Zoloft and gaba

Common Questions and Answers about Zoloft and gaba

zoloft

Avatar n tn t kicked in yet, only the side effects have -- it will take 4-6 weeks to know if the Zoloft is going to work or not and this side effect may go away (or it might not, in case you'll probably need to do a different antidepressant) -- if you can handle a little discomfort for a short period of time you don't "need" the benzo, it just might be nice.
Avatar f tn Hey guys I was recently perscribed Zoloft for anxiety. It is really helping me, but I've always had sleeping problems and the Zoloft has kind of heightened that. I wasn't sleeping at all so I went back to my doctor who gave me .5 Klonopin to take at night for sleep. It is really not helping. Once I fall asleep, it keeps me asleep, but my problem is actually FALLING asleep and the klonopin doesnt make me feel tired so I'm still not falling asleep until around 3-4am.
Avatar f tn t drink alcohol as it is a depressant. Eat a little dark chocolate. Fish oil and the Amino Acids GABA and Tryptophan are great for depression. I start the day by smiling at myself in the mirror - they say it releases endorphins and makes you feel better. What have you go to lose if you try it? (PS I stopped taking my Zoloft and started dancing. More fun if you use a mirror and learn to laugh at yourself).
Avatar m tn What's the differences between CNS depression? May i know what's the causes of depression? Does it relate to the neurotransmitter? Diazepam is an anti-depressant? It enhances the effect of GABA by binding to the benzodiazepine site on the GABA A-receptor. After binding to the receptor, may i know what's the next mechanism? GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter? If GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, how does diazepam can cause anti-depress? I heard that it can treat seizure?
2033870 tn?1329481339 I have rapid cycling bipolar as well as post traumatic stress disorder. He has me on Xanax for anxiety, Zoloft and Neurontin for mood stabilizer. Can anyone tell me what they think of Neurontin and if it words? I am very intrigued to know if I am on a good medicine or if this isn't good. I don't go back to him for 3 weeks.
Avatar f tn I was on Zoloft for 15 years and I stopped for two years in the past year I've been taking buspirone 10 mg and gabapentin 300 mg twice a day it wasn't working very well so I got on trintellix 10 mg for 3 weeks causes serious anxiety,OCD and lethargy and depression. I want to get back on the Zoloft I'm still taking the buspirone in the Gabapentin but it's been 3 days since I've taken the trintellix what do I do? Taper ? Switch?
Avatar m tn No. They do different things, and target different neurotransmitters. Zoloft is an ssri, which targets selected serotonin receptors while also blocking the body's natural process for breaking down and eliminating used serotonin so used serotonin can circulate longer in the targeted receptors (and only those receptors -- other receptors will shut down because the brain will perceive them as no longer needed). Xanax targets GABA receptors, a completely different neurotransmitter.
20632981 tn?1503687567 The seizure problems are with benzodiazapenes when stopped abruptly, not with antidepressants. The main reason is that benzos target GABA, which is involved in seizures and anti-seizure meds. Other neurotransmitters are targeted by antidepressants. As for the wellbutrin, know that with any antidepressant, it takes most people 4-6 weeks for them to start working but the side effects start right away.
1131131 tn?1275108488 They had me stop the celexa. My doctor had me start Zoloft. I have been on it for six days and some of the same symptoms are starting again plus muscle tightness in the chest and throat. She told me to stop the zoloft. I asked if I should titrate it, but I was told to just stop it. She wants me to start seeing a Psychiatrist for my meds. I agree, but I am worried about any withdrawls I may have from stopping the med like that.
574118 tn?1305135284 Yes bipolar is clinically complex given that people with bipolar are at the same time as they experience mania are physically sped up as well and can have psychomoter agitation, increased libido and a decrease in sleep which can have a physical effect. Also the fact that there are many anti-convulsants that are used to treat bipolar showing that there is over activity in receptors of the limbic system.
Avatar f tn gaba is helpful for sleep and I took it when sleep was an issue...it also helps people on benzos tremendously as it is very similar to benzos in chemical make up....
Avatar f tn First, if you're on any drug such as benzos or neurontin that target GABA don't take this. Second, GABA supplements don't usually cross the blood/brain barrier, so they don't usually work. The best way to supplement for GABA, assuming you're not on medication that targets it, is to take the pseudo amino acid taurine and B6, which together with other co-factors make GABA in the body.
Avatar m tn nothing works to put me to sleep...I took 200mg of Gaba AND 15g of Temazepam and got 1 Hour of sleep!! I feel so tired that I am dizzy and feel like vomiting. I don't know whats wrong with me....maybe I am at the end of my rope and this is the end of me..
1326513 tn?1276518001 Probably not -- ativan targets GABA receptors. Don't know how frequently you take ativan. GABA isn't a particularly effective supplement for anxiety. For one thing, it can cause anxiety. For another, and most important, it doesn't cross the blood/brain barrier well. A better way to get GABA is to take taurine, which along with B-6 is what the body uses to make GABA, but since you're taking the ativan, I'd be careful about this.
Avatar m tn Hi! We used to have some Health Forums on the right side. One of them was about all the foods that help bring up the Dopamine. Like Beets, Eggs, Cottage Cheese, and so forth. I can not remember them all. I do know that Walnuts are a Brain food (this is why they look like a brain). Protien and Amino Acids are great. I also read many yrs ago about these 3 herbs.( to help build the Brain Chemistry).
Avatar f tn Has anyone else tried GABA and L-Theanine to treat benign PVCs?
Avatar n tn I used to be so happy and carefree and now i dont even want to start the day. I was just wondering if Zoloft(20mgs or less, i want a SMALL dose, really dont want addiction to be added on to this) might work for me? Anyone know side effects? Does it start working right when you take it?
Avatar f tn I take 100 mg zoloft 100mg gabapentin and .05 mg klonopin and I have tried many other meds for my depression and anxiety. but they don't help and i am sick of trying new ones. i have lost all hope that anything can help me. so how bad is it to just stop taking them?
Avatar f tn grin and bear it, in which case you might try some fish oil is healthy quantities; it is said to help with the brain zaps, or second, go back on the last dose of Zoloft at which you felt fine and taper off more slowly before fully switching to Effexor. A book called the Anti-Depressant Solution by Joseph Glanville offers helpful guidance on how to quit these meds.
Avatar f tn I am currently researching for a drug that would lower GABA level and seem to have found imipramine and desipramine (its metabolite) to be GABA transaminase agonists according to an article by Cohen published in 2002 regarding their use for infantile autism. Are there any drugs that will by any mechanism of action decrease GABA? Thanks.
4544656 tn?1371593548 I am on gabapentin 300 for 3x a day for back pain and went back to my doctor looking for a increase because of my pain level and he takes me off of it and gives me naproxen (otc stuff that didnt work before when he prescribed it) because I am also on zoloft and trileptal. I don't know what this new thing going on is about that you cannot be on more than 2 psychiatric type medications at the same time... but it's ridiculous.
Avatar m tn It worked great until 3 weeks ago when I started having more attcaks. The new Dr. gave me Xanax.5 every 8 hours and now zoloft 100mg and I am also going for CBT. can I go back to the klonopin?? I am afraid of the addiction to the Xanax?
5142668 tn?1364230745 Would you feel comfortable taking natural supplements that help with addictions? L-Glutimine, L-Carnitine and GABA come to mind. You can internet search on any of those and learn about them - Basically, these amino acids support the neurotransmitters in the body and reduce fallout from med dependency. Additionally, I took: Niacin, Licorice Root and Chromium-picolinate which was purchased at a Health Food Store. Chamomile Tea also helped.
7191139 tn?1389055599 First, antidepressants don't increase GABA in the brain. The don't work on GABA, they work on other neurotransmitters, and they don't even increase those, they just alter how the body uses them, so Abilify and ssris, for example don't target GABA. Benzos do target GABA, but don't necessarily increase it, again, they alter the way the body uses it mostly. GABA supplements don't generally cross the blood/brain barrier, so they don't usually increase GABA either.
Avatar m tn okay it was probably like six weeks ago that i smoked one joint and then my heart was beating like 130 a minute and it scared me and since then i have had EXTREME anxiety i dont know if it is a tumor or just plain anxiety i really need some guidence here i now think i have a brain tumor and am very scared. wht do you think?
612551 tn?1450022175 The active ingredient crosses the blood brain barrier and acts on the GABA neuro-receptors in the brain, the same ones affected by benzodiazapines. That said, there is probably no harm in trying it short term. There's no other way to know if it will help or not. I wouldn't use it for an extended period though. I'll be interested to hear if this helps in your case. Good luck.
