Zyprexa and withdrawal

Common Questions and Answers about Zyprexa and withdrawal

zyprexa

Avatar m tn I called my doctor and he told me to just stop taking the zyprexa and the edema would go away. I asked him if I should wean down and he said no that there are no withdrawal symptoms. I started to experience nausea, which was a lot like experiencing morning sickness during pregnancy, then came the headaches, chills, severe depression and the pupil dilation. I felt as though my brain was being squeezed.
Avatar n tn It has been almost two weeks since I withdrawn from zyprexa and it looks like it is getting worse everyday. I have used this medication for 1.5 months and my highest dosage was 10 mg that I took for 7 days. Im feeling very weird, not alert or not conscious at all. It feels like Im some kinda zombie without emotions. I canĀ“t even sleep well at night, Im a sleep but awake at the same time. I get panic attacks because Im scared I will be like this forever.

Avatar f tn The thing with the atypical-antipsychotics is they have been marketed to drs for off label uses like sleep and anxiety but these are powerful drugs and if not truley needed there are better routes or medication to take. Like I said in my case the Zyprexa was not needed for GAD at all and there were and are alot better alternatives. So these drugs can be life savers for poeple if turley needed but be careful for off lable uses, which seems like what is going on in your case.
Avatar m tn Has anyone been given this to help stabalize their mood, during withdrawal? If so, please share with me if you benefited from this, and is this addictive as well?
1623698 tn?1299161234 How long does it take and how do I reduce the amount? I've been changed from Zyprexa to Seroquel because my depression came back. Within days I was extremely dizzy and nauseous and I concluded that it was withdrawal from Zyprexa so the Psychiatrist said to go back on it. Two months later, when I was feeling better, we tried it again but the same thing happened. By this time I was being told that I had an inner ear problem or it was caused by the new med.
Avatar f tn My dd is 17, was on Zyprexa for years (like 7 or 8 years) along with lithium carb and others than changed as time went on. She was mostly fine on it until 2 years ago when she started to gain weight. I had noticed cognitive dulling, she has struggled in school quite a bit, after being a straight A student for the first four years of her schooling. We tried to get her off of it last year and it was a huge fiasco, she was a wreck for 2-3 months, alternately sobbed and screamed and rarely slept.
Avatar f tn (still dealing with it, right now i am suffering from severe sleep deprivation and some really wierd symptoms like confusion, memory loss, severe inattention, etc.....look up zyprexa side effects and withdrawal, it can do some really messed up stuff to you. But on the other hand, not everyone reacts that way.
Avatar m tn It is probably not a good idea to use Zyprexa (which is an antipsychotic) as a sleep aid. Zyprexa can cause both sedation and insomnia. The dose you took is relatively small, but it can still cause side-effects and withdrawal effects. Did your doctor prescribe this to you? If you are having trouble sleeping, there are many other techniques and medications that can be used.
Avatar m tn I was given 10 mg Zyprexa by my pdoc for about four months. It stopped working, so he took me off of it. I went from 10mg to 5 mg for a week, then to 2.5mg for a week, then off. This is the 12th day and I've been experiencing intense withdrawal: An extreme anxiety that I've never before experienced, an indescribable, awful feeling, insomnia/early waking, severe and persistent diarrhea, dry heaves and throwing up, unable to eat, etc.
Avatar f tn My doctor suspected I was going to be psychotic becuase my boyfriend broke up with me while I was havely overworked. I had a panic reaction and my doctor gave me zyprexa. I used it for 3 months and I stopped cold turkey because I had uncontrolled movement of arms and legs. The worst withdrawal effects that I suffer from are extreme apathy and insomnia. I have seen posts from others that suffer from this as well, but untill now it doesn't get better and I get worried.
Avatar n tn My son is experiencing 7.5 mg zyprexa withdrawel I believe. He has been in bed on and off for 4 days with headache and very sick to stomach. How long with this go on????? What can help the stomach???? He has only been on this med for 3 months. I would hate to see what someone on this for years would go through!
Avatar n tn I have recently been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and my Doc said I should come off Zyprexa as it is not good for people with diabetes.
Avatar f tn My neighbor takes Zyprexa, and another anti-anxiety, along with an antidepressant and several other meds for body health problems. It seems to me ,as I visit with her most afternoons, that Z, which she has been on since being released from a hospital years ago, is probably the most helpful with sleep. She will be taking it for the rest of her life. Only alternative to being put in facility. Guess what you are experiencing is body getting used to you not taking.
5093508 tn?1390543931 t mean that this will happen on Zyprexa). I too, have looked into the side-effects of Zyprexa and find them disturbing, particularly for us older folks. I would ask to see the studies and protocols for the efficacy of this particular drug coming off of benzos. I also find it a red flag that your Dr. prescribed Ambien when you expressed a wish to wean off Benzos and Benzo-type drugs.
8798274 tn?1399988458 There are a lot of people with chronic insomnia and the common factor is Zyprexa withdrawal. Must be an explanation for that. I am thinking to report my case to FDA. Maybe they can open a research and find the cure.

Avatar n tn placed me on Abilify and my heart palpitation was so severe that I had to go back on Zyprexa. I am taking 1.5 mg of kolonopin for anxiety and 2.5 mg of zyprexa now.Tried to cut out the medication completely but my simptoms returned so I can't do without any medication. Are there any other medication in the market that is similar to Zyprexa that would not effect my liver enzyme? Used Efexor but had heart palpitation.
Avatar f tn my daughter quit taking her zyprexia 5 mg and zoloft 150 mg. What withdrawal symptoms will she have? She has been on zyprexia and zoloft for approximately 10 months.
Avatar m tn 5 was just wondering.......because I feel so mentally down, some depression, crazy thoughts, mind racing over things that worry me. I cant seem to control my thoughts from going there. I feel sad alot. At this point I just dont know. Well anyhow about 2-3 wks ago,in the midst of withdrawal, I did go see my doc, I did not tell him I was in withdrawal this time, I did tell him once last year, that was when I got clean for just about a year.

Avatar n tn When I was in college I had from time to time insomnia problems (2,3 days without sleeping) and a light depression. The doctor recommended zyprexa.Strangely, after taking zyprexa for 1,2 months, I wasn't able to learn anything for school and because of that I had a panic attack - didn't left house for a month - I can't understand how did it happen. So, I've been taking zyprexa for 7 years. I want to quit now but I have little success.
Avatar m tn Hi and thanks for responding. I did not know zyprexa was similar to Klonopin. My Doc gave to me to help stabalize my mood, but he didnt know I was in withdrawal. I am just afraid of taking becuz it is used for schizophrenia, bipolar, and mood disorders. My doc told me I had signs of bipolar, merely becuz I had come to him in tears a few times. Then he told me to use the zyprexa to stabalize my mood.
Avatar n tn I was zyprexa for 13 years. Doc try gradual lower it but was so fear of the withdrawal that they put me on various other meds at the same time. Is that the cause of unsuccess? The problem is I am suffering and would like to try repeat the same treatment of lowing the dosage. I would like to know is it that the longer I am on the harder to wean it off? Please help!!! Hope can I control myself from bad withdrawal so that doc will not be afraid to lower it?
Avatar n tn He now takes concerta, welbutrin and zyprexa at 7am, welbutrin again at 4pm, 1500mg of depakote at 6pm and concerta and zyprexa at 8pm. The last two weekends in rw at our house there has not been any problems, no problems sleeping and no sudden mood swings.
