Common Questions and Answers about Zocor and aspirin

zocor

Avatar f tn I have also gained 30 pounds since my quintuple CABG back in September 2007. I am also on Zocor, Aspirin and Niaspam. Can Coreg cause any of these symptoms? Also, my HDL has not improved since my surgery. I'm stuck in the high 20's. I feel a lack of motivation and rarely exercise. I'm worried about the HDL. Both of my brothers have low HDL and my father died of a heat attack at age 66.
Avatar f tn I am currently taking 325 mg aspirin, 40 mg of simvastatin, and am trying my best to quit smoking. My question(s): will this regimen reduce the plaque build up and, if so, by how much and how long? Is it possible to reduce without taking something like zocor, just quitting smoking? Rather quit smoking than stay on zocor. How concerned should I be?
1441140 tn?1284085241 As Jon states, that is a baby dose. Familial cholesterol is a proven high risk, I'd take the statin. Also as Jon states, aspirin won't control cholesterol buildup and after taking both statins and 81mg aspirin daily for years (aspirin thins the blood) I've had much worse reaction to aspirin the statin. Aspirin can cause bruising/tearing of the skin. That said, your HDL level is great and should help control the LDL buildup greatly. I'd still take the statin.
Avatar n tn He is currently on zocor (20ml/day) for cholesterol, methotrixate and folic acid for psoriasis, and takes a 81 mg aspirin per day to help thin his blood. He had a pacemaker installed in 1993 (updated in 2002). Any thoughts or suggestions as to what we might explore with the doctors would be helpful. Thank you.

Avatar m tn If you do not want to suffer a heart attack or stroke, you need to take the Plavix and aspirin. Lipitor is a cholesterol medication that have proven studies showing reducing cholesterol and reducing some cholesterol buildup already there. The medications are your life line and you need to take them as prescribed by your doctor. Are you having current side effects from the medications?
Avatar m tn I logged in with a question about plavix, aspirin, and ibuprofen...i wanted to include a little background info. had a heart attack when i was 35, two stents and am now 41. other medications include coreg 25mg 2/day, procardia 60mg 2/day, diovan/hctz 160/25mg, clonidine .2mg 2/day, zocor 40mg, and anxiety meds (imagine that). two weeks ago, my cardiologist added procardia 30mg/as needed for controlling bp in midafternoon. i spend too much time with meds . is there anything i'm missing?
Avatar f tn Has anyone read how horrific the side effects really are to some of these statins and realized that either they or their loved ones had these very symtoms and becames seriously ill to the point that they ended up in ICU not knowing who they were, where they were, in so much pain they could not bear to be touched and had regressed to near infancy before anyone figured out that it was zocor or lipitor or another statin they were on that was causing these bizarre illnessess ?
Avatar n tn There are a lot of heart medication and antidepressants that cause hair loss. Vitamin B and potassium increases hair growth, but you will need to talk to your doctor first before trying anything over the counter.
Avatar n tn If they are elevated from taking the Zocor, your doctor needs to discontinue this medication. I took Zocor for about a year, and it damaged my liver. Read about the side effects from all stain drugs. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I thought that is was due to the medications that he was taking so I called his PCP and ask him he said that he was not sure but the next time he is in the office he will look at it and see. But my question is he takes plavix, aspirin, lisinopril, Zocor, Zoloft, Coreg, lithium, and methadone. I took him off the lithium thinking that was the cause because after doing research sleeping all the time was something major with that drug.
Avatar m tn His medication is Diovan 40mg changed from Zestril 10mg due to non stop cough, Plavix and b.aspririn, zocor and lepressor 25mg per day. I would appreciacte for your advice re whats the next step. I could not find his doctor today as its a govt hospital. My dad is very sure its the medication thats giving him side effects.
Avatar n tn You need to speak with your doctor for clarification. Zocor and Crestor are both used to reduce LDL cholesterol and triglycercides not raise HDL levels. Also ask your doctor for an A1c [hemoglobin A1c] test to see how well you are controlling your glucose levels and whether your lifestyle has made you a candidate for diabetes.
Avatar f tn Vytorin does a remarkable job of reducing your Cholesterol, much better than Zocor (Simvastatin) alone. However, Zetia doesn't seem to add anything to the picture as far as preventing heart disease is concened. But read this about Zocor: -"Zocor Users Not Warned of Risks: The FDA's June 2011 safety alert is the most serious of many warnings regarding Zocor and associated risks of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis. Zocor manufacturer Merck & Co.
Avatar m tn In the ZOCOR Survival Study, the number of patients with more than one liver enzyme level elevation to greater than 3 times the normal upper limit was no different between the ZOCOR and placebo groups. Only 8 patients on ZOCOR and 5 on placebo discontinued therapy due to elevated liver enzyme levels. Patients were started on 20 mg of ZOCOR, and one third had their dose raised to 40 mg.
Avatar n tn My father has been having the same problem of muscle loss while taking zocor. He has been very fit his whole life and was a marathon swimmer - and at 84 years old he still exercises regularly. However, he finds his doctors are very UNsympathetic to his complaint that the cholesterol lowering medications are stripping his muscles away.
315318 tn?1353251800 In addition,to these, I take insulin for diabetes, synthyroid for hypothyroidism, metaprolol and lisinopril for blood pressure, Aspirin ( 320 mg) , and Efient ( 10 mg) as blood thinners to stop any clotting in a new stent on my LAD. Once I started taking the fenofibrate, I suddenly got muscular pain, especially in my thighs and getting up a flight of stairs became difficult. I stopped taking the fenofibrate pill nearly ten days ago and the pain has subsided.
Avatar n tn I've been on Zocor for the last 4 1/2 yrs and never had any sleep problems, but everybody is different. Tell your doctor about it and see what he says/thinks should be done.
Avatar n tn Has anyone had problems with statins (in particular Zocor) causing an exacerbation of ocular and nasal allergy symptoms? I started Zocor 6 weeks ago, and after the first week, my eye allergy symptoms (conjunctivitis, scleritis, eyes watering, etc) got much worse. By the end of last week, my eyes were tearing to the point that tears were running down my face most of the day, and my vision was blurring. I had also developed constant sniffles. None of my allergy meds gave any relief.
Avatar n tn Augmentin and Zocor have been known to be potentially hepatotoxic. Tylenol is safe, if it is taken as directed (less than 4,000 mg/daily). I imagine that those 3 drugs taken together can increase the potential for damage to the liver. Have you talked with your doctor about possibly substituting another lipid lowering drug...and getting off the Zocor? Are you still taking Augmentin? Remember to be careful about your tylenol intake...
Avatar n tn I currently take 150mg of Zocor per day. Recently i have developed a cough, which I can deal with but when I cough I get pain shooting though my head. It takes a few minutes to go away and then things are find. Should I be worried.
Avatar f tn Is it really not possible for chol. to be too low? Do you plan to go off Zocor, and if so, does it have to be tapered?
Avatar m tn I just had an echo done and it will be about a year before I go back to my doctor so I want to go ahead and start making some changes while waiting for my annual exam. I am a 50 year old woman with adult-onset diabetes controlled by diet and exercise. Otherwise, no real problems. I am about 60 pounds overweight. My lab work fine except LDL > 140 and HDL <40. My resting heart rate is usually in upper 50's. My resting blood pressure is usually 110-130/70-80.
952934 tn?1248948744 I am on a lot of medications 1 plavix 2 cardizem 3 lipitor 4 tricor 5 lovaza 6 aspirin 7 gabapentin 8 zocor 9 prevacid 10 spirvia 11 perocet for the nerve pain. Is there a certian medication you were talking about. I have had several conversations with my heart and family doctor about these pains and pressure and it seems to fall on deaf ears. Can this cause me more health problems if it continues and nothing is done about it.
Avatar m tn ALT measuremnts are used to dx and treatment of certain lever diseases, but there can be falsely elevated ALT as the result of drugs, alchohol, aspirin and other substances that effect the liver. Vasotec is an ACE inhibitor and can have a bearing on the liver functionality. ALT is an emyzme made by the liver. When the liver is damaged or dying ALT leaks into the blood stream.
