Z-packs (azithromycin = Zithromax) have worked quite well for my daughter's strep infections.
Z-pac is usually a five day course of antibiotic that lasts for ten days. I would recommend that if you are not feeling better by day five that you go ahead and call the dr's office and see what they recommend. You definitely want the infection to be gone by the time your antibiotic stops working. Some people take a steroid to help with the inflamation in the throat.

He said one of my tonsils are a little swollen. And that the lymph nodes under my jaw are slightly enlarged, but not much. I told the doctor its been 2 months but he does not seem worried.
Week 8: I became obsessed with my lymph nodes and started pressing them under my chin. Now one feels inflamed.

I would like to understand from other users, what is a normal response time for a strep sore throat to heal. Had a progressively worsening sore throat for 3 days, rapid test positive for strep. Started Zithromax 500mg per day for 5 days due to penicillin allergy. Now starting my 3rd day of treatment with no change in pain status. Have gargled every few hours with salt or apple cider vinegar; no relief. Should I become worried?
I've had strep before... believe me, if you had it, you wouldn't question if it were strep =) Strep usually gives you the white spots, so while it MAY be that, it's probably not. I suspect a lingering illness based on you being a smoker and recently having a sinus infection. Mucus can drip from your sinuses to your throat and cause all sorts of fun inflammation, and smoking would just irritate your throat further.
I had a bad sore throat about 9 days ago and the doctor prescribed zithromax to treat it (not strep-throat). So I began taking the antibiotics. On day 3 I saw my doctor about the urethra discomfort. I tested negative for chlamydia and he diagnosed me with NGU. So on day four, I took 2 doses of 500mg of Zithromax within ~8 hours apart. However, he prescribed taking 1g in 1 dose. It is about 30 hours after taking the first 500mg and I still have slight discomfort.
Hi, I'm really worried about an STD like herpies. Though I do have some very small unnoticeable bumps on my upper and lower lips and a bit on the upper part of my chin. I noticed them because they itched a little. I asked my boyfriend if there was something he wasn't telling me, and he answered that he doesn't have anything. Also My throat hurts a little bit, and my lower back occasionally.
He doesnt get Strep or Tonsilitis. Because he is allergic to Penicillan and Zithromax isnt very effective for any infection he gets (including ear or respiratory which he very rarely gets) the doc usually gives him Omnicef which works but wreaks havoc on his tummy. (unfortunately he cant tolerate Ceftbutin or Cefzil at all, which causes him to vomit) I dont understand why he keeps getting these infections.

However ive read that adenoviruses cause 2-3 pc and herpes simplex similar. Im currently concerned itone of these which antibios dont treat.
She took me off amox ond put me on zithromax for 3 days 1x per day 500mg. After 3 days my throat was still sore so I continued the rest of the amoxicillin for 5 days. 11 days after the encounter I had a hiv rlna test which was negative. 19 days after the encounter I saw my primary care dr. because my throat was still sore. I explained everything to him and he gave me a shot of rosifrin and doxycycline 2x a day for 7 days. Im on day 3 now.
Hello, a few times a year, I get swollen lymph glands under the jaw, and at the same time a sore throat and a high fever. My doctor prescribed me Zithromax and I was told to take it every time I have the same symptoms (500mg dose daily for three days).
I have the same symptoms now and it is very painful, however I did have unprotected sex three days ago with someone who has apparently had unprotected sex themselves many times and never been tested.
Hi and sorry you are ill. Do you still have the sore throat? Do you have a high fever? Usually, with a strep throat you don't have a cough or other symptoms. So this sounds like a virus rather than a strep throat. So, when you went it to the doctor what were your symptoms to start with? If you only had pus in the throat and a sore throat with a fever you had strep throat. Then if they did a strep test and it was positive the antibiotics didn't help the sore throat?
My tongue is a solid white ( but light in a way), when I drink it feels like there is a dry spot in the back of my throat. I am drinking lots of fluids, chammolie tea, vitamins. I believe this is the Strep-C again coming back but I do not know what to do. I have gotten tested at a clinic for STD's and it has all come back as negative.
What can I do? I work out very often I am monogamous and not promiscuous, I hate being sick and am somewhat of a work-a-holic.
Almost exactly a month ago, I had unprotected oral with a girl I met (one night stand). We both performed on each other, followed by protected vaginal sex. i have heard that overdosing on antibiotics will weaken your immune system. will those dosage of zithromax be enough to supress my immune system that it will delay the production of antibodies? i also take daily multi vitamins and exercise suplements like protein shake, zinc and l-arginine. will those have any affect on hiv tetsing?
2.does ars usually appear after 7 weeks? and does my symptoms sound like ars? there is no fever.

d like to start saying I had Strep Throat pretty bad about 2 weeks ago, and then ALL of these issues came up RIGHT after the strep throat was treated. I used Zithromax 250mg for 5 days to treat the strep throat and it went away. Then all h*ll broke loose!!! I have been constipated for days upon days. My stomach is hard, I feel full/bloated with no apetite, and I CANNOT for the LIFE of me get anything to start moving.
Welcome to the STD forum. You undoubtedly mean HSV (herpes simplex virus), not HPV (human papillomavirus).
Oral infections with HSV-2 are quite rare. Most likely your commercial partner doesn't have genital herpes (most CSWs don't have it); and if she did, the odds are small that she was shedding the virus; even then, the mouth and throat are not highly susceptible to HSV-2; and finally your symptoms don't sound like a new HSV oral infection.
I tested negative for gonorrhea/clamydia with the throat swab but I tested positive for group c strep (which is rare). The guy also got a uti within one week of the oral sex.
I was given amoxicillin. The sore throat went away but one tonsil stayed very swollen and is still the same two months later! I am also having nerve pain on the same side and one swollen lymph node that always stays swollen. I have seen my dr numerous times and have tested negative for stds.
So I am taking prednisone a steroid for 13 days, and zithromax a one time dosage today, and robitussin DM for cough and chest congestion.
The doc actually acidentally popped my ear drum today too, it sucked. He was sticking the instrament(sp) that looks inside the ears, and the ear drum was sooooo swollen it popped. So I had blood and puss running out of my ear for a while, until he flushed it out, so im now completely but temporarily deaf in my right ear lol.
He subscribed me 2 x 500mg tablets of Zithromax, which I took straight away. The sore throat disappeared by the end of the day surprisingly. however about 10 days later I started to get this feeling of swelling/pain around my neck area, which lasted nearly a couple of weeks. I can't confirm whether they were swollen lymph nodes; I didn't notice them swelling, they just felt painful/numb. I don't recall any major fevers, though I did sometimes have that feeling of being just sick.
About two days after the first incident I came up with a severe sore throat which kind of felt like strep. I gave it about 3 days and then saw a doctor when it didn't get any better. He did not do a strep test but prescribed zithromax and prednisone for 5 days and that seemed to do the trick and my throat felt much better and everything seemed to be fine.
she also took a swab of my throat to see is it was the streptococcus infection (strep throat) but I did not get told when the results would be back. My tonsils aren't as sore because I've been staying on top of pain relief and I've been taking the right dosage of antibiotic which my ear infection isn't as bad but tonsils haven't seemed to decrease in size. The white puss spots on my tonsils have also gotten whiter, what does this mean?
