Avatar f tn frame), I was diagnosed with an eating disorder (anorexia with binge eating). Instead of slowly reaquainting myself with food at small portions during the day and allowing myself to accept my appearance in the mirror, I got frusterated and ( I hate to say this) overdosed on some pills. I'm doing okay now, as I was hospitalized in the ER for 5 days, and had to consult a therapist to get me back on track. However, my doctor had to change my medication to Celexa/ Geodon.
Avatar m tn It can be prescribed to treat many different mental illnesses and mood disorders, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression. Have you been diagnosed with a certain disorder, or is this med being recommended for your mental state during w/d? There are some considerations when on Zyprexa, you will have to have occasional blood work done, as Zyprexa can cause high blood sugar, increased cholesterol and lipids.
Avatar m tn On Zyprexa I began to experience Edema and weight gain, which was not great considering I have battled an eating disorder for the past 18 years. I called my doctor and he told me to just stop taking the zyprexa and the edema would go away. I asked him if I should wean down and he said no that there are no withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar m tn Zyprexa (olanzapine) is an atypical antipsychotic medication. Exactly how it works is not known. It is thought to work by changing the actions of certain chemicals in the brain. Zyprexa is used to treat the symptoms of psychotic conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder (manic depression) in adults and children who are at least 13 years old. Zyprexa is sometimes used together with other antipsychotic medications or antidepressants.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder about 7 months ago. My depressive side is much more dominant than my manic side. They firsy put me on lamictal and I wound up in the hospital with serious rashes. Now, I am on zyprexa qhich makes me want to eat everything in sight. It seems to have me syabilized but now I have read about the countess thousands of people who have gotten diabetes from taking zyprexa. I have high blood sugar anyway, so I assume I am at high risk. What should I do? Switch meds?
Avatar f tn How to Stop Taking Zyprexa (olanzapine) Your doctor should be recommending that you reduce your dosage of Zyprexa by 5mg a day every six days if you need to discontinue Zyprexa. Making it a week is just easier to remember. You can stop immediately if it’s an emergency, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that without a doctor’s supervision. The major problem with stopping antipsychotics is a sudden return of your symptoms.
Avatar m tn I'm prescribed Zyprexa in the "Zydis" rapid-dissolve form, 5mg, as needed "for agitation". I'm bi-polar, and sometimes I get worked up to a state that is more frustrated & agitated than it is manic, per se, The Zyprexa works well for this, except for its notorious weight-gain side effects. I just can't handle the weight issues.
589824 tn?1238796813 She has experienced extreme weight gain and that is making her more depressed. She was a heavy drug user for 5 or 6 years straight and that was one of the things the Dr. told her increased her disorder. Are there any meds out there that wont effect her weight gain and will help her feel better? I know a lot of those meds do cause weight gain, but are there any that wont as much? Thanks so much for hearing me out and any advice is greatly appreciated.
1257808 tn?1322762215 Since I was on Zyprexa, I started eat a lot. I can't stop eating. I change the medication to abilify but I still eat too much. My current medications are Abilify 7.5mg, Gabapentin 800mg, Citalpram 40mg. Now my weight increased 15 kg. That's too much.

Avatar f tn See my post entitled "zyprexa withdrawal or sleep disorder" (still dealing with it, right now i am suffering from severe sleep deprivation and some really wierd symptoms like confusion, memory loss, severe inattention, etc.....look up zyprexa side effects and withdrawal, it can do some really messed up stuff to you. But on the other hand, not everyone reacts that way.
Avatar n tn Antipsychotics will all cause tardive dyskinesia and put a person at risk for diabetes and Zyprexa is the prime offender for diabetes. But when Zyprexa worsened my paranoia years ago and it happenned to a friend of mine I knew what was going on. But that's not a "common" side effect. As for "safe" we should be factual.
Avatar m tn Between now and then, I have been diagnosed with OCD, Social anxiety disorder, GAD, major depressive disorder, ADHD, and most recently, aspergers/high functioning autism. I have also been told by a highly rated local psychiatrist that I have the worst anxiety he has ever seen. No therapist or psychologist can help, some even say out loud that I “perplex” them or to look somewhere else.
Avatar n tn I've been taking zyprexa for almost 6 months and am still suffering side effects. I get blurred vision and fogginess which makes it hard to concentrate. I'm sleepy all of the time and could fall asleep at my desk if I could. I've had bipolar disorder for 10 years and have never been sleepy all of the time. In the past, prior to this medicine, I've always had troubles sleeping. Does anyone else have the same problems as me?
Avatar n tn I have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and have tried a number of medications at different times, usually a combination of 2 or 3 of the following: lithium, prozac, lexapro, seroquel, abilify, risperdal, klonopin, vistaril, zyprexa, ambien, rozerem, & depakote. Zyprexa, Benadryl, Depakote, and Seroquel have caused me to twitch and feel like my skin is crawling an hour (or a few) after I take them.
Avatar f tn ADs and BP disorder are always an interesting conundrum. I know that there have been extensive studies regarding a Zyprexa/Prozac combination for BP disorder. Those studies have shown to be effective. If you and your pdoc are thinking about going with Prozac, I would probably look into using it with Zyprexa. The ADs can be hit or miss, especially with BP folks. I know that I (along with many BP friends) have had serious issues with all of the ADs.
8798274 tn?1399988458 I am not anxious, paranoid or depressed now but I cannot sleep without taking gabapentin (I am never tired or sleepy, there are other people describing a situation similar to mine after stop taking Zyprexa). I am worry, because the same way Zyprexa can make people have diabetes, it can permanently disrupt other psychological process in the brain an produce this chronic insomnia. I am incline to think that the damage is at the hypothalamus, I am never hungry or thirsty.

Avatar m tn I have wanted my son off zyprexa for awhile. Everytime he comes off an amount by the 3rd day he gets sucidal. how do I wean him off safely? How do you wean off this medication slowly and safely. It has never helped his depression, he has started lithium and seems okay, he was extremely senitivie to all medications, like zoloft prozac, all very bad.
Avatar m tn I was given 10 mg Zyprexa by my pdoc for about four months. It stopped working, so he took me off of it. I went from 10mg to 5 mg for a week, then to 2.5mg for a week, then off. This is the 12th day and I've been experiencing intense withdrawal: An extreme anxiety that I've never before experienced, an indescribable, awful feeling, insomnia/early waking, severe and persistent diarrhea, dry heaves and throwing up, unable to eat, etc.
Avatar n tn For the 2 years, he has been on the same meds, concerta 54mg bid, welbutrin SR 150 bid, depakote 500mg in am and 1000mg in pm and zyprexa zyda 10mg, within the last 3 months methylphenidate 10mg was added to his regimen for problems his mother feels like he is having at home.

1040884 tn?1253053996 I am wondering if I may be bipolar disorder. My mom passed away on August 17, 2009 suddenly in our home and I found her. For the last few years I have been experiencing highs and lows. When I have highs they are not over the top but I feel wonderful!!! Usually last 3 days then I become depressed which last longer. I go from getting alot done and being energetic, happy, nice to depressed with anxiety and extreme irritability.

Avatar n tn I am so sorry that a Dr. would prescribe this class of drug for insomnia. Were you diagnosed as psychotic, bipolar, or something else? This class of drugs are called antipsychotics. When we need quality sleep, there are plenty of sleep aids available that are quite effective - Ambien, Sonata, etc., to name a few. Who is rx'ing this drug to you? If you want to get off of this, I suggest you find another physician, hopefully a well qualified psychiatrist, who will help you in the withdrawal.
Avatar f tn My doctor suspected I was going to be psychotic becuase my boyfriend broke up with me while I was havely overworked. I had a panic reaction and my doctor gave me zyprexa. I used it for 3 months and I stopped cold turkey because I had uncontrolled movement of arms and legs. The worst withdrawal effects that I suffer from are extreme apathy and insomnia. I have seen posts from others that suffer from this as well, but untill now it doesn't get better and I get worried.
