Avatar m tn When he was brought into the ER, his suger was 17. He was diagnosed today as being in an acute vegetative state. What does that really mean? What are his chances of survial? What exactly does the "acute" mean?
Avatar n tn Hi, Thanks for writing in. Vegetative state is one in which where there is severe brain damage which leads to a state of wakefulness without detectable awareness. But in your father's case, he was idle all these days beacuase of sedation. And also after weaning of sedation he is responding quite actively (with in 2 days). What surgery did he undergo? And what was the reason for sedation for so long? Was he on ventilator in the post operative period?
Avatar m tn my father has been on a vegetative state for 6 years now, he can't speak nor move any limb; we don't even know if he could understand us, he never makes any kind of gesture. He's on feeding tube and tracheostomy. he could blink his eyes and be awake for hours, also he gets startled. I've been pretending to be strong in front of my family but I always cry on my bed each night. I've extended my hope and patience more than I imagined.
Avatar f tn They have started weening him off the ventilator and he is coping well with this but his responsiveness has dropped. I am worried he is going to be in a vegetative state. He is responding to pain but not as consistently as before. Any advice would be gratefully received.
Avatar n tn My brother who was in a vegetative state, had a feeding tube and trach began to vomit which looked like coffee grounds???
Avatar n tn her and send her to long-term care but they believe she will live in a persistent vegetative state until infection/pneumonia or something takes her. I don't even know what to think. My mother has always been a very strong woman and I would like to give her a fighting chance. I felt like they were rooting for me to give the go ahead to pull the plug, but it's a hard choice to make alone and I'm 23. It's so very hard.
Avatar n tn Do you think that it is a balanced ************** for my case as described?
Avatar f tn It affects my life, I fall asleep in the morning hours and sleep well into the afternoon. I currently take 200-300 mg trazodone, 1.5-2 mg clonazepam, and 10-20 mg zolpidem. What else is there for insomnia? I was on 100mg seroquel for insomnia. I hate the way it makes me feel; but it does work. I am now going back and forth with the pharmacy that dispenses the seroquel; I get mine through the AZandMe free meds program.
Avatar f tn The mystery is that they are now saying that her infections are cleared up, yet she has started to decline greatly again to the point where she is practically in a vegetative state. The doctors can’t figure out why. We are grabbing at straws and looking for hope to figure out what is causing her to continue to go downward, when she was mentally fine and even walking in December 2023.
Avatar m tn Look at the prescription bottle to see which company manufactured the zolpidem. For many years a pharmacy sent me 90 day supplies of zolpidem from Mylan (manufacturer) which worked well. Then one time I noticed the color of the pills had changed to white and the shape was a little different. Those pills were from Teva (manufacturer) and gave me headaches, dizziness and a general sense of unwellness.
1218873 tn?1300091216 I need to be awake and all systems firing for that day and after a long conversation about whether I could not go, or may be fly instead of coaching it, he gave a prescription for Zolpidem sleeping tablets 5mg. I have a tendency to wake up in the middle of the night and lie in bed with leg and arm pain a bit like flu but with out the fever for several hours. The idea of the sleeping tablet is to give me a full nights sleep, so I am brighter the next day.
Avatar m tn My father had a stroke in July and at the time he didn't qualify for therapy... he was in a semi vegetative state & required a peg tube. He was discharged to a skilled nursing home & his prognosis was not great. We started the process of applying for Medicaid for long term care which he was approved for. However, my father was a fighter and began to recover quickly!
Avatar m tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Insomnia is a side effect of Amitriptyline. But you may develop tolerance to this effect. However if it persists, discuss your symptoms with your consulting doctor he may change the dose or the medications. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
4149717 tn?1389503561 Zolpidem Zolpidem should normally be taken for short periods of time. If you take zolpidem for 2 weeks or longer, zolpidem may not help you sleep as well as it did when you first began to take the medication. If you take zolpidem for a long time, you also may develop dependence ('addiction,' a need to continue taking the medication) on zolpidem. Talk to your doctor about the risks of taking zolpidem for 2 weeks or longer.
Avatar m tn Any of you guys have an opinion on usgae low dose to zolpidem 5mg along with 25/50mg of diphenhydramine.....does one cancel out other or issing together worse on liver or not.....?
Avatar f tn I previously alternated between temazepam and zolpidem for sleep. I also take gabapentin. Three weeks ago I stopped temazepam and tramadol. I am taking zolpidem every night now and continue gabapentin 3x a day. I don't crave either of the meds I quit, but I have been experiencing inability to concentrate, ringing in my ears, vomiting, blurry vision, sweating, confusion, anxiety and mood swings. The symptoms wax and wane and I can't find a pattern.
Avatar n tn said if she makes it thru she will be in a complete vegetation state. After a brain damage, is there anything else that can be done? How can I get more information about brain damage, and what to do?
1580703 tn?1651904887 I found these drugs that could possibly help. I use zolpidem and it seems to help and am trying to get restoril. This disease is destroying my career and life. Thanks very much! Acetazolamide (Diamox): Acetazolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor that causes bicarbaturia and metabolic acidosis, which presumably shifts the apneic threshold of PaCO2 to a lower level.
Avatar n tn d go straight into a panic so they started me on zolpidem 10 at night. I have been on it for 18 months now and zolpidem does not work, and I don't want to take more, so will try wean off that, but I know what will happen, back to adrenalin rushes...plus Xanax seems to have no effect, but if I don't take it, I know I have'nt, if that makes sense. Am I on too much here?
Avatar m tn i can relate. i guess a bit of all this is the steroids and MS flair in general. i didn't sleep well in the hospital either. i'll probably take a sleeper for the next few nites to get caught up on sleep.
Avatar f tn s generic form zolpidem. it has always work up until two months ago when apparently the pharmacy changed suppliers. i took the little round purle pill up until then and now i take a white oval one. This one does not seem to be working as well and the side effect just seem wierd Does anyone think that the new manufacturer product is inferior and has anyone experienced this?
18070169 tn?1463175914 At this time I was also taking zolpidem every night. I read some stuff on zolpidem side effects and it appeared that after my surgery some of the rare side effects started cropping up. I attributed my anxiety to that. So I quit the zolpidem ct (which I probably shouldn't have) and did have a miserable few weeks, but a lot of the pains I was feeling went away. Of course new pains showed up like a back ache, which I still have.
Avatar f tn m not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in, since I have never abused medications, but I think I might be experiencing withdrawal symptoms from prescription medications, so I thought I would seek information here. I previously alternated between temazepam and zolpidem for sleep. I also take gabapentin. Three weeks ago I stopped temazepam and tramadol. I am taking zolpidem every night now and continue gabapentin 3x a day.
Avatar m tn I am prescribed 12.5mg. of zolpidem but my insurance will only cover RX for 10mg. Is this safe to switch?
Avatar n tn hello!
