfortunately and sometimes, people make choices to take medications that can cause other problems (like Oxy mentioned) or they take high doses of a medication to stave off w.ds that also cause risks. There are some meds that can help symptomatically treat w/ds that are pretty low risk and non addictive. To look for something to take it away completely though just isn't realistic.
Avatar f tn I also read somewhere in the internet that there were lawsuits against manufacturers of Zyprexa for using the medication for off label use and apparently covering up data that the medication causes diabetes. I am just curious how freely is Zyprexa prescribed for anxiety disorders outside Australia? I will certainly discuss this with my doctor when I see him next, but I welcome anyone who has more knowledge on this matter. Thanks.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?

Avatar n tn About 4 or 5 years ago I became very very depressed. There was a lot of things going on - it was horrible. Recently, I went to the doctor for ADHD (after putting this off year after year) I briefly spoke about the depression to him and he mentioned Bipolar II. I said, oh no I was just depressed - I was immature and blah blah blah. So, I get prescribed Vyvanse and nothing - just extreme tension and irritability.

739988 tn?1386672969 I like the Zyprexa because it works really well for me. I guess I am just wondering if there is anyone else out there like me?
559058 tn?1215810834 I'm bp, been on Zyprexa for 5 yrs off and on, gained weight of course, and know that it has tons of other side effects. But I know Depakote is not without side effects either -- like constipation, liver damager etc. What's worse? Plus, I know it causes weight gain also. What do you guys think? Thanks!
1257808 tn?1322762215 Since I increased Zyprexa to 20mg, I became sleep for very long time. Most of the day sleep or sleepy. I'm not sure what to do. Continue on this dose (20mg) until my body deal with it or decrease the dose to 15mg.
