492869 tn?1285018933 Is there a medication safe for treating nausea in patients with Long QT Syndrome? I'm currently taking Zofran despite the warnings, but taking an extra beta blocker with each dose. Is there something safer I can be taking to treat my nausea? Every nausea medication I look at seems to have a "prolonged QT" warning. I'd appreciate any insight.
Avatar f tn I just say my cardiologist, he lowered my beta blocker dose and i already feel better. He believes i do NOT have long QT and the reason i had long QT intervals while in the hospital was because i was on so many drugs (i was in an induced coma, and enough drugs were in me to sedate my entire family (5 people). He told me that if it was him in that situation, his QT interval would have been elongated as well.
Avatar m tn Sounds like a horrible diet, which could cause a lot of problems, including low potassium (and long QT), anxiety, low magnesium (and long QT), vitamin defiency, etc. You need at least 3000 mg of potassium daily, and preferrably 3.500-4.700 mg (guidelines vary between countries, in Norway it's 3.700). I think your prolonged corrected QT interval was caused by 1) Mathematical overestimation from the Bazett formula due to a high heart rate, and 2) Low potassium.
Avatar m tn heart rate, what you eat, activity, stress, medications, etc. One EKG showing borderline prolonged QT is NOT diagnostic of long QT. Also, a cardiologist must interpret your EKG, as the machines often are wrong, and prolonged QT will also usually manifest with specific changes in the T wave too. There are two variants of long QT.
Avatar n tn I want to know everything there is to know about long qt. Is it genetic? Is it associated with a genetic bilateral hearing loss? Is there a syndrome that is out there that has those two diagnoses associated with it? My daughter was diagnosed with bilateral hearing loss when she was 16-18 months old. Two years she got all kinds of tests done at the U of M in Minnesota including an ECG.
Avatar f tn I ended up getting the genetic test done.. it came back negative, and the doctor says my qt values are fine, so I don't believe that I have long qt. I saw Dr. Spencer Rosero in Rochester, NY who is a specialist in long qt. When he measured my qts by hand, the highest he found is 440 for qtc. He was sure I didn't have it and he has never been wrong. Nevertheless, I ended up getting the genetic test.. low and behold it turned out negative!
Avatar f tn Long QT Syndrome is normally a lifelong condition. That being said, a prolonged QT interval can be caused by medication or electrolyte abnormalities, even in healthy individuals without Long QT Syndrome. Additionally, some individuals with Long QT Syndrome don't have a consistently prolonged QT interval. It's possible to have a occasional normal EKG, and still have Long QT Syndrome.
Avatar m tn Hi - I have some questions about long QT syndrome. I've recently had 3 EKGs because of palpitations and a fast heartbeat. I've asked the doctor who did them about long QT and each time he said there was nothing showing I had it. My QT/QTc was 350/418 on the first one I believe, on the second 362/425 and on the third 358/440. Heartbeat was 86, 83 and 91 respectively. The last one is the one that got me worried, because apparently 440 is the limit for normal.
Avatar m tn I understand that anything above 430-440ms is borderline and possibly indicative of long qt syndrome. So, I was just wondering regarding long qt syndrome, if it is what I have and it is a gene inheritance deal is sleeping a trigger of symptoms and problems for people with LQT1 and LQT2, or is that just with the rarer LQT3.? I tend to think I might have LQT1 because I am deaf in one ear.
Avatar f tn My internal medicine doctor of 12 years wants me to see a cardiologist. But it is soooooo rare to diagnose Long QT on ECG. I have had an episode of documented Long QT on ECG when I was hypokalemic (low potassium). After exhaustive research on internet, I found that the genetic blood test for Long QT Syndrome only identifies 70% of Long QT cases. So you have a 30% chance of getting a negative test and still have the syndrome. The test is $5,000 for one person.
Avatar f tn Ive noticed alot of people posting about long qt syndrome. It has never been a worry for me simply because I didnt know what it was. But from what ive read and understand about it, it is mostly hereditary, correct? And if my ekgs are normal then I have nothing to worry about? I feel like my cardio usually just glances over the ekg, it is usually laying there when she comes in and she doesnt look at it for very long. But she would know what this looks like by glancing at it right??
Avatar m tn Hello Well I'm a 27 year old female, and after an event in work had a two year journey of being told I have anxiety to get to this point.
Avatar n tn I am not a doctor so you really must consult one on this but from what I have read anti psychotics can induce long qt syndrome in rare cases. I would think stopping the drugs would mean you would revert back to normal. If this is not happening to you then you need to resolve this with your cardiologist and psychiatrist as long qt syndrome is serious business. Did you get diagnosed with long qt while on the drugs or after you stopped taking them?
Avatar n tn Both ECGs said my QT is over 500. Do I have long QT syndrome who can this be just a hiccup on the ECG. My cardiologist is referring me to an arrythmia specialist. I am scared now because I have that Long QT syndrome can cause sudden death.
Avatar f tn As you probably know, anti-depressants and antiarrhythmic drugs (class III) has QT prolonging as a side effect. You probably know long QT time increase the risk of a ventricular arrhythmia named Torsades de Pointes. The list of drugs you cannot use can be found at www.torsades.org if you don't carry the papers with you. Just so you know. SVT is usually treated with class 2 and 4 antiarrhythmic drugs (beta blockers and calcium channel blockers) that don't prolong the QT time.
1425157 tn?1311651679 Hi,I have a history of pvc and pac i take atenolol 50 mg a day for this,no high blood pressure ,,i have had many ecg and a few holters and an echo,,and an av node signal average test,,no one has ever mentioned a long qt interval before -i am haveing gall bladder surgery soon and as a precaution they sent me to internist who ordered this last holter, saw clinic doc today for results he said it showed a long qt interval and he did and ecg then and there- no long qt on that one -i was haveing an an
Avatar f tn Since I told the cardiolgist I was there for a murmur instead of the qt and he never actually saw the ecg with the long qt, could it have been missed? Is there another possible reason for a qt to be long once?
Avatar n tn Our family has LQT2 and our triggers are more often from sudden noises or frights and extreme stress and sometimes during exercise or sleep. As long as people take their medication and avoid certain medications on the Long QT Drug List episodes are usually under control. Has the rest of your family tested yet?
20794198 tn?1534529493 Specifically folks with particular types of long qt, long qt over 550 ms and long qt over 500 ms thats refractory to medical management. Overall 10 year mortality in these populations is as high as 50% without treatment. You are half right though niko, i dont think cardio is among this population. SCA from folks with concealed long qt is extremely rare.
