Hi I am currently three days on Zithromax (treating chlamydia) and I have a light sometimes darker Orange discharge with strings of blood in them when I wipe. The consistency is stretchy and I’m pretty worried. Me and my partner (also taken Zithromax one day oral medicine) haven’t had sex since our treatment (same day), as told to wait seven days. Could it be the antibiotics fighting the infection?

In the absence of symptoms such as abnormal urethral discharge, it is unlikely you have NGU (NSU) or any urethral STD, certainly none that requires treatment. Nonchlamydial NGU is probably harmless for patients and their partners alike, and there is no reliable test for it. In particular, there is no PCR test for NGU.

Azithromycin (Zithromax) is film-coated, but it is ok to dissolve the tablet in water. However, make sure you take the full dose. Also, next time, if you have problem swallowing, you can ask the pharmacist to dispense it as suspension for you. This doc seemed to be incompetent (in my opinion) and said the zithromax would do nothing for the bacterial infections (which I simply stated to show how he seemed unfamiliar with STD treatments). Just to put my mind at ease until I can get tested next month. Should I ask the health dept to test for hep and everything else or do you think everything is still fine. The 1g of zithromax killing the bacterial infections and the viral ones being so rare it's nothing to lose sleep over?

Its seems like you didn't catch anything since you waited a week and hopefully you didn't have symptoms. I got the result when I arrived- and I tested positive. So I went to local doctor in Italy and he prescribed 500mg Zithromax (12 tablets) and said take one a day for 12 days... that seems a lot. I took one yesterday and one today... not sure what to do now! Most sites say 1000mg is enough!

I did not have this before the STD so I know it is not normal for me. Before I took zithromax the mucus strings in my urine were more noticeable. I have not had sex during this time so there is no risk for reinfection. Should I be worried that zithromax will not work because of the mucus in my urine?

For a recent burning sensation in the urethra no discharge, a single 2gm dose is Zithromax is taken. The burning sensation still exist after 1 day of taking the dose.
