Common Questions and Answers about Zocor elevated liver enzymes

zocor

Avatar m tn About 1% of patients who took ZOCOR in clinical trials developed elevated levels of some liver enzymes. Patients who had these increases usually had no symptoms. Elevated liver enzymes usually returned to normal levels when therapy with ZOCOR was stopped. In the ZOCOR Survival Study, the number of patients with more than one liver enzyme level elevation to greater than 3 times the normal upper limit was no different between the ZOCOR and placebo groups.

428155 tn?1203688894 Keep an eye on your liver enzymes and get them checked regularly. One of my liver enzymes became elevated a couple of years after going on Lescol to lower my cholesterol. I went off Lescol after losing weight, but my liver enzyme stayed elevated, and it still is. Doctor isn't too worried about it, and I feel okay.
Avatar m tn Elevated liver enzymes is one of the potential side effects of Zocor (simvastatin). I started TX in Nov. 08, too, finished early and still have bone marrow suppression (low platelets) from the interferon. If it was me, I'd look for a different statin or a different way to control cholesterol and really exercise some patience about the platelets.
Avatar f tn Yes, thank you. Your response leads me to feel that you believe the elevation in his liver enzymes is not totally due to his drug therapy as you say, "I suspect they may not be completely normal." Can you explain why you say that? Thank you again.
Avatar m tn I mean, your liver enzymes are elevated, but other things can do that. I once got terribly elevated liver enzymes because the doctor put me on zocor, a statin medication.Turned out that unbeknownst to me I was terribly allergic to statins and they immediately started to break my liver down. And my liver enzymes went way up. So see if you have any other test results specifically addressing the hcv.hcb tests and then post those, Good Luck.
Avatar n tn Its good that he took you off of the Zocor, as statins have also been linked to liver damage (which, I am sure, is why he took you off of it). I would guess that you are going to find that your enzymes start trending downward after being off the Augmentin and Zocor. I would suspect that the combination of drugs (which are known to be potentially harmful to the liver) could have caused the elevation of your AST...but that is just my guess.
Avatar n tn Elevated Liver Enzymes can be the result of damaging liver disease, acute or prolonged use of medications or alcohol, or harmful exposure to a wide variety of environmental toxins (many of which you are probably exposed to every day). Livergenex is your safe, natural choice for lowering elevated liver enzymes and putting you on the path to a healthier more energetic life. Elevated liver enzymes indicate inflammation or damage to cells in your liver.
Avatar n tn Are the following liver enzyme numbers considered slightly elevated or very elevated?
Avatar f tn Hi Everyone, Just talked to my Dr. and he said my Liver enzymes are elevated again but not as high.I'm hoping someone can explain this to me.The last test was by my Rheumatologist and she took me off of Methotrexate and now 4 months later it comes back AST-51H ALT-83H and also TOTAL CHOLESTEROL 245H,LDL 132H,HDL 101, TRIG.60 so what does all this mean?I'm also having alot of muscle pain for the last 2 months.
Avatar n tn I know this because my sister to is over weight and suffers from elevated liver enzymes. She went on a strict diet and it helped her condition and to loose weight. Her liver enzymes at times were very high (over 300). She was later diagnosed with insulin resistance.
950978 tn?1246129559 I was diagnosed in having a fatty liver. I take Zocor 40mg and Zetia 10mg. My ALT level is 120 and AST is 52. My question is should I control how much I drink or not drink at all?
Avatar f tn But it must be emphasized that higher-than-normal levels of these liver enzymes should not be automatically equated with liver disease. They may mean liver problems or they may not. The interpretation of elevated AST and ALT levels depends upon the whole clinical picture and so it is best done by doctors experienced in evaluating liver disease. The precise levels of these enzymes do not correlate well with the extent of liver damage or the prognosis (outlook).
Avatar n tn Ok.. elevated live enzymes can mean many different things. Most of the time, it means something is wrong with your liver. It can be caused by alcohol, if you drink too much. It can be caused by medicines, but your doctor should know what meds you're on. And also can be cause by Hepatitis, viral or autoimmune. Keep in mind that when you break "Hepatitis" down to it's root words, it means inflammation (itis) of the liver (hepat).
Avatar n tn After losing about 25 pounds and trying to live a more healthy lifestyle a routine blood test showed elevated enzymes and 4 weeks later elevated more to 4 times the normal ranges. When my family doctor discusses this with me he refers to my condition as "having the Hepatitis C antibody". I had a blood transfusion in 1970 following childbirth. Should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn Elevated liver enzymes as a result of statin use does not necessarily mean there is liver damage. Stopping the drug frequently results in normalization of liver enzymes. And occasionally changing to a different statin solves the problem of elevated liver enzymes while maintaining an improved cholesterol level.
Avatar f tn What happened regarding your elevated liver enzymes? Curious because I have MS and recently liver enzymes were very elevated Thank you.

Avatar m tn Im a 17 year old natural bodybuilder, and at my latest blood tests i had an elevated amount of liver enzymes such as GGT, ALT, AST and all sorts of enzymes. By seaching the web i found out that this may be realted to my weight lifting, as intense weight lifting can cause elevated liver enzymes for up to 168 hours after your training. My doc sent me to do some ultrasound tests, they were completly fine, but he now suggests doing a biopsy.
