Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa effects

zyprexa

Avatar n tn I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
559058 tn?1215810834 I dont have any bad side effects and even my sex life is great. For me the zyprexa is so much better. I think depakote andlithium should be take off the market. But again thait is my opinion. There are much better meds out there than those two.
Avatar m tn The dose you took is relatively small, but it can still cause side-effects and withdrawal effects. Did your doctor prescribe this to you? If you are having trouble sleeping, there are many other techniques and medications that can be used.

Zyprexa is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression). The most commonly reported side effects are sleepiness or excessive sleeping, dizziness, dry mouth and weight gain. Other side effects include akathisia (an inability to sit still), constipation, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension and tremors.
3136619 tn?1345387321 I am wondering if anyone has tried Zydis. I haven't heard much about it on these boards. I've gained enough weight on regular Zyprexa and wonder if anyone has had fewer side effects with Zydis.
874521 tn?1424116797 Zyprexa is still on the market. There was just a concern at the time that the company under reported the rate at which it causes diabetes. That issue has been addressed. All atypical antipsychotics can cause diabetes, Zyprexa being the one with the greatest potential.
Avatar n tn I have been on 10mg's of zyprexa and it seems to me that this drug is still very strong in the morning and I am very anxious. Later on in the day I feel better. Is this a side effect?
1082697 tn?1260064616 Sometimes Zyprexa can be used with an antidepressant such as Fluoxetine (Prozac). Zyprexa can be dosed at different amounts depending on the diagnosis, so I do not know if your dose is low. Antidepressants often have many side effects listed. Legally, the manufacturers must list every single adverse event that occurred in patients who were taking their drug. This does not mean that you will experience all of the side effects listed.
Avatar f tn Metformim is a medication used to control or prevent the onset of diabetes and/or regulate blood sugar and this is how it helps with these potential side effects of Zyprexa but you could discuss the specifics with your psychiatrist. What you describe are potential side effects of concern from Metformim so you should inform your psychiatrist.
Avatar m tn In this case a google search for haloperidol and zyprexa can give you information on both drugs and how they work and their side effects so when your brother sees his doctor he can ask the right questions.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist has just added Zyprexa to take with Prozac as the Prozac is not working like it used to work.I'm worried about the weight gain with Zyprexa, is there something else that could be used with the Prozac instead? Also until now I've also been taking 1 mg. Ativan in the morning and 1 mg Ativan before bed. Is it safe to use Ativan with the Zyprexa?
Avatar m tn t stop taking your lamotrigine unless you talk to the pdoc first, just saying these are listed side effects. Lamotrigine is a really good drug for bipolar and side effects usually wane after a few months. Since you were only on Ziprexa for 4 months, chances are really minimal that any permanent damage was done. If you are not having movement related issues - smacking lips, drooling, etc. it shouldn't be anything permanent.

Avatar n tn i have been diagnosed with bi polar for over 7 months now and the meds still arent right, the doctors are trying so hard but i have a hard time staying on them because zyprexa makes me a zombie and a crazy one at that now i am getting all these medical symptoms an di dont know if it's "in my head" or real anymore someone help me.....
Avatar f tn The numbness very well could be a side effect of the Zyprexa (although not a commonly reported one), but first, let me ask you a few questions. Do you have any history of high blood pressure, or heart disease? If so, you may want to just play it on the safe side and get checked. In the very least, give your PCP a call and explain the symptoms. It very well is likely nothing to be concerned about, but it is always better to err on the side of caution when having these kinds of symptoms.
Avatar n tn My Boyfriend (rather ex-boyfriend) had the same problem, he gained 40lb while on xyprexa (50 mg!!). It does cause weight gain, however if this is what helps you manage the disorder, that is more important than weight gain. Recently, my boyfriend stopped taking his medication, and went into a manic state. Your piece of mind is way more important than anything. While on xyprexa, kinda try to change your habits: stay active and eat small meals when you have a craving. I hope this helps.
Avatar n tn i was put on the medication zyprexa, are there any symptoms such as diahrea that can occur from taking the medication for about 3 months and then discontinuing the medication?
Avatar n tn Went to therapist today, then to prescribing Phyciatrist changed meds to immediate Zyprexa 10mil to calm her down and Lithium. She has only taken the 10mil of Zyprexa and is totally out of it (like drunk or something) sleeping. I'm worried.....already know to cut down the Zyprexa but am afraid to even give her the lithium. Please help...all I get is the same run around and answers from every dr. even the hospital ER....Can you advise what to do?
1257808 tn?1322762215 Since I was on Zyprexa, I started eat a lot. I can't stop eating. I change the medication to abilify but I still eat too much. My current medications are Abilify 7.5mg, Gabapentin 800mg, Citalpram 40mg. Now my weight increased 15 kg. That's too much.
Avatar f tn (still dealing with it, right now i am suffering from severe sleep deprivation and some really wierd symptoms like confusion, memory loss, severe inattention, etc.....look up zyprexa side effects and withdrawal, it can do some really messed up stuff to you. But on the other hand, not everyone reacts that way.
698408 tn?1256958348 If given a choice between an antipsychotic (Zyprexa) and a mood stabilizer (Depakoate) I would choose Depakoate. Zyprexa does have the risk of tardive dyskinesia. If a person needs an antipsychotic of course they have to take one but Depakoate does not have that risk. Zyprexa also has a severe risk for diabetes. All of the atypicals do but Zyprexa is most likely to.
520191 tn?1355635402 Simple question can you take two anti-pyschotic medications at once? And if you can is it better than an a anti-depressant for a mixed mood? - this is because i am on seroquel for anxiety and sleep and i don't want to come off it but i have the choice of going on venlfaxine or zyprexa so if i chose zyprexa would i have to come off the seroquel. I am being treated for bipolar at the moment mixed state.
Avatar f tn As LCC has said, having a reaction like that to the serzone could well be an indicator of BP. I would hope however that your Doctor didn't jump to this conclusion based purely on this incident. I expect he has looked at your husbands history and spoken to him in some depth before suggesting this. In order to get a definite diagnosis (either way) he does really need to be seen by a psychiatrist and I would suggest you go about organising this.
