Zocor and muscle pain

Common Questions and Answers about Zocor and muscle pain

zocor

Avatar n tn If you are taking any statins, niacin, or fibrate medications to lower cholesterol and you get symptoms of muscle weakness or pain you need to 1. stop taking them and 2. go to your doctor to see if the medication is truly the cause of your problem, or if its something more serious. However, it is also important to note that as people age, they naturally loose muscle mass even with regular exercise. Only a doctor can determine what is causing the problem!
Avatar m tn Vytorin is a combination, I believe, of Zocor and Zetia. Zocor should help with the cholesterol already there. If not, Lipitor has studies showing that Lipitor at 40mg can help reduce cholesterol on heart valves and in arteries. If it reduces cholesterol there, it may reduce cholesterol on the heart muscle. Cholesterol builds in the arteries, valves and muscle of the heart. In order for cholesterol to stick, there has to be a sticking spot.
Avatar f tn I don't know about ALS, but after taking Statins for many years with exactly the same problems your husband had. When the problems first occurred, they changed the medication to a different Statin until it happened again or even something else like kidney failure - it doesn't matter what Statin it is, they all cause the same problems - at least they do in my case. When I had severe kidney pain that required for me to go the E.R.
Avatar f tn Has anyone read how horrific the side effects really are to some of these statins and realized that either they or their loved ones had these very symtoms and becames seriously ill to the point that they ended up in ICU not knowing who they were, where they were, in so much pain they could not bear to be touched and had regressed to near infancy before anyone figured out that it was zocor or lipitor or another statin they were on that was causing these bizarre illnessess ?
Avatar n tn There are a lot of heart medication and antidepressants that cause hair loss. Vitamin B and potassium increases hair growth, but you will need to talk to your doctor first before trying anything over the counter.
Avatar n tn If they are elevated from taking the Zocor, your doctor needs to discontinue this medication. I took Zocor for about a year, and it damaged my liver. Read about the side effects from all stain drugs. Good luck.
Avatar f tn There are a lot of things that could cause the abdominal pain, jaw pain, and tingling feeling and they are not listed as side effects, but they could be related. I googled Simvastatin and found that it is a cholesterol medication, Zocor (one of the statins). When I clicked on the link it immediately brought up a safety warning that said on certain high doses there is an increased risk of muscle injury.
Avatar n tn Recently i have developed a cough, which I can deal with but when I cough I get pain shooting though my head. It takes a few minutes to go away and then things are find. Should I be worried.
428155 tn?1203688894 My cholesterol and blood pressure dropped into the normal range and I got off the Lescol and BP meds. Have kept up the same way of eating and have maintained my weight loss with little effor. Might want to try it.
Avatar f tn //cholesterol.emedtv.com/zocor/zocor-and-liver-problems.html _________________________________________________________ It may be the combination of meds...(Zocor&Suboxone)...I couldn't find any info on effexor xr and elevated liver enzymes. Hope you get it figured out.
Avatar n tn I have been on Lipitor for about 8 years and started having leg pain and many muscle aches. Dr wanted an ultrasound for blood clots since I recently had surgery. Thank goodness there was no blood clots. SO I asked my dr if she thought it could be the lipitor. She never even thought about it. So she agreed and and I went off of Lipitor for 2 weeks and the pain almost stopped.
Avatar m tn In unusual cases this can case rapid and severe damage to the muscles, a condition called rhabdomyolysis which is where the muscle tissue actually dissolves (as is always mentioned in the statin ads.) As the levels fall you can suffer muscle pain and/or cramping. If the levels fall to less than 60% of the norm it can cause death in lab animals. Most doctors who also practice complementary and alternative medicine recommend supplementing with CoQ10.
Avatar n tn t find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
Avatar f tn they gave her a cat scan blood and urine tests and came to the conclusion that she was allergic to the zocor. the doctor took her off it and put her on a muscle relaxer called robaxin. she went home. the next day we went out for my birthday and she was the same way. we went back to the hospital and she was admitted to the psych floor. my question is what could cause her to develoup hallucinations all of a sudden?
Avatar f tn Remember that these drugs are often associated with side-effects including nausea, headaches, dizziness, sleep disturbances, sexual dysfunction, fatigue, shortness of breath, memory loss, liver problems, muscle weakness, muscle pain, peripheral neuropathy and cardiomyopathy due to a depletion of Coenzyme Q10.
Avatar n tn You need to speak with your doctor for clarification. Zocor and Crestor are both used to reduce LDL cholesterol and triglycercides not raise HDL levels. Also ask your doctor for an A1c [hemoglobin A1c] test to see how well you are controlling your glucose levels and whether your lifestyle has made you a candidate for diabetes.
Avatar m tn just this constant feeling of drowsiness.
Avatar n tn The lipitor caused my severe muscle pains and aches and raised my CPK levels, to the point I would be in tears by the time I left work each day. Doctor was able to convince the insurance company to, once again, cover the Zocor. My lipids, triglycerides, and over-all cholesterol levels remained abnormal for years, even with proper diet, exercise, and statins. Finally found a great doctor who decided to try me on dual meds, that being Zocor, still at 60 mg daily, and 2000 mg niaspan.
Avatar f tn I stopped the lipitor 3 days ago and the pain in my legs has stopped and feet are some better. I go to the dr. soon so I will tell her. I have stopped the lipitor before for a few days and gotten back to normal.
Avatar f tn Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor: -"Zocor Users Not Warned of Risks: The FDA's June 2011 safety alert is the most serious of many warnings regarding Zocor and associated risks of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Zocor manufacturer Merck & Co.
Avatar n tn I was on Lipitor, then on Pravachol and lastly on Crestor. None of them had problems loweting the Choesterol levels, but muscle and joint pain even with Vit D and Co Q10 as prescribed my physician. However, I came off crestor yesterday as I started feeling Dizzy. I am normally a "healthy", active energetic person. Now my doc thinks we should try Zetia which is in a different family of drugs. Has anyone experienced difficulties with this? Any thoughts?
10996785 tn?1432812977 Because cholesterol is necessary to health and to production of hormones and absorption and movement of fat soluble nutrients cutting it with a drug will have some beneficial consequences if cutting cholesterol is necessary (which it is much less often than the drug is given to people) but also negative consequences. Statins are also highly liver toxic. They should only be taken when absolutely necessary.
Avatar m tn I currently have stents and a ICD implant. I currently take plavix, coreg, zocor and a blood pressure med. The stents and ICD were done about 5-6 yrs ago. At the time my EJ was about 20 and now it is in the low 40's so I am pleased with this but my question is what can I do to get my EJ higher. It has been flat for the last 2 yrs. I do exercise daily and watch my diet.
Avatar m tn In the ZOCOR Survival Study, the number of patients with more than one liver enzyme level elevation to greater than 3 times the normal upper limit was no different between the ZOCOR and placebo groups. Only 8 patients on ZOCOR and 5 on placebo discontinued therapy due to elevated liver enzyme levels. Patients were started on 20 mg of ZOCOR, and one third had their dose raised to 40 mg.
620048 tn?1358018235 I started taking Simvastatin (zocor) maybe a week ago and with all my other symptoms its sometimes difficult, if not impossible, to feel any side efects from drugs. They are the same ones we/I already suffer from. But....For a week now I have just been worse, all my symptoms from MS are magnified it seems. I have been down (on the sofa) more than up lately. Has anyone else had any experience with this drug, I am thinking about stopping it.
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
