Zocor liver damage

Common Questions and Answers about Zocor liver damage

zocor

Avatar n tn Its good that he took you off of the Zocor, as statins have also been linked to liver damage (which, I am sure, is why he took you off of it). I would guess that you are going to find that your enzymes start trending downward after being off the Augmentin and Zocor. I would suspect that the combination of drugs (which are known to be potentially harmful to the liver) could have caused the elevation of your AST...but that is just my guess.
Avatar f tn I was in the hospital with jaundice the Dr took me off zocor I'm also on klonopin I'm getting better but stll itch could the klonopin be causing it. I've never was told to stop taking klonopin.
Avatar m tn Vasotec is an ACE inhibitor and can have a bearing on the liver functionality. ALT is an emyzme made by the liver. When the liver is damaged or dying ALT leaks into the blood stream.

Avatar f tn There is also a focus of deep white matter in the posterior left frontal region. My primary care physician told me there is damage and narrowing of the arteries; prescribed Zocor, diet, exercise and blood tests. I am 62-years old, a nonsmoker or drinker. I do take Lamictal/Klonopin for bipolar 2. My mother died of a stroke at age 69 (smoker). My maternal grandmother also had a stroke. I am very concerned.
1094370 tn?1317134825 Diseases that Cause Elevated Liver Enzymes in the Blood The most common diseases causing abnormally elevated ALT and AST are acute viral hepatitis, such as hepatitis A or B, chronic viral hepatitis, such hepatitis B or C, cirrhosis of the liver (scarring of the liver due to long standing inflammation of the liver), liver damage from alcohol abuse or alcoholic fatty liver, hemochromatosis (a genetic condition causing long standing liver damage due to iron build up in the liver), and diminished
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
Avatar n tn For two years I took Zocor for the purpose of lowering my Cholesterol. When I complained to my doctor about my body aching all over she suggested I discontinue using the Zocor for several weeks. As time passed I realized a lessening of body aches so I decided not to go back on the Zocor. It has now been 5 months since I have taken Zocor. Meanwhile, I have been losing weight (about 5 pounds) without changing my diet. I realized that my pants were baggy in the thighs and seat.
Avatar n tn The LDH test is one of the liver function tests. All drugs are metabolized by the liver and some are harder on the liver than others. I'd recommend discussing this with your doctor, but it sounds like he's probably testing for that rather than anything else. I don't know about tamoxifen specifically causing liver damage, but I think your doctor needs to know if there's any problem prior to starting it.
Avatar f tn Has anyone read how horrific the side effects really are to some of these statins and realized that either they or their loved ones had these very symtoms and becames seriously ill to the point that they ended up in ICU not knowing who they were, where they were, in so much pain they could not bear to be touched and had regressed to near infancy before anyone figured out that it was zocor or lipitor or another statin they were on that was causing these bizarre illnessess ?
Avatar f tn You bring up something I knew nothing about. I am on Zocor for borderline high cholesterol. My overal cholesterol level is only 106 now, down from 199. My PCP said yesterday that ones cholesterol can't be "too low." I totally disagree with her and told her so. My adoptive father had cholesterol levels in the high 300's, in spite of living on a diet of what he called "leaves and twigs.
428155 tn?1203688894 My doctor wants me to start Simvastatin - Zocor - to lower my cholesterol. I have very high blood pressure. After reading all the side-effects of statins, I am afraid to start using this drug. All the forums I have read about this are filled with people warning others away from statins because of the terrible side effects. I cannot find any forums where people actually say they were helped by statin drugs and did not have bad side-effects. Can anybody help?

Avatar f tn Hello, Statins are known to have the adverse effect of liver enzyme elevation, which is generally asymptomatic. Severe liver damage as a result of statin is virtually unknown. The current clinical practice is to discontinue statin when the liver enzymes have increased to more than three times the upper limit of normal. Although zetia on its own does not generally cause liver enzyme abnormalities, it might potentiate the enzyme abnormalities, when coadministered with a statin.
Avatar f tn d had a heart attack but no heart damage. I asked him how I could have no heart damage when my troponin was elevated to 4.5. He said that the heart had released troponin because the affected artery was dying. He also said that he had to put me on Plavix and Zocor (Simvastatin) for a year so that the small artery wouldn't die too quickly because that could result in another heart attack. He did say that new arteries were already growing to replace the dying ones.

Avatar m tn The recommended dose of paracetamol for a single adult is two standard 500 mg tablets. Researches have reported that the threshold for liver damage to start from a single paracetamol overdose is 15 gms (30 tablets). However liver damage could start to occur at a single overdose of 24 standard tablets or 150 mg/kg body weight, (whichever is the smaller).
