Zocor and liver problems

Common Questions and Answers about Zocor and liver problems

zocor

Avatar n tn If they are elevated from taking the Zocor, your doctor needs to discontinue this medication. I took Zocor for about a year, and it damaged my liver. Read about the side effects from all stain drugs. Good luck.
Avatar f tn An Overview As with any medication, there possible side effects with Zocor® (simvastatin), including problems with the liver.
Avatar f tn I was in the hospital with jaundice the Dr took me off zocor I'm also on klonopin I'm getting better but stll itch could the klonopin be causing it. I've never was told to stop taking klonopin.
Avatar f tn Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor: -"Zocor Users Not Warned of Risks: The FDA's June 2011 safety alert is the most serious of many warnings regarding Zocor and associated risks of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Zocor manufacturer Merck & Co.
Avatar n tn Has anyone had problems with statins (in particular Zocor) causing an exacerbation of ocular and nasal allergy symptoms? I started Zocor 6 weeks ago, and after the first week, my eye allergy symptoms (conjunctivitis, scleritis, eyes watering, etc) got much worse. By the end of last week, my eyes were tearing to the point that tears were running down my face most of the day, and my vision was blurring. I had also developed constant sniffles. None of my allergy meds gave any relief.
950978 tn?1246129559 I was diagnosed in having a fatty liver. I take Zocor 40mg and Zetia 10mg. My ALT level is 120 and AST is 52. My question is should I control how much I drink or not drink at all?
Avatar n tn I have been on Lipitor and simvastatin (Zocor) I have no major health problems, eat a good diet, only a few pounds too many, not enough exercise. What can I do to lower my LDL number?
Avatar n tn Augmentin and Zocor have been known to be potentially hepatotoxic. Tylenol is safe, if it is taken as directed (less than 4,000 mg/daily). I imagine that those 3 drugs taken together can increase the potential for damage to the liver. Have you talked with your doctor about possibly substituting another lipid lowering drug...and getting off the Zocor? Are you still taking Augmentin? Remember to be careful about your tylenol intake...
Avatar n tn I've been on Zocor for the last 4 1/2 yrs and never had any sleep problems, but everybody is different. Tell your doctor about it and see what he says/thinks should be done.
Avatar f tn However on looking on the other side many people taking statin drugs complained of muscle weakness, dizziness, balance, memory and numbness and tingling problems. It occurred to me, although I don't think anyone on this site is taking statin drugs, that those side effects sound a lot like the symptoms of MS. It's weird where your searches lea you. Avatar n tn Its good that he took you off of the Zocor, as statins have also been linked to liver damage (which, I am sure, is why he took you off of it). I would guess that you are going to find that your enzymes start trending downward after being off the Augmentin and Zocor. I would suspect that the combination of drugs (which are known to be potentially harmful to the liver) could have caused the elevation of your AST...but that is just my guess.
Avatar f tn Has anyone read how horrific the side effects really are to some of these statins and realized that either they or their loved ones had these very symtoms and becames seriously ill to the point that they ended up in ICU not knowing who they were, where they were, in so much pain they could not bear to be touched and had regressed to near infancy before anyone figured out that it was zocor or lipitor or another statin they were on that was causing these bizarre illnessess ?
428155 tn?1203688894 I rode it out and this went away. My enzymes (Liver or muscle) have not changed since starting it about 5 months ago.
1846163 tn?1331048748 Statins are processed in the liver and so is Incivek. I'm not quite sure if the contrandication is a result of the Incivek elevating the plasma concentration of the statin or the statin lowering exposure and loss of efficacy of the Incivek but it's one or the other.
Avatar m tn He took me off the Vytorin and put me on Zocor with same results. After stopping all meds and getting a colonoscopy and blood tests nothing was found. He now states I have IBS and put me on SSRI Citalopram. HELP! This discussion is related to Possible side effect of Lipitor and Vytorin on Liver / Body.
502219 tn?1311357910 Thank you for the reply The only meds I take are metformin, zocor and novolog all of which I have taken for years. But don't want to blame everything on my LIver.
Avatar m tn • An increase in liver enzymes • Hepatitis, which is an inflammation of the liver that can cause tiredness or a general feeling of illness • Jaundice, or a yellowing of the skin or eyes that can occur due to liver damage • A fatty change in the liver • Cirrhosis • Hepatoma, which is a type of liver cancer. Increases in liver enzymes occur in about 1 percent of people taking simvastatin. The other liver problems mentioned occur in less than 1 percent of people.
Avatar f tn He has now tested positive for kidney failure three years in a row and it has been getting worse, this past year his liver started showing distress. He went off Zocor and magically all his numbers got much better (from stage 3 to stage 2). So they put him on Lipitor. He was only on it for a month before he got what he and the doctors thought was a sines infection.
Avatar n tn The LDH test is one of the liver function tests. All drugs are metabolized by the liver and some are harder on the liver than others. I'd recommend discussing this with your doctor, but it sounds like he's probably testing for that rather than anything else. I don't know about tamoxifen specifically causing liver damage, but I think your doctor needs to know if there's any problem prior to starting it.
Avatar n tn There are a lot of heart medication and antidepressants that cause hair loss. Vitamin B and potassium increases hair growth, but you will need to talk to your doctor first before trying anything over the counter.
Avatar n tn You need to speak with your doctor for clarification. Zocor and Crestor are both used to reduce LDL cholesterol and triglycercides not raise HDL levels. Also ask your doctor for an A1c [hemoglobin A1c] test to see how well you are controlling your glucose levels and whether your lifestyle has made you a candidate for diabetes.
620048 tn?1358018235 I started taking Simvastatin (zocor) maybe a week ago and with all my other symptoms its sometimes difficult, if not impossible, to feel any side efects from drugs. They are the same ones we/I already suffer from. But....For a week now I have just been worse, all my symptoms from MS are magnified it seems. I have been down (on the sofa) more than up lately. Has anyone else had any experience with this drug, I am thinking about stopping it.
446474 tn?1446347682 The agency singled out atorvastatin (Lipitor), rosuvastatin (Crestor), and simvastatin (Zocor) for the new warnings and restated a warning about mixing lovastatin (Mevacor) with HIV and HCV drugs. Today's FDA safety communication follows label changes announced Tuesday that added cautions about new onset diabetes and transient memory problems for users of any of the cholesterol-lowering drugs in the statin class.
Avatar n tn My understanding is that the statins with the greatest LDL reducing effect are Crestor, Lipitor, Zocor, and Pravachol, in that order. I don’t mention Leschol and Mevacor since they appear to be rarely used since recently due to the aforementioned being more powerful. Do we have any available solid data on the effects of the various individual statins other than LDL reduction? For example, do we know which ones raise HDL the most? What about effects on particle size or Lp(a), etc.
Avatar m tn ALT measuremnts are used to dx and treatment of certain lever diseases, but there can be falsely elevated ALT as the result of drugs, alchohol, aspirin and other substances that effect the liver. Vasotec is an ACE inhibitor and can have a bearing on the liver functionality. ALT is an emyzme made by the liver. When the liver is damaged or dying ALT leaks into the blood stream.
Avatar m tn Hello all, I've posted on here on similar topics before, but still trying to work out what is going on? Basically, I've had problems with anxiety on and off, which I think were initially triggered by a medication I was taking. I have also had problems with extreme fatigue and drowsiness. I had started taking benzos last year, and I think a lot of the ongoing residual anxiety was benzo withdrawal.
