Zoloft and xanax side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft and xanax side effects

Avatar m tn It has been over 7 days since my last xanax and i take 100mg zoloft in the morning. I drink alcohol and sometimes take a benadryl (50mg) to fall asleep before 4AM. I still get the same feelings as before, it's hard to tell if they are as profound as before, but they are still there and keeping me stiff and anxious all over. My stomach feels like a grinder, constantly just pulsing like it is hungry even though it is full as can be.
Avatar f tn definitely utilize the Xanax as per your doc's instructions to help with the side effects and try to be patient (as hard as that is). A LOT of times with these meds, we have to feel a little bit worse before we can start feeling better. Good luck, let us know how you're doing!
Avatar m tn I woke up this morning worried about side effects and felt like my heart was racing and going to beat out of my chest. I took 2 xanax (which I've been taking for years) and feel like I'm calming down, but I'm worried this racing heart is a side effect or if it's just my anxiety of taking the new medication. I want to get my life back but I think I'm afraid even this won't work. Would appreciate any advice or feedback.
Avatar f tn I believe you can continue to take your Ativan as it is in a different class of drugs from your other meds. BUT.................I am NOT a doctor nor a pharmacist and I will tell you right now that you MUST check this out with someome with real knowledge of the interactions of medications. And that is NOT me! Zoloft, an antidepressant, normally reaches steady state in about a week and in my humble opinion, you should not still be feeling "really anxious and nervous.
Avatar f tn 6 to 8 weeks is when you should have therapeutic effect and hopefully feel better. Side effects happen and there are some that are only in the beginning called transient side effects. They usually get less and less as you stay on it and gone by 6 weeks. Insomnia could be part of that. Time will tell. You are on a very low dose though. It will typically take a higher dose to really treat it. Is your doctor planning to increase the dose?
Avatar m tn all of the above fears or disorders i have mentioned started happening after i took xanax and now i am xanax free for a week, but still sufffer from its side effects from time to time.. i do feel better over time and then do not feel better..... it will take weeks before i will fully recover... i dont like psychiatrists myself... ......
Avatar m tn I have been on zoloft for two weeks and the side effects are still pretty bad, without any benefits (it seems like it has been two years!). (I have tried lexapro, paxil, and celexa, but zoloft was the first AD I have taken and from my first experience seemed to produce the least side effects for me (although this time seems bad). I know it takes awhile for SSRI's to get working and initial side effects are common. I started taking 25mgs for a week and have been on 50mgs for a week.
Avatar n tn Is it safe to take Xanax and Zoloft together? and what are the possible side effects? Weight gain?
Avatar n tn My doctor is now suggesting that I slowly stop taking Xanax and replace it with Paxil. With all of the horrible stories and side effects of Paxil, is there a reason that I just can't continue taking Xanax as I have been? I do realize that it is habit forming, but with Paxil, you can't just quit taking that either and I don't see that Xanax has the same horror stories attached that Paxil does.
311051 tn?1193419806 Yes, the xanax helps, I don't have side affects from it. At first you may feel tired right after taking it though, What happenend to me was I developed a tolerance and had to keep raising the dose. That is the only bad thing, the body developes a tolerance and the dose that you start with isn't enough anymore. I feel addicted now because I take it every 4 hours and that doesn't seem like enough. Are you on any benzo's right now?
Avatar n tn Just started 1/2 of 50mg of Zoloft and feel a bit groggy and take 1mg xanax at night. Hope it works, my new Love things a couple of hits on the wacky tabacky does the same thing.
Avatar n tn Also, keep in mind that it usually takes 2-6 weeks for the full therapeutic effects of Zoloft to take effect (shorter time for anxiety and longer time for depression symptoms to subside) and many people have unpleasant side-effects for the first week of taking Zoloft. These usually subside after this time. You may want to think about whether the potential benefits of taking Zoloft outweigh the side-effects you currently experience that could quickly pass when your body adjusts to the SSRI.
Avatar n tn I took both drugs together for 3 1/2 months and now I off the Zoloft but I was only on 25 mg. The main side effect of Zoloft was I felt very subdued to point I stopped taking under doctors supervison. The biggest hurdle now is getting of the Clonzepam and Trazodone because I use them for sleep.
Avatar f tn I have been on zoloft for years and when I have had to change doses I do not have any side effects as long I take my meds consistently, and step the meds up or down how my doctor says.
Avatar n tn I started with a new phychyatrist, and he told me to stop taking all these medicines, and 2 weeks ago put me on zoloft 50 mg, and .25 of xanax 4 x day,for 1 week then he doubled it the following week. I feel worse than I did before. I think the lexapro and klonopin were a better choice for me. Does anyone ever get a "burning sensation across their chest at times befor having a panic attack, or befor your heart races? This has happen several times to me.
Avatar m tn Another benzo, Klonopin, on the other hand IS appropriate for more of a long-term use b/c it doesn't share the tolerance issues of Xanax or Ativan. It truly sounds to me that the Zoloft started working for you and the side effects just became too much for you (which is very common). But, like I said above, there ARE ways to deal with that other than just stopping the med all together. I honestly think you should give the Zoloft another try, under the care of the p-doc.
Avatar n tn I took Zoloft for about five years and it was great for me -- minimal side effects that passed in a week or two, good anti-depressant effect. 50 mg is a very low dose (I was up to 200 mg at one point). I didn't have any weight gain other. One piece of advice I would give you is to try the medication and not think about it too much. It takes 4 - 6 weeks for to get the full effect so during that time, take the pill and don't worry about it.
Avatar n tn Diazepam (valium) is great because it haves an extremely long half-life which means I can skip a day or 2 without too much side effects. Anyway my words on Xanax is take them only when needed and if you think you are about to be addicted switch to Klonopin or even diazepam...
Avatar n tn I have been on the max dose of zoloft for over 2 years along with xanax and therapy. I could not function without them. Zoloft needs to stay in your system. You and suppose to take at sametime everyday. I go to a shrink they specialize in these meds. They take at least 3 weeks to start working and you can only increase dose in small amounts. You cannot not skip then make up dose the next day. These drugs are mind altering and should not be played with but they do work if taken correctly.
Avatar n tn Zoloft has an effect on the chollingergic nervous symptom, and that is why there are vision side effects. If you and your doctor decide to stop zoloft, your winding down schedule is almost right...add a third week of 25 mg. every third day, then stop.
Avatar n tn they generally prescribe anti depressants for anxiety disorders.. I am on them for that.. and i have xanax in case of a panic attack.. don't need em very often.. Lexapro helped my anxiety sooooo much.. never tried zoloft... I always ask for ones that are "weight neutral" as far as side effects I am small and don't wanna lost weight but I don't wanna gain weight either..
Avatar n tn that works well for me and I have been fighting this off and on for 2 years. I am about to start taking zoloft and before it made me feel weird and spacey. Is this normal at first? I just want to be happy and back to how I use to feel. I have every reason to be happy. I pray everyday to get better. Is zoloft a good one to take?
Avatar n tn It seems to work wonders and has no side effects that I can see. I take it about an average two times a week when the prospect of being on the pump and anesthesia, etc. rushes in to give me the oogly booglies and the reports about Drs. and Hospitals hit the newswires! Meditation as suggested above is helpful but Xanax seems to put me back into control more immediately and works very well if I must be alert or on the job.
Avatar f tn took it again almost two months ago and didn't like it (first week was good, but then it didn't do anything). Told the doctor, she switched me to Zoloft, nothing...except two weeks later these side effects and also the aggression.
955560 tn?1250198145 If it makes you feel any better, I am currently taking a high dosage Tri-cyclic antidepressant, and 900Mgs of Lithium, and 200Mgs a day of Lamictal, and 2.50Mgs a day of Xanax. That's enough medication to knock a horse on it's ***. I'm still alive.
Avatar f tn I tried Zoloft when I was a teenager for depression and sleep issues. It did great for the sleep issue. Clonopin I have not taken. But have not heard anything good. I did not like Paxil at all as a female, It killed all want and desire. I personally like Lexapro. It manages both depression and anxiety. Like most other RX's it take 3 to 6 weeks to get fully in your system. Mean while xanax during the 3 to 6 period of time. What I judge a medication on is this: Am I groggy?
Avatar n tn I am currently doing research for an upcoming book which deals with the side effects and withdrawals people have experienced from Effexor XR and other (like) anti-depressants. I am interested in receiving any information current or former users would like to share concerning their experiences with these drugs. Please email me @: beach-***@**** and thanks!
Avatar m tn I am on zoloft and have taken xanax in the past. I also have klonopin but I only take it rarely and just for the really bad anxious moments. Of course run this by your doctor.
