Zofran in dogs

Common Questions and Answers about Zofran in dogs

1916673 tn?1420236870 Dogs acquire phosphorus directly from food, and normally (in healthy dogs) any excess is excreted through the kidneys. In kidney disease the kidneys are damaged and cannot excrete excess phosphorus, which then acts like a toxic substance in the blood. Reducing phosphorus intake is therefore important (check all the foods you may be feeding, including treats, for phosphorus content). The additional way of controlling it is to introduce a phosphate binder.
Avatar f tn I take phenergan myself for constant nausea, and discovered late in the game that dogs can also take phenergan. It didn't work quite as well as the reglan, but at that point we tried anything we could get our hands on. Over the counter Dramamine for motion sickness can be tried as it is metabolized in the liver - got that info from an ER vet nearby.
1916673 tn?1420236870 Unfortunately, that means that what works on humans doesn't always work (and can in fact sometimes cause harm) for dogs. All that said, ONDANSETRON (Zofran) is safe for dogs and as an antiemetic works pretty well in most cases. It is interestingly recommended by IRIS, the International Renal Interest Society for stages 3 & 4 CKF in dogs.
Avatar n tn I am a 33 year old female who's mother was also given *Bendectin*. I have battled many health problems over the years, and also have a deformed foot. My Right foot is wider then the left by great amounts, my second and third toes are postioned in the V shape pulling away from one another a little more everyday. The third toe is my Turtle :) as I call him...(The large cushion of fatty tissue sits on top like a turtle shell) I started calling it my turtle as a way of dealing with deformity.
585414 tn?1288944902 ), doing passive aggressive or hostile pranks (in the past), self medicating with natural remedies (in the past), drinking large amounts of caffeinated beverages (in the past), overstating my important/thinking I could "change the world", unable to concentrate on tasks but becoming obssessed with something unimportant. Right now I am to the point where I can spot this and catch it before it gets worse. Can you? What happens with you? Can you stop it? And could you learn?
Avatar n tn In too-high doses, psychosis can occur. I've seen this reaction in one of my dogs who was taking Reglan for nausea related to kidney failure. I found one study online that was done several years ago that noted severe side effects in some people and dogs who took Reglan regularly for several months or at high doses. For the most part, it's a safe and effective medication. It's just not the most effective medication for opiate-induced nausea.
564735 tn?1263947126 We are going to try Carboplatin and etoposide(sp?) combination for my next chemo in three weeks. I lost 9 lbs in one week and was on two different naseau meds through the weekend. I no longer need naseau meds so I think I am ready to start taking magnesium pills. I am so grateful my sister had come out to stay with me for my last chemo. My oncologist was very surprised I had such a hard time since I had no problems with my last chemo drug combination.
Avatar f tn My jack russell terrier was in acute kidney failure last month and is now in chronic. Her blood work, off the charts in some areas, has normalised but her urine showed high protein and she has high blood pressure; she is taking enalapril for both of these. She is on Hills KD and has shown improvement in weight gain, appetite, zest for life, her coat looks fantastic. But I can't seem to control her vomiting for more than a few days.
Avatar f tn Helpful supplements you might consider include pure organic salmon oil (rich in omega-3 fatty acids), rhemania-8, CoQ10 - these can be given in rotation, so salmon oil (with a Vitamin E canine capsule, as salmon oil depletes this vitamin in the canine body) on day one, then rehamania-8 on day 2; then CoQ10 day three. These help boost the kidneys, improve the immune system and reduce inflammation. All quite helpful.
Avatar f tn Take vitamin b6 in the morning and at night if that diesnt work go ask your doctor about zofran
Avatar f tn Zofran? That is a pretty strong med. I have heard of it being used in dogs going through Chemo but I would not use that without consulting a Vet first. Have you tried Dramamine or Ginger? What breed and size dog is this? How old? You could try a ginger capsule in something like lunch meat, cheese or pill pocket. I have had success using Ginger Snap cookies about 30 mins before leaving and take some along with me.

724836 tn?1230952577 Just wanted to check and see if anyone was having morning, afternoon and evening sickness??? I have a 2 year old and was only sick in the morning (extreme nausea), now with baby #2 I started getting sick at 3 weeks.....blah....
18226532 tn?1463520489 I've seen that play out right before my eyes with my own dogs. With 2 other dogs in our pack, we had to keep a close eye on things and had to intervene a few times. It's a hard thing to see amongst formerly bonded pack members, but you can't take it personally. Definitely check out the Chronic Kidney Failure group. Tony has a ton of great advice based on solid research that can help maintain what kidney function remains.
Avatar f tn I've been on birth control for about 6 months. No problems. This second week in January I ate a few hot dogs, felt nauseous didn't vomit even though I wanted to to get it over with but the feeling went away. So I was fine, then after I worked out the next day and drank milk felt nauseous didn't vomit. Do days later passed and something triggered, like clicked in my head automatically saying if I eat I WILL throw up.
Avatar f tn Although I have to admit I felt a little better for about an hour after. I think it was the combo of the bitterness of the zofran in my mouth (I didn't drink anything after taking it; it dissolves in your mouth) and then I brushed my teeth that put me over the edge. Trying to stay positive, that this means things are going good, but I'm counting down the weeks until that second trimester!
Avatar n tn You'll want to put him on a diet as low as possible in phosphorus - that stuff is deadly in dogs with kidney failure. Calcium is a phosphorus binder and remove it fromthe body. A plain old Tums tablet once or twice a day (depending on how badly your dog is doing) will help a great deal. Add some pepcid or zantac, but keep a close eye out for loss of appetite.
Avatar n tn who knows The nausea was so bad I had to be rehydrated 3 times in the ER. Ginger root steeped in hot water really helped. Today I get very nauseous with migraines and drink ginger tea - and just recently found a flavored water - peppermint water that helped with the last bout.
1417732 tn?1310125483 ) as for smells, a few drops of lemon essential oils on a hankie for you to sniff if you can not get away from smells, ie your dogs in the same room.
7157455 tn?1393307449 And as for doing what he loves, he loves having his dogs around he likes taking them in and caring for them but even then his girlfriend has to take over because he cant do it for very long, he likes to tinker with things but has had three cars salvaged because he couldnt focus on them anymore he always ended up doing other things.

4652753 tn?1364585546 I have only completed three weeks (tomorrow) on triple therapy and today I feel so bad it is hard to keep in mind why I am doing this. Still have awful rash, am so sick to my stomach I am gagging on water. Have a head ache, hair burns, ears hurt, face burns, butt burns, so tired I can't think straight. I am trying not to whine but if it is only going to get worse can't imagine how this is all going to feel at six weeks.
Avatar m tn more than I thought it would. God bless the people that can work out swim and walk their dogs I miss all that can't wait to do it again soon I hope. But I did get some good news today and I thank God for that!!!!!
Avatar n tn It's difficult to diagnoise addison's because often by the time owner's get the dogs in to the vets it's too late. Is your dog lethargic? (more than normal i mean) because that combined with vomitting are what happened to my dog. Just a thought.
Avatar n tn One of my worst attacks ever was after eating Thai Lettuce Wraps, they literally sat in my stomach marinating in juices fermenting all night. I woke up in the morning and threw them up. I cannot express how disgusting it was. I can recall the smell/taste even now, it is seared in my memory. I wound up in the emergency room that day. I've suffered from regurgitation after meals for as long as I can remember, literally.
Avatar f tn I had lots of blow off days when I was on the Incivek but I always felt better after I walked my dogs or did the stairmaster or even worked in the yard.
Avatar f tn It's the toxins in the blood and digestive tract that are causing the nausea. Ondasteron (Zofran) is a fairly good anti-emetic for dogs. It should stop any vomiting within 10hrs. However, be aware of the side effects and refer back to your vet if any seem to be starting. There is also a danger of some adverse liver effects with this drug, so I would use Milk Thistle as a supplement to help protect the liver while he is on it. Don't stop using the phosphate binder.
Avatar f tn Sitting outside the other night and a baby dear was calling for its mama she came out of the woods right in front of me then back in and the baby was quiet. Tons of squirrels here that sit on my porch waiting for my husband to feed them he has been doing that all winter so now they expect it. A wild turkey came up to my patio and I freaked out but I feel bad there were 10 of them this winter now she is alone. Coyote problem here and I live in the city.
