Avatar n tn But, if you have been taking Zocor for your triglycerides, you should have your liver enzymes checked esp. if your right side continues to hurt. If they are elevated from taking the Zocor, your doctor needs to discontinue this medication. I took Zocor for about a year, and it damaged my liver. Read about the side effects from all stain drugs. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Lipitor side effects are listed as 1 in 2200 so it is very rare which has shown Lipitor to be a very safe drug. Just make sure that you are aware of the possible side effects and report them to your doctor so he can help weigh the benefits to the risk. Also, there may be other treatment options as well. Typically, I have my blood work done every 6 months to make sure everything is fine, which it always has been for the past several years.
Avatar m tn Hi, If you check the PDr (physician's desk reference) or any literature on statins -- you will find that part of the spectrum of side effects is liver damage, hepatic failure and death. So, please don't buy into any information to the contrary, i.e. that it can now aid in the treatment of the very organ that it is widely known to destroy. Good luck and God bless.
Avatar m tn If you do not want to suffer a heart attack or stroke, you need to take the Plavix and aspirin. Lipitor is a cholesterol medication that have proven studies showing reducing cholesterol and reducing some cholesterol buildup already there. The medications are your life line and you need to take them as prescribed by your doctor. Are you having current side effects from the medications?
Avatar f tn Thank you for your assessment is ischemic damage reflected on my brain scan. I have read the side effects of zocor because I am already experiencing several side effects from Lamictal. Are there any natural medications I could use as an alternative? I have low blood pressure and my cholesterol levels are slightly over the normal range.
Avatar n tn The popping of capillaries could be due to high blood pressure. It could be the side effects of your blood pressure medications. Zocor too could cause this. Other than this it could be due to clotting disorders, low platelet count, fragile spider veins, deep vein thrombus, deficiency of Vitamin B12, folic acid, or Vit K, a liver disease or certain cancers. It could also be due to pressure urticaria. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar n tn Cough is not a side effect of this medication but you are way over the maximum dosage and need to address "why". Good luck.
Avatar n tn For two years I took Zocor for the purpose of lowering my Cholesterol. When I complained to my doctor about my body aching all over she suggested I discontinue using the Zocor for several weeks. As time passed I realized a lessening of body aches so I decided not to go back on the Zocor. It has now been 5 months since I have taken Zocor. Meanwhile, I have been losing weight (about 5 pounds) without changing my diet. I realized that my pants were baggy in the thighs and seat.
Avatar f tn I was reading up on trials of Lipitor combined with Copaxone in low doses for MS: http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=60531 http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/527808 I could not really determine the results. However on looking on the other side many people taking statin drugs complained of muscle weakness, dizziness, balance, memory and numbness and tingling problems.
Avatar n tn I was on medication in and out as I develop side effects to the statin drugs. I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs.
Avatar m tn however, it is worth it if you have side effects. My side effects range from crawly skin to coughs to aching muscles. Hope this helps.
Avatar m tn I could not find his doctor today as its a govt hospital. My dad is very sure its the medication thats giving him side effects.
Avatar n tn As for the weakness in the legs, if your husband is on any cholesterol medication or blood pressure medicine, I would suggest you notify the doctor right away as this can be a serious side effect of both types of medications. I was on a cholesterol medication and had I had to stop taking me, because of the side effects. If left unchecked it could lead to serious complications.
Avatar f tn My mother couldn't take statin drugs either. She had many of the side effects that your husband is experiencing. Is your hubby's cholesterol due to hereditary reasons or diet? Hard as it is to make dietary and lifestyle changes, that may be the better way to go instead of taking the medication. Either way, he needs to talk to his doctor to rule out something else other than the meds. No doubt your husband is a lot like mine: it takes a bomb to get him in to see a doctor.
